  1. If things don't go well for us next year, does anyone think there's a chance Goody might walk away?

Is it unreasonable to assume the club and the coach are mature enough to agree to an amicable split to avoid the trauma of sacking our only living premiership coach?

List management definitely needs a review as not sure who we have traded in since 2021 has helped the team vs May, Lever, Langdon, Hibberd all contributed to the flag winning team.

Agree, but prior to 21 we had salary cap space to attract big name players.
Post 21 we have not because we needed to give the 21 premiership players long term high value contracts to retain then and because they deserved it.

We had no coice but to play moneyball 22-24.

Did you listen to the Paul Marsh interview on SEN? It’s just a review of the AFL process with a focus on improvements going forward. It’s not an investigation. Petracca ain’t going anywhere for now…

Re: the review of the process I agree entirely. The specific incident has already been litigated. The AFL and the invloved medical participants wouldn't appreciate the AFLPA dredging up findings that point to negligence, it would get very messy. It would make a lot of sense though if the focus is to develop an improved process/policy.

Tracc's was severe but there have been many other instances in the last few years alone of players being sent back onto the field with broken ribs that lead to unknown internal  injuries. Mason Cox only last year I think.

  4. Personally I think it's impossible to sack Simon. The only way I see that as an option is if the players demand it.

With all the other turmoil and the number of over 28 year old players that we have, assuming it's true that they love the coach, we'd almost certainly be cactus for the next 5 years.

The indignity and trauma of sacking Simon would be an almighty blow to the on field leaders, good luck to the next bloke picking up those pieces.

Why? He’s just a lesser version of Goodwin in every way except he gives long drawn out quotes with big words in the media. If we sack Goody the worst thing we could do was get another Collingwood has been at the club.

Bucks was a good coach and often, not always, coaches have done better on their second rodeo.

Plus, he won't get a quarter of the $h!t that Goody has had to deal with from the media. In fact I'd suggest the media would back off the club entirely.

A set up in the Herald Sun's dreadful campaign against the Melbourne Football Club dishonestly suggesting that there was a mutiny at the club based on a poll taken on line.

"Thousands of Melbourne fans have backed former president Joe Gutnick's call for the embattled club to sack coach Simon Goodwin."

The poll was open to the public and there's no evidence as to how many of the people who voted are Melbourne fans.

This is a disgraceful and dishonest set up against Simon Goodwin and a breach of journalistic ethics. The only person who deserves to get the sack is the person responsible for this outrage.

    Disgraceful from the HUN.

    Shameful

  7. Feels like it's a no win for Brad, he did what he had to do.

If Joe asks to meet him for lunch and he declines Joseph eventually tells Robbo 'I have reached out to Brad to offer some assistance but he chose not to meet with me'

Instead Brad meets with Joe, no doubt to hear what he has to say and seek some benefits the other way and Joe tells Robbo, 'I have told Brad he should sack the coach, etc...'

  8. Prior to the last 2 years we've done quite well attracting good to very good players from other teams.

    Bernie Vince started it.

Shortly thereafter it was Jake Melksham, Jordan Lewis and Michael Hibberd.

Not long after that it was the quartet that assured the premiership Lever, Langdon, May and Brown.

But, no doubt we've taken a few hits to the body in this space the last 18 months. To outsiders it may appear we've reached the mountain and coming down the other side now.

    No cannot believe that really

Agree. Though Speed also said Brendon Gale was involved at Richmond and it was successful.

I love when Speed suggested Green should have (or still could) ask for "a month to get things sorted" and hopefully get the media off our backs for a bit.

Just listened to Malcolm Speed's take on our review/s on Whately this morning.

For those that don't know, Speed is an extremely well credentialled senior sports administrator, with a very long and comprehensive CV in this area, after previously practicing as a Barrister.

His insights are enlightening, calm and realistic.  Journos would do well to listen to this man who knows what he's talking about, rather than spewing their own editorial opinion.

I'd rather Disco stay as a Forward option and Petty drop back into the backline and form the much vaunted Bermuda triangle with May and Lever.

Disco kicks truely for goal and can always swing back if need be.

Don't mind that either, but if Jeffo comes on someone will need to make way

Who is he the upgrade on in our forward line. I'm not saying he is a bad player, I like him and he is in accurate enough kick for goal. But where does he fit, as he wouldn't be swapping to another team just to play in the VFL.

If we are interested in Membrey, it suggests we lack confidence in Jefferson, McAdam, or the others to take that next step next year.

Whilst our forward line was not great, and not pretending it is, however when Melk came back later in the year I thought, Turner, JVR, Fritter, and Petty started to work things out between them. We lack a crumbing small option when Kozzy isn't up there. I don't know if we lack for medium forwards.

The benefit of Membrey is he's actually a forward. Petty and Turner are both backmen being retooled. They have shown glimpses and may get there but are not natural forwards.

If Jefferson comes on, a combination of JVR, Jefferson and Membrey with Fritsch, Pickett and Chandler could be something.

Petty and Disco can settle in the backline easy enough.

Seriously? He was cheap depth, traded for a future 3rd-rounder.

    Agree.

We'd recruited half a dozen blokes in their prime on big money/long terms deals before the flag, then had marquee premiership players to contract long term after.

We just haven't didn't have the cap space 2022/23 to bring in big names on big money. We were forced to moneyball it.

FWIW I actually thought Hunter was pretty good in 22 and not terrible for the first half of 23.
