The rules around the umps are ridiculous in the AFL. we need to be getting closer to the mutual respect shown in soccer and rugby. Brushing past the ump and making contact or touching the ump should not even be considered for a suspension. Obviously anything aggressive needs to be stamped out but if we treat umps like protected species they will never get the respect they deserve

it would be travesty if Greene misses against the Cats. But based on the past dumb decisions he will miss 3 plus games over a non incident

There is no way this is a non incident if that behaviour filtered down junior football would be horrendous.

I have seen the great Robbie flower at his best and I truly believe that Clarry is at least  Robbie's equal. They were and are absolute footballing wizards.  And then of course there was another bloke by the name of Ronald Dale Barassi. Legends all three.

I think you have to let Clarry get to 270 games and then make the comparison

I see many people comparing Baily Fritsch to Robbie. I never had the pleasure of watching Robbie play, but I'm struggling to see the similarities based on the highlights posted. They seem to be very different players. Can anyone shed some light?

First time I saw Fritsch play  I thought of Robbie skinny , a good kick and mark, probably hasn’t got the evasive skills of Flower but who has

Robbie was a gentleman on and off the field and always had time for a  chat with a fan ,in fact would chew your ear off in his sports shop if you asked a question about the dees

  4. I think the way to umpire in WA is to undercall both sides which is what the umpires did on Sunday then you don’t get sucked in to home town frees. Sure they missed some to them and to us as well. The call against VDB was a bad call but understandable depending on the angle it may have been seen from.  I thought the umpires did a good job on the weekend and probably will do so in a final series.

  5. Ai thought the umpiring was reasonable last night they got a few calls in the last quarter but with the wind and tide going in Adelaides direction and a feral crowd they held up pretty well .

Stevic is one of the most even handed refs and I'd be happy to see him out there for us more often

Last night the game was let go with lots of iffy calls ignored .

Of course Gusses new mate Razor would be welcome too

  6. I think Petty was a mistake we didn’t respect the opposition enough and paid the price . Frost would seem to be a better option at this time. Still we need to be playing well 5 or 6 weeks out from the finals . The last two years the winner has come home strong . Max was great to watch today

North play two games a year at the G. I reckon that one counted as having home ground advantage.

It's also no one's fault but ours that we sold the Adelaide home game to Alice Springs.

By home ground advantage I mean playing an interstate team in Victoria or Geelong playing at Kardinia Park two Victorian teams at the G or Etihad is 50 50  . Tassie games for north or Hawthorn are often WA teams which is a huge advantage. NT games 50 50 if we play SA or WA teams.

Maybe though it is a case of don’t fix what is not broken.   Changing body build does not always improve.

One R Flower had a similar body type and played a similar type of game

What a great question, because of their very different styles and totally different contexts.

RDB played in, lead and certainly inspired, the greatest and most successful footy team ever whereas Tulip played in and lead, and tried to inspire one of the worst, through no fault of his own.

Had Tulip played in the Smith era he no doubt would have been far more widely recognized as an all time great, a multi premiership player and quite possibly a multiple Brownlow medalist.

Has RDB run around in the Tulip era teams he would probably still have been acclaimed as a great player in a crap team, without the accolades.

So, for me, I will sit on the fence and declare a draw - for skills, Tulip, for grunt, RDB.

Flower undoubtedly more skills Barassi would not accept failure and was quite skilled as well

In the trenches Barassi for mine.

Just to get back on to the thread I feel that Fritsch moves a lot like Robbie and barring injury will become a great player for us

  10. I don't know if this has been mentioned in another thread but the crowd size Richmond vs Collingwood was 72,000  on a lovely Melbourne afternoon with both teams supporters at their feral best, hardly a mention whereas our Anzac eve match on a drizzly night of 77,000 was counted as disappointing.

  11. Coaches will continue to push the rules and rules interpretations will continue to play catch up. Teams are already experimenting with ways to beat the press notice the increase in the number of torps . I'm a bit disappointed that Max seems to have stopped his but I'm sure they will return
