What is your ideal Coaching and Football Dept Setup next year?
Footynut replied to Footynut's topic in Melbourne Demons
Do we want a director of coaching overseeing Viney as a first year coach? Who are the specialists? Leigh Matthews or Paul Roos or a Malthouse to be director of coaching? -
What is your ideal Coaching and Football Dept Setup next year?

We have been limited by budget for years now. Surely its time for the club to say this is who we want and go get them? If we were to look at the best we could get given availability what would you want? -
Reality is many clubs have taken a rock bottom point like this to realise what they need to change as individuals and as a team. Geelong thrashed prior to their move up the ladder... Way back North Melb got smashed prior to their run when Schimma was sacked.... We are in this position now and forget the coaching staff....if the players as a group don't work it out and step up now they never will. Every player has to realise they all need to 'act' like a captain. Not leave it to anyone one player... We have leaders but whether designated or not all players now need to lead and realise coaching staff cannot do it all for them. (by the way im not saying the coaching staff are not accountable - they have a lot to answer for but they dont wear the responsibility all alone)

Agree....based on evidence it seems forward structures and execution are one of thousands of major issues the club has now. Jack is a great kid who will still be one of our best. As with all team games 1 person alone cant make a difference...but if everyone is aligned and capable we have a chance....

Easy to get on now and drum yourself up notradames....where have you been with your genius all season. No that's right just pop up now blaming anyone you can find. Bailey has to go and so should you....

Under your criteria Chopper Reid becomes an option then...

FFS so sick of these sort of threads... Do us all a favour and stop wasting peoples time..JCB We have seen enough of these threads and frankly they are not going to change anything... -
This is brilliant although some home truths in there... Saved straight to bookmarks!

People here are talking themselves into depression.... Reality is a young side is going to have ups and downs... No doubt there are some games coming up we have no right at the moment to consider winning. However Melbourne have proved time and time again over the years that they play good football when most expect them to lose. If Essendon proved anything last night it was that you just never know. I would expect we will knock over one of the mentioned teams unexpected because thats historically what we do. In addition I can actually see us losing another easy one along the way...thats just the way we are at the moment...

I know you know better than to draw conclusions based on outcomes alone. Unless you have hard evidence coaching is the issue it is only one a many potential factors. I know many people have pointed to Harwick and Hird crediting them when they win of being great 'game day coaches' compared to Bailey. Well I think that point has been well and truly made redundant. Let's face it you want our coaches gone and you blame them entirely for our performance. Reality is you are emotionally stuck looking at the smaller picture and not looking at the big one... Titan up and keep your eye on the ball...
-
You are getting caught up with the biweekly emotion to losses. If you wanted a better balanced view of this you would have waited till end of season where all performances could be judged and team progress measured. This sack the coach thread after every week shows a propensity to be caught up in the emotion rather than a balanced view. Young team equals ups and downs that's the fact...You know that but you are letting emotion cloud your judgement.
-
+1 Ppl need to realise this is what you get with a young team. Don't get caught up in the emotion and riding the performances week in week out as you will be disappointed. Bigger picture view required here which is not easy for many here to do.

Two words.......IN LOVE

This was also discussed on 3AW yesterday between Matthews, Cometti and co... They were basically saying that with Ablett the general public could justify the move in their own minds given what he had given the club already and acheived personally. Whereas they were saying by the way Melb is playing this out, if Scully was to leave he would need to consider that the general public and football world wont be forgiving. Based on the fact he has only just started his journey in the AFL, he hasn't contributed much or achieved much for himself or the club yet so he will be seen as going for the money and having not been honest with the club which supported him all the way...

Just love his attack on the ball and the will to break the lines with his pace....sensational pick up this kid...recruitment dept are coming up all roses this month...

I think its time that hoodoo is put to rest.... I really believe we are going to win this week against the doggies...we have true momentum now..

Just watched the game again and I had the hairs stand up all over me watching that goal before 3/4 time siren. As someone else here stated the look on his face after kicking the goal looked like he was going to kill someone! LOVE it!!

I just need to get it off my chest..... I'm in love with Jack and have been for a number of weeks now... He and Trengove are the 2 most important players Melbourne has for the future leadership of this club. Totally in love with them both...
-
Agree Bate and Dunn are not going to be part of our long term future and we should look to maximise what we can get for them asap before they lose any more currency..

Quite frankly prosepective coaches should be lining up begging to take the reigns of this team. Easily the biggest upside of the comp. Personally I think regardless of the outcome this year, the team is developing together and the coach is on the same journey. The plan is working. Wait for seasons end and then review and most probably reappoint.
