  1. I agree, sometimes you need these players to keep pressure on the other guys & for a bit of injury protection. Not every player on every list will be a star otherwise you wouldnt need over 40 blokes on a list. Some players take longer to develop or to find the best position for them. Now i havnt been on here for a while but last time i was everyone was saying delist Jamar as hes garbage,Sylvia to but look at the years they just had & to think lots of Demon supporters would of traded them for unknown players.Sometimes you have to have faith & go with what we have, its no point trading or delisting for players that arnt any better

  2. Just a name from out of the blue which ill throw in for the defensive coach. But how about Nathan Bassett.Has taken Norwood from 7th last year to the grand final this year which they only lost by 1 goal. The list was also worse than the one they had last year as the club wasnt aloud to recruit or get any Crows or Power youngsters which they drafted. They lost older experienced players in Kris Massie & Luke Jericho yep made a big leap up the ladder. All the commentators here are saying Crows & power would be mad not to take him & think he will be AFL bound next year or year after. All opposition coaches of the finals side said Norwood played with a defensive set up & zone far superior to anything they had ever seen in the SANFL & said it was AFL standard.Norwood also conceded less goals this year than anyone else in SANFL keeping the years goals against to under 7 per game

  3. He doesn't know who he wants - it all depends on who got a write-up the day before

Im still on the Alex Stopp bandwagon for a tall defender.195cm & 85kg & played all year at CHB & FB for Norwoods league side.He had a interview with the crows today as they are looking at him.Id love to have him & hes a true defender with pace & size & hes good mates with Trengove to :)

  4. mclean talked during his beep test when he was at the draft camp. he was trying to spur on his his murray bushrangers teamate. so there you go. it does happen.

and no i havent done the 1000 steps before.

Trengove did it in his beep test this year to,he was the only one that kept pushing the other lads & kept encouraging them.Thats 1 of the things that impressed the talent scouts, said hes a natural leader & onfield leader

  5. the order of levels of competetion is like this

    VFL & WAFL

    SANFL

    QAFL

    NSW & NTFL

and yes the sanfl would be harder to play that TAC Cup

Youre kidding youirself, ask anyone that knows & they will say that the SANFL is far & away the best comp in the country behind the AFL.Its SANFL,VFL,WAFL.BY the way the whole subjact wasnt brought up by me to bag any player i was reporting the info from the paper & as most thiongs on here its rumours at this stage who will go where. Its not saying a SA lads better than a VIC lad or vice versa as it dosnt matter cos we will get them both it was just another discussion topic

  6. If you go through the variations in the reaction times of the world's top sprinters, you'll find they vary by 0.05 quite regularly. My point is that a difference of 0.02 (b/w Jetta and Trengove) is not a significant one. You'd only start talking about a difference after ~ 0.05 (and even then you'd want a consistent difference over a number of trials).

Take home message - Trengove's fast out of the blocks.

Yeah all the tests are conducted on the 1 day,sat the 10th over a 4 or 5 hour period. As for the comment about the SANFL being a lower standard than the AFL well thats obvious but it is recognised as the 2nd best comp in the country & still miles ahead of the kids under 18 comp

  7. The Dees will pick Scully with #1 surely, it is a fair recognition of two years of sustained excellence at the U18 level. I think its fair to say that Trengove has really only burst on to the scene this year.

The source is the Advertiser.Melb officials were here yesterday to watch the state screening wher Trengove was very good,in the top 2% nationally for the sprint & beep test. They had a long chat with him & its believed that they think he has the mental edge over Scully to be able to handle the media attention that goes with being num 1.Thers no diff as we will take them both anyway its just the media scrutiny & interviews etc that num 1 has to deal with.Hes had the media interviews & press reports etc leading up to the finals & playing in the G/F & they think he could handle it better. As for saying hes only just burst onto the scene is a bit off, maybe over in Vic he hasnt had the attention but the same goes here for Scully.Id say very few outside of Melb supporters over here would ever have heard of him,i hadnt until half way through this year.Trengove is playing at a far superior level & captained the state so for me hes a standout num 1,im not baging Scully though so dont think that.I just think that trengove is ready to play AFL right now

  8. Alex Stopp from the Norwood football club has set a record in the beep test with a 15.9.Its the highest since the draft Camp started 16 years ago.Alex is a 195cm,85kg Key Defender, either CHB or FB.He played all year in Norwoods senior side & was named a rising star & was in the best several times. He stood the likes of Trent Hentschell,Ken MCGregor,Damon White etc & performed very well.He likes the Melb football club & played all his junior rep footy with Trengove so he would love to end up at Melb.I know hes a defender but hes only 19 so would be great for us & hes a great kid.Think he would be a great pick up either in our 3rd or 4th round if he lasts that far

  9. i hope you'are right.

i just hope we take best available with all of our picks. no use in picking up a staker clone at 11 or 18 just because they are key position

Well if people think that we are only taking 1 mid with our 1st 2 picks i think that may mean that we pass on Scully then.Trengove will go num 1 in my opinion.Theink we have to take Trengove & Scully at 1,2 then go for a KPP at 11.Hopefully either Butcher or Panos are still around. For a late pick in our 3rd or 4th round id love us to take a CHB/FB by the name of Alex Stopp from Norwood, realy rate the guy

  10. Its believed that Melbourne will take Trengove with the Number 1 pick this year followed by Scully at 2.Melbourne believe that Trengove is more mature & ready to take on the responsibility to go at num 1 over Scully.Think he can handle the number 1 tag easier & is more ready to play AFL.He finished in the top 2% Nationally in the sprints & beep test.I know in the end it dosnt matter as we will take both but its still a big compliment & something ive believed for a while.Either way we will get 2 guns.Go the Dees

  11. Getting Luke Ball at the Demons via the Pre-Season Draft would be a MASSIVE coup for the club! :)

C'mon Demons...its time to be RUTHLESS!!!

That would be great,id be very happy with that.Been a bit Dissapointed with our trade week i thought we might have done more but that would make up for it

  12. Decent for me is anything this side of pick 40, anything after seems like a selection that wont be used.

John Reid from the Crows said they wont be trading away or trading in anyone. The only 1 that might go is Jonathon Griffen who Port might take now that the Burgoyne deal is done.So they wont take Bell

  13. Thanks, i hope its us?

Dont no what player we can bundle with a pic that would cause interest to either club though.

From what i heard its Williams from Hawks to Ess,Burgoyne from Port to Hawks & then Port get Hawks pick 9 & Ess pick 10.That would give Port8,9,10

  14. Sorry mate,

It's not Salopek because he's signed .. its Berger .. Im going crazy!

(they do look pretty similar) lol

I can state that Burgoine doesn't want to play for anyone but the Hawks - but I have a "sneaky" suspicion that Port will make a stand and send him to the PSD.

His price is $650,000 for all clubs bar Hawthorn as a scare tactic.

Port have no say if he goes into PSd or National draft. All Port can do is refuse the deals that Hawks offer but then Burgoyne can nominate for National draft.Which then if whoever wants him can take him as long as they meet his pay demands.Problem there for Burgoyne though is that Freo & Swans have both said they have the money & room in the cap to take him & they both have picks before Hawks.Thats where we might win out cos if Burgoyne serious about playing in VIC he might have to skip the draft & just nominate for PSD so as Freo or Swans dont get him. There we have the num 1 pick plus room in our cap.Port have just put all the pressure back on Burgoyne & the Hawks but in the end might help us.Maybe we have stepped in & tried to help Burgoyne out by getting his wish to play in Vic even if we arnt his 1st choice

  15. With Watts and Jurrah in the forwardline, I think we need a BIG body to take some attention off then.

Miller could fill this positionwhich would free up Watts who could play a roaming CHF with Jurrah being the 3rd tall, freeing him up aswell.

The big body doesn't need to be a star (as Mr. Morton alluded to Mooney), but I think it would be handy if they could kick a little better than Miller.

I think we draft one KPF with a big body and if a trade possibility arises in the next two years, we jump on it.

My honest opinion i think Taylor Walker is better than all of the KPP in the draft & id give up 11 or 18 to the Crows any day of the week.Hes afew years ahead & just about to take off i think & hes at the stage where you know what your getting.Crows just signed Tippett for 3 years so i think that leaves Walker playing a bit more SANFL,maybe he would want out

  16. I think Butcher is overrated from all reports

There are questions over Panos' ability at senior level

I like Carlisle but he is injury prone

Im with you there,i think it gets harder by the day & id hate to be picking.Just hope the right choice is made for the club.No one on here has seen all the choices up close & live so its all just down to as much as we know or hear at this stage of the game

  17. The point is though that no one knows how good they both will turn out.Plenty of clubs have had low picks & got duds & we have had our share & sometimes you can find gems late in the draft.Butchers & Panos may or may not be guns & who knows where they will go.

Oh & by the way i know your not attacking Panos & obviously evryone has different opinions. My post started from a friend that has played on Butcher & with Panos & i was just passing on what he thinks & who he thinks is better. With regard to Waters not playing many games ill say that its always been that way with the SANFL.Id bet that 90% of players drafted to the AFL from SA have never played more than 2 or 3 games of league. The clubs dont like playing kids in the League side & in the last 10 years id say Trengove has played more A-Grade games than Cooney,Gibbs etc.Tapscotts only played a couple this year,Rivers didnt play many,Jamar didnt either.Up until this year the SANFL was under 17s & under 19s so usually they were drafted out of the 19s.Just pointing out that most that get drafted dont play much league here if that helps at all

  18. I find that recruiters sometimes focus to much on players negatives and look for too many reasons to not pick a player as was teh case with Carlton with Yarran and Rich. Butcher isn't the complete package and may not have had a great season but fact is his is still the best tall mark in this years draft.

The point is though that no one knows how good they both will turn out.Plenty of clubs have had low picks & got duds & we have had our share & sometimes you can find gems late in the draft.Butchers & Panos may or may not be guns & who knows where they will go.

  19. Beau Waters played about 3 reserves SANFL games before he got picked up.

I think you're failing to remember it's about what the player CAN do, not what he's doing right now

Exactly right & the point still is that Panos has played League for Norwood,he only played a few & didnt star but the team had, walker, jericho,Rowe whos 196cm & played at Swans,Terlich who also was at Swans & Lee who played at Essendon. They are all more experienced & have more mature bodies. In the Reserves he was playing at CHF & was kicking his 3 or 4 every week which is good for CHF.Hes no the biggest but you dont have to be,hes as tall as Neitz but quicker & more agile & hes around the same height as Bradshaw & Fev but more mobile than both.Fact is PANOS was ALL AUST & Butcher wasnt so that says alot & also Butchers playing at a lower level

  20. That's right. We do hold all the cards here. If Port want our ruckmen they must deal so that we end up in the positive. Or else go away.

Simple. We must play real hard Ball this year.

We are now reaping the Benefits of the 2009 season & all the other clubs know it.

I think Jamar is theyre 2nd option which is in a way good for us but also means that they dont realy rate him.Just heard that at this stage it looks like Burgoyne to Hawks for pick 9,which Port will then give to Carlton for Hampson, gettint the ruck they require. That way we still keep Jamar

  21. HA! I was thinking the same thing.

I remember Sellar was supposed to be pick two after Gibbs a few years ago. He ended up being the last pick of the first round from memory... pick 16 or thereabouts. He's not entirely useless, but I'm not sure he's going to have a glittering career.

Would people prefer Talia over Butcher? While Butcher is a chance to drift to eleven, Talia is NO chance I would have thought. Would love to see some of the mock drafts people have in mind for the first 20 picks.

Personaly i still think Panos is far better than Butcher & U/18 all australian selectors think so to.Butcher may go early but i cant see why as im not keen on him.Give me Panos any day

  22. SORRY DIDN'T SEE OTHER THREADS .

Dont have to apolagise its all good mate,[censored] happens & its still a valid topic.Ess will chase him hard cos Matthew LLoyd was on radio here talking to Cornsey & rowe & said they realy badly wanted Davey 1st but they couldnt get him so now they will focus on Burgoyne.Good for us they didnt get Davey

  23. So you are saying he would be more of a stopp-ing defender?

Haha you got me there, thats exactly what id say he is.Hes been getting around a dozen kicks a game plus half a dozen handballs but is strong, takes a good grab & has a good spoil on him.Hes not someone that will get cheap kicks sweating off players & rack up 40 stats a game cos hes a close shecking hard defender.Good solid build to & has played against & stood some X-AFL players.Only 19 as well so id love us to give him a go.Obviously you have seen him or know of him so whats your opinion?

  24. thanks mate

Yeah the AS initials got it,thats him so think you can figure that out.Played Fullback & CHB all year for Norwoods League side & is going to the state screening after attending the National screening last year.Quality kid & would be a good solid player at AFL level.More in the mould of a Frawley or Rutten i would think, can use the ball well & has a huge kick, not a flashy player but a solid hard player.Thinks he might get rookied or picked up late.% clubs spoke to him last year & as i said hed love to play at the Dees

  25. I'd like him if we can get him over on the cheap

Cant believe people dont rate Ball,id love to have him at the club & as a past Captain & GF player he has experience & leadership which after McDonald goes would be handy in the Mid.Saying that i wouldnt give up 1,2 o r 11 for him but maybe 18 or a late pick plus a player.Would jump at him in PSD though without a 2nd thought. He just played in a GF & did very well, not everyday you get a chance for a player like that for free.As for being slightly inferior to Mclean you must be kidding,10 times better than Mclean ever will be.Id rate him in the top 20 Mids in the league but Mclean wouldnt make my top 50
