No where near close to resting players. But, 8-0 means that a slight niggle vs say Adelaide etc might turn into a week injury.

Back 1/3 of the season if you have top 2 locked up then sure.

Good observations G . And I agree with David King.

We're in uncharted waters here as a supporter base. usually  - in my entire lifetime, its been a case of how many games to make the 8.

Now its a paradigm shift for everyone. We need to win only 3 of the next 14, so the 8's a lock.

The key issue now is how many do we need to win for Top 4, then how many for Top 2.?

As hardwick correctlty says (and the great jack Dyer said it first)  Flags are won in September, not April. And that means hitting GF Day at peak . This was also Malcolm Blight's mantra, execpet he used a clock, and likened GF day to 1 minute to Midnight, or peak time. This was demonsrated by the Crows NOT being the best overall team in 97 and 98, but trained to reach peak at GF time.

Goodwin emphasisied the holistic team apporach at his presser on Suunday when discussiing Weideman, by reiterating its a team game and a team approach to player selection and management.

This comment gave me great confidnece in player management this year, especcially as there is good quualaity depth and options, to ensure late season peaking. I'm sure match cttee are on top of this.

Um, the Barassi Ranting Method took Carlton and North Melbourne to 2 Premierships...

A friend of mine played under Barassi at north in the 70's.

He still says now that Barassi would have him wanting to run through a brick wall if necessary for the team success.

  3. This comment probably fits into this selecton thread.

I'm worried about the forward structure after last night, and admittedly only 1 game,

But it looked very different with Brown in, and may have impacted Fritsch's output. Fritsch has been great all year but last night there seemed to be continual rotations, with Brown off a few times. Obviously not because of fatigue, and I wonder if this selection is a work in progress from the coaches, trying to figure out how the pieces fit. I fear losing Fritsch's aerial strength which is a winner for him.

Time will tell next week, on a hopefully dry day.

Brown's impact was his usual forte - straight kicking and high pack marks and on last night only prefer to perservere with him than Weid.

    Sparrow for Harmes.

I'm sorry, but apart from 2-3 good moments in that game, Harmes was doing everything we shouldn't be doing. He just plays like old Melbourne.

We thought this also and said some decison making looked like the bad old days for sure.

    Sparrow in.

    Team win.

They closed down our stars and avenues to goal but we soldiered on.

Kudos to Jordon, Harmes, TMac etc. who all stepped up.

They'll be hard to beat if they get a home final, the Swannies.

A good 8 point win for us in some respects as the swans are going to beat plenty others this year. Just not the dees.

This is my general assessment of what I think of tonight's game and I hope I'm wrong.

First time this year I saw signs last week that a few of our players looked tired and flat. I actually don't think it's the physical aspect, but more mental. Mental in terms of sustaining the momentum we have. Players from successfull clubs have been on record to say that it's very difficult in maintaining that mental grind from week to week. Considering this is all new territory for the Demons, I think we'll drop our guard in the next few weeks.

Teams will now hunt us physically and Sydney are a great side in not only being physical at the contest but grinding games out mentally.

Unfortunately I think tonight will be our first loss of the year and to be honest it's probably not a bad thing to just reset a little. I'd rather a loss tonight then Carlton or Adelaide in the next two weeks.

    I hope I'm wrong.

I suspect you might be right.

Keeping up for 7 weeks straight is hard for the inexperienced in this mindset.

It will/could  show up some weaknesses for fixing now rather than when its too late. The team's not perfect thats for sure. Especially the premiership defenec we had befroe Tomlinson's injury.

Or could just be more of the same and 8 - 0 after the game?

Importantly the Swans will beat many good teams this year in Sydney so rather lose to them than Blues or Pies.

although the Swans handled them last week. What an interesting season!

This is why I'm confident abotu beating the Swans.

Last week the Cats won clearly all over the ground and in the stats except on the scoreboard. Ridiculous I know but in the past 61 games since 2000, teams with these stats have won.

Swans were lucky with some umpire assistance. The Dees are better.

She fits into the same group as hutchy and purple.

    Ambulance chasers.

At least some one like Robbo actually talks about the game and cares. They don’t.
And yes she chases the big stories etc etc

until it comes to Martin and the Tigers.

She gave Dusty and the club heaps a few years ago when he threatened a female diner in Prahran with chopsticks I think it was.

That’s what I took issue with: saying we’ve had the easiest draw thus far. Easy? Yeah, maybe. But surely not easiest.

Exactly.  Daisy Pearce said this morning On SEN she was just " praying for a 3 - 0 start for once"  or at least a start that wasn't behind the 8 ball early.

7 - 0 was beyond her wildest expectetcions.  You don't get to 7 to Nil in any comp just because its easy. Most say there's no easy games at AFL standard.

Saints and GWS are going to beat pleenty this year. Just not the Dees , being ahead in quality fro once

    In Weeds, Sparrow

Out Tomlinson, Melksham (But I'm not confident these will be the changes)

I also dont get the love for Petty, His first two quarters in his last game were heart in the mouth stuff I thought!

Swing Tommy Mac back, Jones played a great game and deserves to stay. Melksham lazy and at times half hearted efforts needs to earn it back in magoos

I felt the same at the time but he showed a bit of courage aftyer 1/2 time.

But looking at his metrics, he is a bit taller than tomlinson albeit several Kgs lighter, so maybe he can play that 3 rd tall support to May and Lever if he's up to it?

If he is, he's the future for sure.

Goodwins gone through much more adversity then Roos did with us. Goodwins had his own challanges and rebuilt the list back up again. Without Goodwin, Oliver, Salem and Petracca are looking at new clubs.

Roos got what he came for and that was the $$. This whole notion of the club wouldn't be here without him is actually laughable.

That's true about Goodwin, but the foundation was laid by Roos and Jackson for whom we should be forever grateful.

Roos got the dollars sure (and he enahncedh is coaching reputation), but the club got what it paid for as well.  Self respect, a level of credibility and the bleeding stopped. Without that Goodwin had nothing to build on. A house built on sand will not last.

In terms of the present, not being inside the tent we will never know just how much an impact on performance we have seen as a result of the master appointments of Williams and Yze. I suspect nothing changes without their skills, strategic and teambuilding influence on Goodwin. The quick 100% turnaround to the selfless, lowering the eyes style of play tendered as eveidence.

The true talent of the list has now been exposed by many.

Success has many parenets, failure is an orphan as they say and kudos to Goodwin for keeping it together in 2019/2020.

If Fritsch is out and Viney missing a few, I’d like to see Weid and Sparrow both come in. The only question then is does Tmac go back or stay forward. If back then I’d like to see Bedford or Kade Chandler be given a run, other wise Petty comes in down back for Tomlinson.

Agree with this, and with Petty coming in. Weid gives us a replacement aerialist for Fritsch which is important as it continues the gameplan of either marking , but at least bringing to ground fro Pickett etc. Tmac stays forward

Not sure Sydney will be too confident given the statistics of their game against the Cats, and got lucky (20m). +1

On the Couch last night quoted a stat that out of 66 games played since data commenced being collected, given the stats from the Cats/Swans game,  a team has never lost from that position - that is until Saturday and the cats lose.

Swans were clearly outplayed everywhere -so lucky is a good descriptor and as they should have lost by heaps.

The other amazing stat was that about Adam Tomlinson

Of the 21 one-on-one contests he participated in this year so far, he won 20 of them.

    Thanks for that

Robbo needs to address the playing group with this. Hopefully he has already done it

The side issue in Robbo's comments on the histroy is that looking at the games in the season collapse he refers to , Robbo did his bit as a very productive forward in those losses and I wonder if he felt others let him down, or maybe he is emphasising that it can't be left to a few - everyone has to stay contributing to the end.

A timely contribution by the great man.

  15. 1 hour ago, Sir Why You Little said:

Yes i am aware of that. But the more games played, the higher the differential must be to keep a high %

Incorrect.  Its all to do with each weeks winning margin and its % relationship to the losers  (the other teams) score in points.

  16. 2 hours ago, dazzledavey36 said:

Can someone explain why we went down in percentage on the ladder??

    Our % is 150%.

Therefore to keep at the level we need to beat a team by at least 50% of their score.

Today we beat roos by 30 points and they scored 73 points , so winning margin was 41% of the roos score, less than 50%, thus the overall % dipped below starting number of 150%.

Had we won by 50% of 73, which is approx 37 points then % would have stayed the same.

So if we bring the same pressure we bought last week to the dogs game we should be able to win. 2 goals was all they kicked in that 2nd half. They absolutely crumbled.

Only saw last half and the tiges played just like demons last week. Could have been wearing red and blue.

Defence set up . Forward pressure. Tigers showed dogs weaknesses and dees should take great confidence we have the personnel and system  to take the points in Round 11.

The only player to have left the club recently who won't be spewing.

    Best of luck to him!

Agreed. A good outcome for him. But given dees forward structure and strategy i think there was no room for him and fritsch.

Mitch was a bit hot and cold but fritsch has become a 4 quarter threat and is more vetsatile.

Weather forecast turning sour. Rain and strong winds possible Sunday afternoon.  Having 3 talls could backfire on us. North will relish it. Havent Sportsbet heard of Bass Strait and Tasmanian weather.

I bet alot of money is going on North this week. Poor weather and sympathetic umps might keep them in the game.

As per other posts, weather is looking Ok on 3 forecast sites including BOM.

20 degrees , slight chance of a shower, cloudy with some sun,, winds 15-20 km/hr in the morning but lightening winds  in afternoon.
