  1. I really feel like the Dees are the worst team of all time. Cursed by perpetually incompetent management who can neither break even fiscally nor on the ground. It's been 23 years since we made a decent run at the finals (we all know 2000 was [censored]). How hard is it to hit the reset button and make a real 5 year challenge? Even those mongoloids over at Richmond finally got the formula right, we are still living in a fantasy land. Get rid of everyone and start again! The current crop of young players simply don't have it, especially Jack What? And we're wasting our time with old timers like Green. Someone needs to finally admit that this team doesn't have what it takes and cull them. We failed with our rrecent draft picks and we need to simply put up 3 years ass kickings to get the team right.

    Thoughts?

    PS I'm gay

  2. I'm starting to think that Nathan Jones should be our Captain. Not the best player, but always hard at it. Doesn't [censored], and keeps in touch with what the fans are saying. Good trainer, doesn't get in trouble, and is a strong leader. I'm for it.

When Scully and McKenzie return to the side Jones should be running around in the scooby doos. He certainly doesn't have any acceleration or clean skills so he must be in the side to win the clearances. He had none against WC and usually only gets a couple most days. He has been in the system long enough to develop and I think he has reached his ceiling. Might be a top bloke and say all the right things in the media but he should be put up for trade or shown the door at the end of his current contract.

  3. Sylvia and Morton would not get the 'axe' but a new coach might look at trading them (like a Johnstone for pick 14). I don't rate Morton so I would accept a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Sylvia should be kept because his best football is better than any other current MFC player and we have put too much hard work into developing him. He just has to iron out a few of his flaws (like having a go at Stef Martin for tripping him up when he had the ball) and deliver more consistent good performances between his great and pathetic games.

Wonna doesn't look like getting back to his 2008 form... injuries have cruelled him and i think he has lost the hunger. Wonna, Bennell, Jetta and Maric are all fighting for the small forward role and 2 or 3 of these guys would get the chop under a new coach.

Newton Dunn and Bate would all be looked at closely and Spencer is not required if Martin keeps improving and we have Gawn/Fitzpatrick waiting in the wings.

  4. Feeling pretty flat atm. A few things were reinforced for me today...

We rely too heavily on Davey to provide run and create opportunities. Whenever he gets a hard tag he disappears out of the game.

Jones has reached his ceiling and adds little value to the team. Just doesn't get enough clearances for an inside midfielder.

Grimes is rated too highly by too many. Clever footballer that marks well above his head for his size but his kicking is only average. Gets run down from behind too often and his kick lacks penetration resulting in turnovers.

  5. Can anyone think of an AFL player in recent times that has had more goals kicked on them than Brett Thornton?

Just a general question rather than a criticism because its not entirely Thornton's fault. He has played as key defender since 2002 for a club that has (for the most part) been sitting on the bottom of the ladder. And in that time the Blues have been given some real hidings.

My brother is a Blues supporter and raised the question with me and I can't think of anybody.

  6. "IF" we look like making the finals. How pedestrian of you.

If we look like winning the flag,I may have a glance.Otherwise I'll be PUNTING as usual.

    Oh dear,drop the "WE" please

Really... that upsets you? If you have to reprimand all the other posters for the same offence when will you have time to play Dungeons & Dragons?

  7. The only reason Rich is being linked to a WC trade is that he is from WA and nothing more. Surely Brisbane would only consider this trade if Rich told them he was homesick and wants out... in which case MFC have absolutely no chance of snagging him.

  8. Why didn't I follow my gut and take the $8.50 for 'any other player' instead of Sylvia? Davey finished equal 1st on 10 votes with Sylvia but those greedy pr!cks at the TAB only paid out half. Green got absolutely no love from the umpires yet again.

If we look like making finals next year with a few more wins on the board Davey could be a smokey

  9. Is he out of contract?

We are looking for somebody with his age, height and build so if he was on the table for the right price ... why not?

Don't know if they would consider Jones as they have plenty of midfield depth but Warnock could replace Milburn and is a better defender than Lonergan.

  10. I liked the confidence Trengove had in his own abilities from the 1st game. Like Scully not afraid of kicking on non-preferred running at top speed, and showed plenty of footy smarts. Just needs to keep building up his engine and polish up his overhead marking which let him down a few times that I remember.

  11. Ling was appalling. Podsiadly was once again exposed as the slow over-rated peddler that he is. Hawkins is terrible, always has been. Milburn's over the hill, Scarlett's getting close. Byrnes is untalented and the only goals he kicks are in the goalsquare. Mooney is the worst triple-premiership player I've ever seen.

If Ablett didn't play last night (what an absolute gun) they would have lost by another 6 goals. He was extraordinary.

Agree... Ling looks like the oldest 29 year old getting around. He will retain the captaincy next year but after that I think he will be a fringe player and will need to step aside.

When they removed Lonergan's kidney did they also remove his ability to spoil?

  12. Settle down folks

Collingwood can't win, the colliwobbles will strike again

Much much better to have the filth make the grand final and fail again, hopefully by a bad umpiring decision with a Aints goal after the siren, or anything suitably controversial

Couldn't possibly hate the Aints more than the Filth

I voted for the 'other' option in the poll because I was thinking along the same lines. It would be perfect if the pies led all day and were robbed by a terrible decision.

My favourite scenario is Saints down by 5 points with seconds remaining ... Milne (I know we all hate him but so do pies supporters) plays on from a mark 50m out along the boundary... he tries to fake the kick and sidestep a defender but gets grabbed by the jumper... pies supporters are screaming for "ball"... Daisy Thomas comes flying across to help but Milne ducks under his swinging arm which misses by at least a foot... Milne buckles at the knees and goes down as if shot... umpire pays the free for too high... Milne bounces up to his feet immediately and lines up the shot after the siren... after going without a kick all day he launches a barrel which sails over the top of a goal post... with pies players screaming and pleading right in her face the female goal umpire signals a goal. PIES LOSE!!!

Yes... there is something wrong with me.

  13. In the spirit of the thread - Jarryd Roughead.

I think he signed a 4 year deal and still has 3 years to run so Ruffy is very unlikely to be going anywhere... unless he and the Hawks both agree to a deal. Both parties may come to the realisation that he will never reach his full potential while living in Buddy's shadow (see Jack Riewoldt). OR Kennett's massive ego might force him (and the football department) to gamble at the trade table to secure another flag before he leaves office next year. I have spoken to a few hawks supporters and none of them are happy with Jarryd and were open to a Warnock + pick 12 trade scenario. I would even throw in our 2nd pick if it got the deal done. Now all I need to do is convince Clarkeson to play ball... anybody got his number?

  14. Love to have a few punts esp multis.....won 2500 once for 10 bucks on 6 games where each team had to win by less than 39.5pts (ie under 40pts)....over the course of the weekend the first five teams had got up...(amazingly)...the sixth and final game was mel v coll a QB few years back....the sixth leg of the bet was either side to win under 15.5pts....The siren had sounded and the dees had won by 13 or 14pts but ROBBO had taken a last minute screamer and was shooting for goal near the boundry after the siren.....you can imagine...so wrapt to win the game (esp against the pies).... my mates were most bemused at me suddenly screaming at the tele.... No No!!....He missed.

    Goddard/Pies 45/1

During pre-season I made a bet with a bomber mate that Jurrah would kick more goals than Gumbleton... that weekend LJ did his shoulder. I was probably the only MFC supporter with a grin on his face after round 22 against North when he bagged 5. Also, put $2 on Sylvia for the brownlow at 500-1... the next week guess who had his jaw broken?

Now wondering if I should apply for a job at the Crown as a 'cooler' or if Sylvia will now make a charge in the final rounds to steal Chaz.

  15. From sportsbet.

    Most votes MFC:

    Brad Green 2.50

    Colin Sylvia 3.25

    James Frawley 5.00

    Brent Moloney 8.00

    James Mcdonald 16.00

    Tom Scully 21.00

    Cameron Bruce 21.00

    Mark Jamar 21.00

Any Other Player Not Listed 34.00

    Jack Trengove 67.00

I would of thought that $10 on the Russian is good value to win $210.00

Might have a bit of a flutter. ;)

Agree about TMR. Just checked TAB sportsbet odds for MFC players... and they list Frawley, Green, Sylvia, Moloney and Scully as favourites and Any Other Player at $8.50. This is very tempting because you would think that Jamar will collect plenty of votes and Davey/Bruce/Junior have all had reasonable form and polled well in the past from memory.

  16. Don't know if the bombers have much that we need so swapping picks is probably how a deal would get done... if in fact Jones wants out.

I think he will follow Jamar's lead and take a 1 year contract to determine his future worth to the club. If he takes his game up to the next level (as Jamar did) he will be offered a nice fat 3 year deal by MFC... and if he gets squeezed out of our best 22 then he will have GWS sniffing around as his fall-back position.
