Understatement of the year! There isn't much he can do considering the amount of times the ball is entering the opposition forward 50.
-
I agree, but I'm holding my breath... this is the melbourne footy club
-
I agree with most of what you are saying but we don't know yet how positive Dawes' impact on the field will be, if at all. Clark obviously was a big miss last night and hopefully Dawes will add a fair bit but we'll never know until he gets out there.
-
Magner isn't the saviour, he is a rookie that had a decent debut season, nothing more. I'm looking forward to having him back but he won't change our fortunes.
-
Moloney always dominated against rubbish sides, struggled against good teams. MFC = shite therefore Beamer dominated. It was always on the cards.
-
Out of interest, does anyone know how many uncontested possessions we averaged last year? I'm interested to know the difference.
-
Strauss should definitely come in ahead of Nicholson to play as a small defender. Nicholson's form has been mediocre and shouldn't be rewarded over Strauss who has been dominant in the seconds.
-
Ah no it's not at all. A scoring shot is much different to an inside 50.

Watts back, beard gone and salvation is on its way.

As well as that he hit a couple of packs in the air pretty hard which was surprising to see. -
Absolutely there can be positives, I'm not saying there can't be. But overall, I think a loss as unacceptable and accepting a loss breeds bad attitudes and is detrimental to trying to build a strong, winning culture.
-
Yes I regard that as a failure. Shoot me, I like to win. That hypothetical loss may be a better effort than we are used to but it's still a failure. In regards to expecting to win every game for the rest of the year, obviously I don't but it is still not acceptable. I'd say top sides like Sydney and Hawthorn regard a loss as a failure and don't accept anything less than a win. If we can have the same attitude we will be on the way to being a really good side like those teams. It is a mental game and we have to instill a winning, uncompromising attitude if we are ever going to be successful.
-
Against a far better team. The aim needs to be to win and anything less is a failure. That's why they play, to win.
-
I'm not against Neeld but that is accepting mediocrity and it is just not good enough if we want to be a good football team.
-
Terlich?

Yeah I don't like that rotation thing where players go straight off after a goal, doesn't make a heap of sense in my eyes. -
Do you ever watch Luke Tapscott or Dean Terlich?

More speed and run is needed through the midfield clearly. Kent could add this though I'm not completely sure if he plays much in the middle. Blease needs to get much fitter as all he is good for at the moment is one or two quick dashes and then he is cooked. This years draft/trade period is absolutely critical for our midfield. Gawn was great again. Love how he tries his heart out and seems to think he is a midfielder - Jamar should watch him more closely. We needed a bit more physicality in the center too, to put more pressure on big grunts like Beamer.

Fitzy could be an option to add a marking target inside 50, which we were clearly lacking. Maybe at the expense of McDonald who was terrible and might not be missed so much against Carltons small forward line. Strauss and Viney should come in but not sure who would be omitted. Pedersen maybe?

Maybe time for Watts to go forward again? He did look good and read the ball really well which resulted in a couple of marks. That goal he kicked from the boundary was awesome, really showed his skills. There's definitely a spot there for him without Clark at least. -
Aren't there about 20 threads dedicated to this kind of thing already? Roos - Won't coach. Thompson - I'd say he is pretty happy where he is. Worsfold - See above. Williams - A possibility. Clarkson - Won't go anywhere unless he is sacked. The reality is we have an extremely low chance of luring a premiership coach to our club as we are a basket case and there is next to nothing available in reality.

Good hard running by Byrnes to get there.

Yep, never keeps his feet in the middle and it costs us a fair bit.

I agree, we always seem to miss out on the miracle coaches, players and inspirational leaders (Jimmy aside). But it's likely there are underlying factors and it isn't in fact a miracle.
