  1. What's the deal with football boots? Clubs have jumper and shorts suppliers but I vaguely recall that perhaps boots are left to the individual player. I know one thing. If I was the licensed Melbourne boot supplier...I'd either (a) be keeping a low profile right now or (b) making a big announcement about working with the club to improve the design and fit of the club's boots to improve foot support.

the outer part of the boot is not as important as the arch and footbed which can be retro fitted into anything.

  2. Terrible news, really hope he can get through this just for himself because he looks like he is his own hardest taskmaster.

I once fell 10m onto concrete and had ~12 hairline fractures in my feet and legs, went to hospital, and as they were not displaced (and around ankle area) the Dr couldn't see anything and said 'not busted' (St Vincents), crawling back into my house was not fun. Next day went to a specialist, who filled me up with some Fukushima salts (and actually found some pretty obvious fractures to my eyes) and had the pleasure of listening to him call up the first Dr and yell at him for 10 minutes. Anyway bones in feet hurt, it's not like a arm or a finger where you can 'deal' with it, it remain annoying for ever. I got fast again, but every time I play a match or whatever, I take three days to move properly again and it's always 5 min's walking to the bathroom in the morning.

I know that's footy but am truly sorry for Jack, I reckon the club should have boots hand made for every player, with custom footbeds if they are not already, it's not enough teaching them how to kick, some of them need remedial work on their running styles to arrest injury rates.

  3. I actually was quite impressed by MM's press conference after the loss, he made allot of sense, we did do some things right and won the game, but their hard ball gets were up there and if we had at any stage not stuck fat to the plan they would have come over the top of us. They couldn't buy a goal but we played well and they were under pressure going for goal. Not that I like MM but he was pretty sensible about it all.

What is very obvious is that MM is now firmly in the sights of the Media, and is the coach they want to 'get' this year. MM is going to be offered up as the necessary sacrifice by the media, regardless of whether it is deserved or not.

I of course love that the plebeian rabble has chosen Carlton to dwell on and not us, my hate for them remains undiminished.

  4. Feeling so much love (some of the less obvious things as well):

    1. Spencer channeling Strawbs aggression - we play so much better with a angry red head in the team.

    2. So glad we didn't get MM.

    3. Beating Carlton, on a par with the Hawks, Essendon, Collingwood.

    4. Not dropping our heads after looking like a shambles in the first quarter, I continue to think Roos is a bargin, am always a little nervous by his comments, thinking yeah/nuh or BS and then we have a practical demonstration that the players really do believe in what he is selling.

    5. Frawley not having a sore neck watching goals go over his head - the coach coming up with a fwd line solution.

    6. Howe vs Walker - Walker sulks going back, Howe does it without cracking the sads, he is really improving with Roo's coaching (did I mention it was a bargin)

    7. Jack Watts - not as good as his other game but still I like this free running version so much more.

    8. Our off season recruiting.

    9. Watching the players sing the song.

    10. Today was Viney's break out game, we always knew he had heart but he belonged today.

  5. I seem to remember when we went well in the reserves, we came good a few years later in the ones, Lovett and others, what Roos was saying about getting the twos right makes so much sense, and it was good to see the goal highlights package from the Windy Hill game. Have to start watching casey more closely.

  6. As I'm in thumb sucking mode when it comes to watching the team at the moment (I still believe in the team, the coach and the path, just it's a long trek), I have basically retreated into watching grainy footage of the late 80's to 90's and some 00's, and there were plenty of times when we were fierce, and as neanderthal as it is, I bloody love it. I think in a just let them know you exist in a way (not permanent damage way) a few blokes like Spencer and maybe Dunn (don't really want him suspended), running through and bruising a few ribs would be a good thing. Everything in the contest and no cheap shots or king hits, but a few in your face wild eye moments would be great.

But as has been said, waiting for ever, would settle for a couple of semi bruising shepherds protecting each other, in fact are shepherds even a stat, would like to track that one. More than inside 50's.

  7. would still like to see one last big interview with him. I think the club and Clark owe the supporters the full story for a bit of closure to a long running saga that to be honest we have been kept mostly in the dark on.

No dis-respect to Mitch, he needs to do what is best for him and his family and at the end of the day Football is just a job for the players and a short term one at that. I wish him all the best in his recovery and photography endeavours, but as an investor to this club, both financially and emotionally I think we all deserve the full story.

With respect and while I'm truly curious (and would love to know the full story myself), No, Mitch has no obligation to discuss his medical condition with anyone and certainly not for public consumption. I am quite sure he is feeling dreadful and talking to the media is pretty much never the answer.

  8. Hmmm, would love to know where the equal opportunity exists in women playing lingerie football... unless of course you believe that the AFL should have the men running around in their jocks only?

Remember the film Slapshot with Paul Newman, where the outrage is when the guy gets his kit off on ice while they are busy pounding each other...

  9. 1914 University

    1998 Fitzroy

2015 Essendon (actually more like semi dead for a couple of years).

In some ways AD leaving now is a bit like the Catholic Church swapping Benedict for Francis, they have a huge pile of poo to clean out and need a new broom.

I also now more than ever understand why James Hird was such a brilliant player, it wasn't just the skills but the phenomenal self belief. Is becoming comparable to some of the more famous megalomaniacs of the last 100 years.

  10. Roos and Betnie can go up at seasons' end and have a chat to him.

    Wish list for the season.

    Frawley to sign on

    Hogan to sign on

Roos to sign on longer than the three

A definite improvement in performance and a rise up the ladder

Sign a big name player like Danger at the end of season

Mitch Clark to be completely over injuries and be ready to have a full pre-season for 2015

    Too much?

while none of those items are improbable, my head is full of doubt, can we start making burnt offerings at Norm Smith's statue.

  11. Thought the survey was fair, I really like the logo, always felt proud of the southern cross and reckon it makes sense to use it, better us that some white surpremacist nongs. Our logo and colours have evolved a bit over the years so it is pretty hard to put a finger on any one thing as original, allthough the monogram comes pretty close and would be an acceptable alternate. I've never been really sold on the various demon logos, it's been enough to be MELBOURNE! I am not ashamed of our heritage and as far as I reckon the logo captures most of it.
