I was there as a 17 yr old with my 13 yr old brother. Front row Southern stand about Bay 13. 15 yr old brother slept outside the MCG for 3 nights to buy series tickets. (Any excuse to get out of school). The only way to be sure of a Grand Final ticket. Sadly it was the last game I saw for 20 years as I took a Saturday job working in the TAB and as footy was only played on Saturday in those days, for the sake of family finances I gave up footy. Happy to say I am now in my 31st consecutive year of membership and looking forward to that next elusive premiership.

Last year Robbo & a couple of injured players - Mark Jamar & a couple of others went up early and did clinics in Alice Springs & elsewhere along the way. Even had a small problem in their chartered light plane having to make an emergency landing.

If a player who is drafted at No 50 "underperforms" when he doesn't crack the top ten, then we have 34 players each year that don't crack the top ten & "underperform". Players can play to the best of their ability & finish 20th in the B & F without "underperfotming"

I pulled over with smoke coming from under the bonnet of my car. Not knowing the source, I rang the RACV and gave my rego number as MFC 16. The person on the other end of the phone replied "Melbourne Football Club? We can't have you stranded, I'll have someone there straight away." A serviceman promptly appeared 10minutes later to assist. MFC & RACV my saviours.

I have seen Jack Watts on many occasions running out holding hands with the "mascot of the day" and occasionally turning around to pick them up when they have fallen over after running through the banner. He is a really caring person, especially with the smaller kids. He has the right attitude & a lot of time for the supporters. All he needs is the right coach to get his game sorted out. I would hate to lose him from the club.

You could head to the Lindsay Hasset room before the game where other Premium members have a drink or a meal. A couple of players come and are interviewed. Everyone is pretty friendly & will always have a chat.

A good summary. The players were pretty unanimous in their praise for Jade Rawlings while many mentioned Mark Neeld in their speeches & Neil Craig was pretty well thanked by all. Russell Robertson & Band entertained during breaks in the proceedings. No sign of the Blazers last night. I wonder whose decision that was? A most enjoyable night.

Melbourne has a history of delisting the leading vote getter in the secondary competition, with one player famously saying at the Bluey Truscott while accepting his trophy " I guess this means I'll be delisted next week" - and he was. If they are playing enough games in the seconds to get the most votes - they are not good enough for the seniors.

Unfortunately there are a lot of players who do not know when it is their time to retire. They love playing and being around the club & their mates. How many have then nominated for the draft and then either not been picked up or failed to make the grade at their new club?
