I'd love to see Ephram play full-forward for the Demons. He is without a doubt the Jason Dunstall of Northern Territory footy. They said the same things about Dunstall and Lockett. If they rejected those guys, the AFL woud be without the tonne a year full-forwards they became famous for. Sadly they do these days and the competition is worse off for it. While Dean Rioli, another Tiwi, was often the butt of weight jokes, he was truly a champion player. You shouldn't need a figure like Anthony Koutoufides just to succeed at the top level. Too much AFL emphasis these days is on height and athleticism rather than footy smarts and ability.
What is truly inspiring is that Aussie is not even the best Tiwi player out there.
Sure, he is one of the best 18 year old Tiwis, but there is some serious talent up there.
Problem for the recruiters is that it is difficult to determine most of their ages. The playing sheets don't mention their DOB. Aussie had a lot of exposure simply because he was part of the NT Under 18s team. But before now there hasn't really been a traditional pathway for these kids. I'm sure there are plenty of guys who could easily fit into AFL rookie lists.
I'd encourage anyone who hasn't to visit Bathurst Island in March to see the TIFL Grand Final. It is an experience you'll never forget.
