  1. I like a good fight or a moment of brilliance. The bumfights don't do it for me any more.

Coming from a Tae kwon do background , watching counterpunchers like Silva , Jones and even Machida take oponents down using frontkicks to the face and elbows etc is purely and simply Art as far as I'm concerned .

As you said moments of brilliance .

Jones to beat Machida tho' , got a few too many tricks for 'im .

  2. I'd like some thought into a new song .

Ours doesn't do it for me .

There's no " Riding the bumps with a grin" , " Fight and Fight and win " , " The greatest team all " , "the team that never let's you down" etc , etc .

What 'ave we got ' Should old aquaintance be forgot " Pffft .

  3. I'd rather have a kid on the list that had an opinion of himself, over inflated or otherwise, than one who was shy and retiring and lacked confidence.

Knocking the confidence out of a kid can had a detrimental effect on his football career.

I'd like healthy dose of aggression in any new drafts picks also .

A coulple more who like to play on the edge .

Look for white line fever .

  4. Word was that Lyon didn't allow Ball the time to get himself right under Misson.

Lyon seems to realise that injuries are just as much the coaches fault due to his slap on Mark Harvey .

And I like the rest of you hope Misson can rebuild Grimesy.

Have issues with his kicking from defence tho' .

  5. Main event between Rampage and Jones was a good fight, and whilst i was always hoping rampage would land a big bomb to get him back in it, reality was Jones was just way too good for him. too much reach, too much speed, too much agility.......he looked like Anderson Silva at times. He beat up Rampage for 3 rounds then finished him off with a choke, the first time Rampage has ever been finished in the ufc. Love him or hate him, Jones is the real deal.

    Ahem .... told ya's ;)

  6. I would imagine that the recent trend of rising membership figures at the MFC might take a hit in 2012 given the year we have had, promising much and delivering little.

The last few NAB Cup's have been dominated by teams that have gone deep in the home and away finals. That aside.

Melbourne's attitude in recent years has been to give the new kids a taste in the pre-season comp. I posit that this year, we need to give the pre-season comp a serious shake because:

    1) the club needs to generate some positivity amongst the membership base - give cause for marginals and potential newbies reason to sign - it should provide a good early kick to the membership tally early when in the past the game day rallying generally begins after some initial early season success on or after round 1,

    2) the club can definitely do with the (albeit small) financial rewards attached to winning or placing in the NAB Cup,

    3) any silverware is always a good start to the year particularly since our cabinets haven't been opened for a while.

    Thoughts?

Unlike this year they've gotta play like the they're serious about the season anyhoo .

Show us there been work on the kickins , game plans etc .

    Play with some intensity .

  7. I think Freo is on the move!

They seem to have looked at everything thew do, from their Colours to their theme song.

    And Now, the Coaching!

Reportedly even prepared to trade Sandilands for O'Meara.. It sounds like they've decided to do whatever is required to achieve the Success & a Solid Culture. Good luck to them I say.

If Lyon is true to form he'll trade Sandilands for a handful of beans .

I wouldn't want him anywhere near the recruiting dept .

You'd have a side full of mindless roll playing hacks in no time .

Just watch him kill off any flair the Freo players possess .

  8. If my memory serves me right Rhino Richards had his best game for the club and we won the game (i could be wrong about that).

You are quite correct on both counts .

Was the game Richards got his nickname (Rhino) after stomping through a couple of tacklers and sitting Dipper on his arse before slotting 1 of about 3 goals .

Beat the Hawks at Princess Park who were on top at the time .

Is there anyone out there that 'Gets' what I'm talking about??? Does anyone have the courage to stand up and voice their concerns about this 'stuff'?

Yeah , I get what yer on about and we do have far too many wowsers in powerful positions at the club just as we do here online .

  9. Lost all respect for Leigh Matthews when as 16 year old i went to Princess Park to see us play the Hawks and Steve Smith (in a master move from Barass - i think he was coaching) was giving him an absolute bath. The ball 30 metres away, Smith had thumped the ball away from Matthews for the umpteenth time and LM round armed him knocking him out. He had no chance, never saw it coming and had to be carried from the ground.

Couldn't beat him fairly so king hit him. Don't believe the rubbish about the era etc etc. Dog's act pure and simple. Never saw Robbie do anything remotely similar (or Keith Greig, Wilson, Brian Wood, Greg Wells and any number of other top players)

Yeah mate , I saw that aswell from the cheer squad behind the goals while wearing Steven Smiths number on the back of my duffell coat .

I was ropeable at the time but it doesn't take away the fact he was a brilliant 4 time Premeirship player and 4 time Premiership coach .

The man knows all about success .

  10. Thomo would cancel his membership and I'd buy another to make up for it. Might have been an absolute dog as a player, but I'll bet there was a few dogs played for MFC and every other team in those days, as that's the way footy was back then. Frankly, I don't remember him as a player cause I'm 31, but I do remember him as a premiership coach. And that is enough for me. Sign him the F up. He would be the rocket up the khyber pass that our boys need I reckon. As JJC said, he's not the tactical coach, he's the motivator. Get him!

Doubt it will happen but would love it if it did .

Make no mistake Kento , Matthews as a player was awesome .

    From wikipedia

As a player he is the official "Best player of the 20th century", according to the AFL, is a Legend in the AFL Hall of Fame, is on the Hawthorn and AFL Teams of the Centuries, has polled the most Brownlow votes without winning a Brownlow and is one of the most successful AFL coaches of all time.[1] In 2008, Matthews was named second, behind Wayne Carey, as part of Mike Sheahan's list of the top 50 players of all time, published in the book 'The Australian Game of Football', which was released by the AFL to celebrate 150 years of Australian rules football.
  11. Yeah , that 1st West Coast game was the 1 when I was closest to this fella but it was all over after the first 10-15 mins .

Missus told me to stop swearing or get out the back .

After that I was in a dark stupor .

Problem was I thought we were better than we were at the time .

I'm at my worst worst when we are actually playing in games that mean something .

When we're good , showing something and looking at finals etc .

I'm looking forward to riding the dragon again.

When that will be I don't know .
