  1. I am pretty sure Brock was a big Essendon supporter as a kid, I know he attended Essesndon training a bit before he got drafted. He was just doing the right thing in an interview by saying he didn't support a club, supporters don't like it too much when straight after you get drafted the player says "I was a big supporter of your rival team".
  2. I think you're being a bit harsh on Brad, the game was such a one sided contest that just about everyone for Casey had a pretty good day and choosing the best is hard task. His opponent for most of the day was the highly rated Michael Hurley and I thought Miller played really well.
  3. The clubs can promote the scholarship players onto the senior list or rookie list at the time of the final list lodgement before the National Draft. The player can refuse to be put on a rookie list if he believes he may picked up in the national draft by another club.
  4. I must say I was pretty dissipointed by Butcher's game today, I know he has had his injuries this year but I can't think of him winning a 50/50 contest today. His best moments where when he chased and laid a couple of tackles, and for a 197cm key forward, I don't want that being the best thing of his game. The WA defenders were into him early and I don't know if he felt comfortable out there today, to be fair to him I thought he played a lot better on saturday although agaisnt much weaker opposition. On Ted Strudwick our NSW boy, I thought he looked a good ordinary player. Unfortunately just before half time he made a critical mistake that cost his side a goal and he didn't do much after that. I am a bit shocked that Scully didn't get the Larke medal as well, I know Vic Metro didn't do well but he had just about 5 BOG which is an amazing feat.
  5. Someone has put them up on big footy, it can be found here here I thought I might give people an idea on who to watch for tomorrow. Tas Vs NSW/ACT What I would consider the worst game of the four, For Tassie 4 - Jack Boon - A clever forward pocket who is the son of my second favorite cricketer as a kid. 9 - Marcus Davies - High possesion half Back player has an exceptional kick. 14 - Jessie Crichton - Skinny winger who starred in last year's championships and has the most flamboyant hair in footy. For NSW/ACT I haven't seen any of NSW/ACT this year and most of the players are already aligned with AFL clubs. 43 - Ted Strudwwick - Our boy, Melbourne's one and only scholarship holder. QLD(GC17) V NT QLD most of the players are GC17 bound NT I havent seen much of these kids but here are couple that should be worth watching. 15 - Troy Taylor - A freak forward who has makes the hard look effortless. 18 - Steven May - Tall uttility player who is most likely GC17 bound. 20 - Roland Ah Chee - Inside midfielder who has been racking up the possesions this championships VIC Country Vs WA Vic C 3 - Allen Christensen - Small mid/fwd with good speed and skills. 13 - Ryan Bastinac - Midfielder who has a penetrating left foot kick. 20 - Ben Cunnington - Solid midfielder. 23 - Gary Rohan - Hard working winger with explosive red hair, should go to us to join the red head brigade down at melbourne. 26 - John Butcher - Apperently coming to us at number 2. WA I have only seen this team once on saturday. but here are the players everyone is talking about. 4 - Brandon Matera - Looking likely for GC17 10 - Kane Lucas - Midifelder with strong hands 24 - Anthony Morabito - Powerful runner with great skills. 28. Jack Darling - Mid sized half forward. Vic M Vs SA 14 - Jack Fitzpatrick - Rangy CHB 26 - Jake Melksham - Pacy and skillful midfielder 30 - Jake Carlisle - KPP prospect 32 - Tom Scully - is getting his locker ready at the Junction oval. 34 - Josh Toy - GC17 bound. SA 16 Luke Tapscott 20 Jack Trengrove 33 Matthew Panos I will be heading down to watch all four and it is good thing they are starting with the Div 2 teams as I would be hard pressed to stay for the 8th hour watching Tassie and NSW/ACT.
  6. Ben Mckinley plays like a KPP but is only 184cm, I don't think we really need another Robbo at the moment. He would be worth thinking about if ther price is right, pre season draft or late pick.
  7. It's a real shame that Strauss got suspeneded as he will most likely miss another 2 weeks with casey's bye this weekend. He has just strung a couple of games together and bulding form and confidence and this puts him behind again when he really just needs game time afte injuries have ruined his start to the year. I don't think Zaharakis's current form is making Melbourne question their decision to take Blease and Strauss.
  8. I'll put my two cents in. I am being a bit hopeful with all of these. 1. Jack Watts A class act, Skills, Pace and Heigt is a good combo. 17. Tom Lynch a Lynch & Watts partnership would be perfect, Lynch while not as skilled as watts is uncompromising towards the footy and adds a bit of aggression and bite to a team . He would have the ability to run in the midfield as well with top 10 at draft camp for the beep test. I doubt that both Lynch and Blease will be available here, but here's hoping. 19. Sam Blease Pace is what Blease is all about, and we needs some. 35. James Strauss As Jack touched on is one of the best kicks in this draft and Burgan has him going Hawthorn at 34. Hopefully they pass him up and he can slip to us at this pick. 51. Rory Sloane Tough, quick midfielder/defender who has a great work ethic and defensive skills. 64. Jack Redden Solid Ruck prospect. 71. Pass
  9. APS has finished for the year and Watts should be playing the next four weeks with the Sandy Dragons, this week sandy plays Northern at TBO on saturday morning at 10:45 if you want to go see him play.
  10. On what I saw I would like Jack to play a couple more games in the reserves before senior VFL, we want him to get plenty of game time and play in a variety of positions to help his development and recovery from injury. Something he probably wouldn't in the senior side.
  11. I won't be able to make it down there today but will be very interested in how young Jack goes, David Dickson on camera made the comment that Jack got ahead of himself and tried to do too many fancy things on Saturday against NSW and I am looking forward to how Jack responds to a pretty disappointing game. On the Vic country Kids ,10 - Suban,16 - Sidebottom and 21 - Ziebell are three guys you should watch for and for Tassie I really Like 19 Aaron Cornelius who mainly plays at CHF. The teams for todays matches are on the AFL Website Here
  12. You're also forgetting the 17th and 18th teams IF they go ahead they might get the first two picks as well. We could finish bottom with no wins and get pick 5 if Carlton and Richmond finish with less than 18 points. I doubt this will happen but it is theoretically possible which highlights how crap the systems is, the only consilation would be an extra pick at the end of the first round for us.
  13. Went to the game yesterday, agree with most of you're thoughts, but I still think that they will win a few games this year. They have two Mobile KPPs in Pavlich and Mcpharlin that are class and they have a huge home ground advantage, two things we don't have and that might be enough for Freo to not finish in the bottom 4 this year.
  14. There is also other tests at the draft camp, we don't know much about his endurance tests and probably the most important test is the interview, if the head coaches don't like what they see his chances go down. There is something with him, we all just don't know yet.
  15. The fact the Richmond took Rance probably means CAC made the right choice, they always seem to make the bad calls with their early picks.
  16. I wouldn't say Pears is a true KPP, he is only 190cm and we have plenty of undersized key defenders as it is. With Rance, no one else took him with a first round pick so you think whatever pushed him down the order all the other clubs agreed with CAC.
  17. Gourdis and Kangars are both athletes over footballers at the moment, Gourdis looked okay in the champs but so did everyone in a brilliant WA side and i didn't see him at WAFL level and his draft camp results weren't enough for him to get drafted. Kangars was one I was unsure about on very limited viewings, it just takes one club to like him enough and no one did. But I think both will be rookied at the least,a long with some others that missed out, Will Sullivan, Tom Bellchambers and James Mulligan are three ruckman that all missed out on being drafted and would have to be in consideration for rookie spots.
  18. I am pretty sure that that's not the case, I think that potential draftees(apart from F/S) are not able to train at clubs as this would be considered draft tampering. He may have trained there earlier in the year as part of some kind of AFL scheme, but only undrafted players after the national draft and before the preseason draft train at clubs and even then Cotchin wouldn't be allowed because he has another year of eligibility at U18 level.
  19. In other articles it points out that Collard, Mourish and Dunn are all being invited back for preseason training which indicates they will try to put them on their Rookie list. So they haven't given up on the players, they just want to give them more time in the system without being on the senior list. The risk of this though is someone can rookie or draft any of them before Fremantle can redraft them.
  20. That's news to me. I know they did on one player we drafted but it wasn't Molan.
  21. Bizzel had an absolute shocker of a game, played as a loose man and was totally ineffective. Polak and Bowden had 28 and 33 touches respectively and dominated the game playing as loose men in defense.
  22. You will not find a bigger fan of Daniel Hayes than me, Hayes was the most talented player on the park when the reserves played IMO. BUT to say he was close to BOG today is bull, the things he does are spectacular and brilliant but he just isn't getting enough of it. He would of had about 15 Possessions today only, he just isn't running hard enough between the contests to have bigger impact on games. This is fine, it's all part of his development as he gains match fitness and works his way into the form. To put time limits and the such on when he has to be the Sandy Seniors especially when the players ahead of him are nearly all VFL Premiership players is all a bit silly. ,
  23. Game starts off in cold windy conditions. Newton is on the bench.
