  1. Glad we got him cheap. Have some mates who played with him during his Chargers days and apparently he has some serious question marks regarding work ethic and discipline. I certainly hope this is not the case.

  2. Fellow demonlanders hear me out.

Who else likes the idea of James Podsiadly in the red and blue. The J-Pod will provide the experience and bigger body that is most certainly in need down at MFC and we would be getting him for next to nothing.

Why not give him a short-term contract with a promise of a coaching role down the line (I hear he has coaching aspirations). J-Pod can really crash the packs and would give us great structure. He can come in to the side when required and cycle as a ruck/forward with the likes of Hogan, Clarke, Watts, Dawes and Fitzy. Our depth of talls would almost certainly cause match up headaches and depth is particularly crucial considering the unlikelihood of Clarke and Dawes consistently getting on the park.

Furthermore, Pods can switch into the backline if required and give the likes of McDonald a chop out whilst he continues to develop in 2014.

Could do a lot worse than picking up this man. What say you demonland

  3. Could do a lot worse. Would be getting him for close to nothing and possesses exactly the talents we are after in a small crumbing forward who could rotate as an outside midfielder. Under Paul Roos we have ourselves Lewis Jetta mk II.

We should be redrafting Juice before we think about picking up Tambling.

I also wouldn't be against it..... Had a stellar year in the SANFL and always saw something special in the big unit. Would almost certainly provide more than Dawes or could simply come in when Clark goes down considering he is unlikely to play out a whole season. Jessie White mk II anyone :cool::cool:

  4. Both good players, my concern is the effect they would have on the culture we're trying to build, Heath Shaw is on the outer at Collingwood because he has screaming matches with Collingwoods captain on field, and Dustin Martin is considering leaving a club that's well on the rise to chase extra dollars even though they have provided him huge off field support.

would much rather just get Swallow or Sloane and then draft Zak jones who could play the same role of heath Shaw off half back or be a clone of Nathan jones in the middle.

Culture first, team first, success will follow.

The whole culture diatribe really irks me. We've been the nice guys of the AFL for fair to long now. Every football club has players with issues but as long as they get on the park and play good footy I don't see an issue. Stokes was selling and racking coke with the Cats yet has remained a productive member of one of the strongest teams in recent AFL history.

Maybe Dusty and Shaw provide the exact kind of doggedness which this footy club needs.

  5. If he is on the outer I don't see why we shouldn't be in Heath Shaw's ear. Premiership player and could be of serious use down at MFC with his run and carry. Won't be too expensive either.

Adding both Shaw and Martin to our list and we're starting to get some real grunt in the team. Thoughts?

  6. Full name Brendan Fevola Nickname(s) Fev, The Shag, Fevalenko Date of birth 20 January 1981 (age 30) Original team Dandenong Stingrays (TAC Cup) Draft #38, 1998 National Draft, Carlton Height/Weight 191cm / 100kg Position(s) Forward

Who else thinks we have to draft Brendan Fevola? He is exactly what our historically bland football club needs. Brings a bit of media presence and the worst seems behind him.

Proven bag kicker and will take a good defender each week. Chuck him full forward and Mitch Clark CHF! Brb premiership.....

  7. I don't believe your serious.

Are you trying a prehistoric method of motivating him? Or are you serious?

To me Cooky will take a little time after his first season, surely. Maybe needs more time playing on Men. Maybe needs to get physically stronger, but has a great frame, & poss' needs to toughen up?

But from what I saw of him, his footy was good to see. Looked intelligent and effective to my basic thoughts.

Dee-luded I believe you have missed the point of my post. Nice comprehension skills

I am not questioning "Cooky's" abilities. Rather I am asking how do you fit 'Cooky' into our team?

Is he best value to the MFC as a traded player where we can get good compensation from a team who needs a key position player?

  8. Firstly, let it be known that I am very happy with our signing of Mitch Clark. He is exactly what we need in a big bodied key forward.

My queries lie with what such a signing means for young Lucas Cook. By all reports he has not exactly set the world on fire down at Casey. Considering our abundance of talls with the likes of Watts, Clark, Martin and Jamar cycling through the forward line, will Cook get a look in?

Is trading him the best option and one that we may have missed out on? We could have approached a trade with Cook in a Josh Caddy-like manner. Whilst largely unproven at the AFL level his currency would be quite high as he was an U/18 AA CHF and does have some upside for teams looking to rebuild. We could surely offer him up as a trade and target a established midfielder in return.

Given what has been offered to Clark it seems that he will be our long term key forward player and Cook may simply not fit into our team. Making such a courageous trade and landing an established midfielder would cement MFC a finals position imo.

  9. Welcome to Demonland bhima. I must admit I did a double take when I saw that a thread on Michael Newton had been started by 'bhima' - as it wasn't by me.

For the record, my forum name is actually my middle name which is a reference to the epic Indian Poem the Mahabharata, and has nothing to do with Brent Moloney. What perchance is your name in reference to?

It's a combination of my first and last name producing my nickname.

    Quite the coincidence hahah!

  10. well we didnt re-rookie him just for injury. he kicked 11 goals in two weeks. ive been saying we gotta bring in bate or newton, even if they are [censored] because we need structure and someone to kick to. The rol of a forward like those guys is to lead or provide a contest and bring the ball to ground, not to outmarked by defender which can happen with watts, dunn and smaller forwards.

I agree with the idea of newton providing for structure in the side.

Also a reason why I am a believer of Warnock in the backline. A quality tall who consistently performs and his ability to swing forward is brian lake-esque.

  11. Michael Newton's current form in the VFL surely warrants selection for the Demons.

Whilst he has been given numerous opportunities at the senior level, I believe we need to reward form with games and avoid the culture of giving games in order to 'develop' younger players.

The next obvious question is who comes out? Watts? Dunn?

Perhaps giving Watts a run in the reserves will benefit his development, or conversely, dropping Dunn and going with a Newton/Watts combo will take some of the focus and pressure of Watts.

    Thoughts?
