FYI these are some of the players who have been picked up from P50 onwards in the ND since the start of this decade. Domenic Cassissi (PortAdel), Daniel Cross (WBull), Graham Johncock (Adelaide), Paul Medhurst (Freo), Dane Swan (Collingwood), Adam Selwood (West Coast), Sam Fisher (St. Kilda), Chris Knights (Adel), Matthew Stokes (Geel). There are a number of others who have been good players for their respective clubs drafted P50+ but i didn't include for the sake of brevity... Comparibly, the PSD's have been very ordinary most years, with a number of fringe players being recycled, players at the end of their careers, speculative selections on youngsters that failed, etc.. I think if you looked at it comparibly, there are definately better prospects available at the bottom end of the ND draft, than are available in the PSD. Nick Stevens, Craig Bolton, and Brent Moloney were some of the better PSD picks that were also taken (in addition to those already mentioned) - but there's a lot of deadwood in those PSD's if the last 10 years is anything to go by tbh...

What the [censored] is that?? I wasn't even responding to you. You've got to be kidding aren't you? Putting your 2 cents worth for virtually EVERY sentence i wrote - as 'braindead' as your opinions are... Please only respond when i 'engage' you belzebub59... Which is 'never'. Thank you.

Well i disagree with you. How do you know that the FD is going to keep the PSD pick anyway? Have you been in contact? I'm just going by what Barry Prendergast said in an interview. He seemed to think that it was possible that a couple of prospects 'we' rate as 2nd rounders might slip through to the 3rd and 4th rounds this year. That's just what he said.... If that situation arised, it would be pretty stupid of us to forfeit our pick just so we can hold on to the PSD selection, so that some other team can select the player 'we want' further on in the ND... The only reason we were able to get Jurrah in the PSD was due to the fact he hadn't nominated for the ND. He got special dispensation or whatever from the AFL to be included in the nominees for the PSD. He would've gone in the 3rd or 4th round of the ND had he been nominated. Dawson and Cousins are hardly tantalizing prospects for a side like us tbh... At any rate, we're not necessarily going to find a player we want in the PSD. I mean, most of these players are there for a reason - namely, that they weren't considered good enough to be picked up in the ND. Also, sitting on the PSD pick in the hopes that a good player fails to re-negotiate a deal with their current club is sort of a long shot imo... If there's a player we really like still available at pick 50, we pick him regardless of the PSD pick.... (unless we are already in the frame to sign an uncontracted player...)

I still think that Geelong playing at close to full strength are the best team. Saints play 'Etihad' very well and probably have some advantage when they play there. So playing at the MCG will negate the 'home ground' advantage they had over the cats last time. Also, Geelong were asleep in the 1st quarter of that game, but won the other 3 quarters i believe on the scoreboard. They were missing a few players and St. Kilda were at full strength. Its just a matter of whether they can get the likes of Scarlett, Chapman, S. Johnson, Rooke, G. Ablett, and Harley all fit at the same time. Ottens would be handy too, but its questionable that he'll be able to have a significant impact if he can actually play. Geelong to DEF St. Kilda for mine in a tight contest... (Collingwood the darkhorse. As much as it sickens me to say...They seem to play very well against Geelong, and they could find themselves in the GF if they can knock the Cats off in Week1..)

Will we still get the Priority Pick?
Scully The Tank Engine replied to Dee1987's topic in Melbourne Demons
Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Stevens, Houlihan, Simpson, etc.. will be a handful for us i'm guessing. It's not like we're playing Richmond again people.. -
If there's a player we like at pick 50 then its not really necessary to keep the PSD 1 pick. It just depends what's available imo. If, say, a player we like as a 2nd round prospect slips through to pick 50 then surely we'd pick him... We'll only keep the PSD pick if all the players we really rate are gone.

Picks: 1,2,18,34 and either 50 or PSD pick 1. That doesn't surprise me considering the lack of depth in the draft, and also taking into consideration we've made more than 7 changes to our list in each season since Bailey took the reigns. At least we'll be getting most of it done at the top end of the draft, so probably only 1 of them will be a 'speculative' type...

Forumulated Opinions
Scully The Tank Engine replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
-Melbourne needs a power forward to be a 3/4 year 'premiership contender', not to be just 'competitive'. We can be competitive without one. -The list 'is' big enough for Jones, Brock and Moloney, but what about our best 22? That's my query 2 years down the track from now... -We do need some star players. I actually think a number of them have some merit, but I agree that there are a few miss-truths that get bandied about as irrefutable fact. Like 'Dean Bailey has no gameplan' 'Brock McLean can't kick' (he can kick, and we'll see that with a full pre-season) 'Winning premierships is essentially about constructing the best midfield - and this will compensate for deficiencies in other areas'. -
Moloney © Green (VC), McLean (VC), Davey (VC)

My 3 word player analysis V The Shockers
Scully The Tank Engine replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yet again? He's been terrific for most of the games he's played this year. He was quite good today without setting the world on fire imo.... He's the 3rd best player at our club after Brad Green and Aaron Davey.... -
Russell Robertson MUST be signed
Scully The Tank Engine replied to melbournefc18's topic in Melbourne Demons
yeah, i'm not sure about that. Freo weren't much better than a mid-table VFL outfit today... Nonetheless, I still think if Robbo could get a full pre-season under his belt, he could be very useful for us next year, or any other team interested in his services for that matter... Could still kick 40-50 goals a year next season imo, and with our lack of tall options ATM, I don't see why he couldn't play, so long as his fitness & workrate's there. Probably depends on whether the match committee/coaching staff think they can get hold of, and blood another KPF over the pre-season.. -
Will we still get the Priority Pick?
Scully The Tank Engine replied to Dee1987's topic in Melbourne Demons
Carlton will beat us. We only play well at the 'g'. We're just no good under the roof at this stage... Plus, they are playing for a 'home' final now, not just a final. They'll be stung into action with the knowledge that they could potentially avoid a trip to Adelaide or Bribane in week 1 of the finals by beating us. If Essendon knocks the Saints off today, that will be a good result for us as well. It'll be a wake up call for them... -
just another low-key training session for the Dawk-ers ... Should've seen it coming...

Newton's a good VFL player who simply does not measure up to AFL standard. Fairly straightforward summation i would've thought....

Retire / Delist - How many and who?
Scully The Tank Engine replied to JACKATTACK's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ye..Probably not the best example. I was just trying to point out that if you want to up-grade for a higher draft pick, you're going to have to give up a player that other teams would 'want' on their list, not just one of our delistees... I would say that Nathan Jones and pick 18 for pick 5 could be a good deal for us, esp. if it netted us John Butcher in addition to Scully & Trengove...Would a side go for that?? I dunno, but with it looking increasingly likely we'll take two gun midfielders at the ND, we might need to think about offloading 1 or 2 to get another KPF in the mix. I don't really like talking about trading guys like Nathan Jones, but we have a couple of deficiencies that need to be addressed imo - KPF and ruck specifically...
