Watched a bit and Long on Simmonds came up with Schwarz the only one flying the flag. Such a meek response 😞

Yeah, that game drove me crazy.
    It wasn't just Long.
We allowed the resident Essendon thug Wallace run around belting our youngest players in the 1st qtr and did nothing.
We all knew what they'd do as they'd been doing it for 15yrs and our players seemed surprised.
    Insipid response.

I really believe the team will rally on Monday and win this.

Its obviously a last ditch chance for finals.

Goodys back is against the w

All we need do is just bring our best , it will do.

I'd like to some decent physicality against this mob that bullies us and gets away with it all top often.

Both Jake and Kozzie to have a big day out.

I watched the Pies dismantle the Dawks last week.
    They were impressive.
    Real impressive.

Yeah we can win it no doubt.
But everything has to go right.
Need to play 4qtrs, our guns need to fire and take our opportunities.
Choke in front of goal like usual and we're doomed ..... DOOMED I tell ya.

Grinter was a massive thug but universally loved by Melbourne fans.

As you say, every club had at least one in their team back then.

Back then you'd have to fight fire with fire and Grinter was our fire during that era and we loved him for it.
I remember one day out at Waverly and Brereton cleaned up Dean Chiron at the opening bounce.
It was Grinter who had him looking over his shoulder as he was the only player we had that Brereton was intimidated by.

But here's a few biffs and bumps from our choir boys back in the day.

  4. I'll always remember what my sister declared after we went out in straight sets in '23.
"We just didn't kick enough points."
This has been an ongoing issue of ours for years and another saying comes to mind.
"You can't make strawberry jam from pig poo no matter how much sugar you use."
It's not only getting the ball through the big sticks that's a concern it's also the field kicking.
We've obviously got plenty of players who can get the ball.
Just not near enough who can kick the ball.

I'm certain Goodwin knows this which is why the game plan he uses is to just get it inside 50 as often as we can, lock it in for as long as we can and hope we can scramble enough through the big posts from there.

Anyone who doesn't think that goal kicking is a skill that can be improved over time needs to look at Russell Robertson's progression across his career.

His career goal kicking accuracy was 50% early on, lifting slightly to 55% by 2004, although his kicking was pretty poor that last year.

He worked his backside off in the 2005 pre season to improve his technique, and kicked 73.30 that year (71%). He went at above 60% for the remainder of his career as well.

There is really no excuse for current players to not be able identify and fix their issues (technical, mental or otherwise) with all the resources at their disposal.

100% I remember Robbo improving dramatically as a set shot goal kicker during his career.
Early on he was sketchy, later on he was dead eye.

Love to hear what he has to say on the matter.

A major worry was the influence of Wanganeen- Milera in the second half. He had 15 touches in the last quarter alone and looked like he hadn't showered in a year given the space he had to do as he pleased.

Was listening on the radio before the game today and the "Experts" declared if the aints were to win W-M would have to get 30 cause he's their best ball user.
    Goodwin let him get 29.

This team continuely drains the fuccing life out of me on a constant basis.

Then early on today I recieve a friendly reminder from the club that my membership fees are coming out Monday June 2.

You want my money, get a set of coaches to learn how to kick in-between the big white sticks.

    It shouldn't be like this.
    But sadly it is.

I was whining at work during our 0-5 stretch to a melbourne supporting workmate.
He suggested if it made me so miserable I should choose another club.

Told him there was no way in hell I could do that and would prefer to forget about the corrupt AFL and just follow the local club.
Who are getting flogged every week.

Yep, it is now a case of we, the supporters, not trusting the Dees to win. I go to games or turn on the TV and I know that players are going to repeatedly stuff up great transition play by poor skills in kicking for goal.

I hate to admit this, but I just don't trust us to win games. I know we will be competitive in most games, but our kicking cannot be trusted. And I am really sick of it.

I knew todays game would not be any sort of spectacle cause of Lyon and Goodwin but I did expect win tho' close.
I also didn't go prancing into work last monday declaring "We're back baby." cause I'm far too experienced for that.
Then seeing how the Crows dismantled the Swans last night I was very aware last week was just another mirage.

And seeing what Collingwood did to the Dawks I'm now expecting them to tear us limb from limb next week.

This is the exact reason we can't pull crowds to games.
The same reason Melbourne supporters who do show up are reserved early game.
    You just cannot trust them.

A win today and there would've been 70-80k next weekend.
    Now I'll tip 65.
55 of which will be Collingwood.

    Yeah. bring 'em on.

Max doesn't focus on the goals long enough. He looks down with just the odd glance at the sticks and then always misses. Simply needs to lift his head up. Small change.

Reckon it's just plain psychology ATM as it is with a bunch of 'em.
Same with Pickett and his rushed play on kicks.
None are confident they'll kick straight.
Little men in their heads telling them "You'll miss, you'll miss, you'll miss" .... And they do.
