He has been an underachiever, and he is too old to turn it around in this current enviroment, and hence he has been shown the door. I am not for one second saying that he is the reason for the club underachieving, but he is a culprit, and they need to be dealt with appropriatley.

For the past few days I have read this forum in disbelief. Collectively over the last few years this forum have two main crtitcisms of MFC: UNDERPERFORMING, AND INCONSISTENT(I agree with both). If there is one player over the past decade that sums up those criticisms it is Travis Johnstone. Yes, he is our most naturally gifted footballer, Yes he has the best footskills on our list. However for as long as I can remember bar one season (2006), TJ has been inconsistent and has underperformed. Furthermore, if i had a buck for the amount of times I have read on this forum "We need to trade one of Bruce, Green, or TJ" i would be a rich man. Yet when it happeneds everybody is fuming. To add to the argument, Travis is now 28, we have put 10 years of work into him, for one good season, and one good semi final. We now get a 1st round draft pick which CAC can now find an other star with. Finally, the message this sends to players like sylvia, and miller(inconsitent, underperformers themselves) is invaluable. If this does not give them a wake up call NOTHING WILL. This sends the message to all our players that you can no longer float through your careers at MFC, but you have to bleed for the club. For the record, it would not suprise me if Travis goes to Brisbane and win the B&F. However, I have no reason to believe that at the rate Travis was going at Melbourne he would have won our B&F next year. He would have continued to "just get by like he has done most his career". Also last year Collingwood found themselves in a similar situation. Personally, if you compare Collingwoods list at the end of last year, to ours at the end of this year it is very similar. At the end of last year Collingwood traded Tarrant who was considered a floater(like Travis had one or two good years, and 5/6 good games a year). He has done nothing special to date. Collingwood made a prelim this year. Collingwood will use the draft picks they recieved to consolidate a great core young list. Hopfully the same thing will occur with us.

I'm not sure if I would do it, but reading on the other thread that Mclean want to leave(which i dont believe he does) got me thinking. Would we trade Mclean for pick 2, and then pick 2, and 4 for judd? I'm unsure. DD

If we some how win this dogfight and get chris judd what will it mean? Positives A superstar at our club Speed in the midfield CHRIS JUDD! It means that trapper will get the 2nd best tag, and chooker the 3rd. WOW. Gun leader. Negatives We may have to give to much It could effect the other players in the club. A player is not bigger than the club. We may have to give the captaincy to him straight away, which could upset possible future, and current captains of the club. e.g Neitz, and Mclean. Here come 2 other points that i forgot to mention 13. If Pavlich is up for trade. He is worth our no.1 pick. He would solve many of our problems. 14. Create a leadership group of Mclean Jones Bate Bell Neitz Jmac and Robbo. Our most passionate players. good mix of experience and youth.

If I was applying for the job these are just some of the things I would suggest. 1. Play davey as a forward pocket 2.only draft KPP and Ruckman, are midfield is fine apart from the need for pace. 3. Pick up one of Kane Tenace, or Shannon Byrnes. One of them will be delisted end of year. And they will give us pace. 4. Play one of Bruce/green as half forwards, and one of Bate/sylvia as midfielders. Bruce and green are classier footballers, and present just as well. Where as Bate, and Sylvia will add extra grunt to our midfield. Imagine playing against a midfield of Jones Mclean Sylvia Bate Moloney in 2 years. I would be scared. 5.If PJ or any other 2nd ruckman wants to get a game learn how to play in the forward pocket We can not affod to have players play 50% of the game. Sorry its not good enough. 6. When comming out of the backline give Wheatley the ball. HE CAN KICK IT BETTER THAN ANY1 ELSE. give it to him!!! 7. Give Craig Cameron a pay rise. He is a star. 8.Dlist one of ward/nathan brown. 9.Make Cam bruce kick the ball 100 time a session, and if he misses one target start again. YOU ARE AN AFL FOOTBALLER. KICK LIKE ONE. 10. Give Whelan, and Rivers personal massages if necessary to make sure they are right for next year. 11. Lots of team bonding session over preseason. Buddy, I am sorry if it came as a personal attack it wasn't meant to be. T.J has a lot of potential, but very rarely reaches it. He is not hard enough at the ball which is fine, but not when we have many other outside players. Having said that i think he would be highly valued on the trade market.

Mate, doesnt incosistent proformances show you that he is mentally soft. I also have heard from reliable sources he is a big drinker and gambler...I honestly hope I am right. He has all the potenitial in the world, but he just does not put in the hard yards IMO. You are entiteled to you opinion.

All 3 of these players are uncontracted, and are not signing contracts until the end of the year. Not for one second am I saying that they will leave there clubs. HOWEVER hypethetically at the end of the year if all 3 were up for trade, who would we target. Personally, I would want Riewoldt. Firstly, even though we could always find room for Judd, i dont think are midfield is going to be our weakness in years to come(Mclean Sylvia Bate Jones Bartram Picky Rettard Mclean with Bruce Green Johnstone). However centre half forward is a massive whole in our team. I would take Riewoldt over Pav only because he is younger, I think he really bleeds for his club, and has a massive work ethic, as well as great leadership qualities. Thoughts? DD

its a SHAW thing, ranked 26th in the Dreamteam comp. This is my team, and it has kept me interested in footy despite melbourne being 0-7. Top ranked Melbourne supported(because i have no melbourne players)....JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON GUYS;) DD
