With $27m in the bank, from the sale of assets he pushed his Board to acquire and after stopping a merger and tipping in $2.7m of his own, the biggest single donation to the club ever.

    Show a bit of gratitude.

    Gratitude to a point.
but talk to any Board Member who was in the Gutnick era. There was no debate or discussion. It was Joe or else.
we should have taken the Olympic Center….

    Joe was wrong

Cash Reserves of $10mill approx. is in the article, I am certain.

Put away your microscope and please delete that ridiculous and shameful Cutoff Hawk that has no place in the Melbourne Club logos. It brings many fans heartache and sadness of a previous era. It is completely irrelevant and adds nothing to your posts. You

$10 Million running costs sounds reasonable to me for a year. But Hawk the Troll is not looking for reason

Based on my, admittedly infrequent listening to SEN, I would the rate the ads as more entertaining and informative than the commentators/broadcasters.

They do have some very strange humans behind the microphone at times.

  4. It’s just sad that his time, was the wrong time. The Club was a mess, searching for an identity.
if he was on our list now, he would be a very big and creative cog forward of Centre.
i was always sad it just didn’t work out.

You think he acted alone without the Board.

It was 90% actually, $2.7m of $3m, still the biggest single donation ever given to the club.

What revenue streams back then, would have got us the $30m approx he left us, for Bentleigh and Oakleigh, plus his $2.7m.

What have the last few Boards added to what he left us?

He may not have been the President I personally wanted, but his contribution to the MFC was huge, in addition to helping save the club from a  merger, which would have seen a different club today.

Yes Joe acted alone. That was the main problem. There was no debate or discussion.
i am not disputing he didn’t help save the club from merging.
I think you underestimate what could have been done if Members and influential Supporters had been called to arms at the time.
It was Joe’s way or else, and that became a great hindrance sadly

    Unbelievable.

The guy got us 2 facilities we sold for millions, I think in the order of $30m and personally threw in $2.7m of his own and you are having a go at him, for not begging the members for money, for a facility, that several previous and post MFC Boards have promised and to this point have failed to deliver.

    Wow!

He threw in about 80% of what he originally pledged. The last couple of payments were very tough to receive.
We were offered a Training Facility in a Prime Spot and Joe turned it down without any discussion or debate.
So yes i am having a go at him, as i have said before Revenue Streams could, and should have been set up. We were at The Junction Oval at that stage, that place was a complete Health Hazard

Read every single word at the top of every page and respect this difficult decision. You aren’t the one with your [censored] on the line.

I am just asking a question, not starting an argument

if the Radio interview had not taken place, I fully understand your position

Obviously not. Otherwise he’d be lawyering up every five minutes.

Come on M, you of all people should know that’s an entirely different thing (given your background of working in the media).

Once everything is in the public domain, the dynamics change. I find it interesting there is no discussion allowed considering Goodwin and Pert were interviewed on Radio…

I think a little reminder is in order…

    Thank you, mods.

Thank you for the many, many hours you put into this site whilst juggling full-time jobs, families and interests other than footy. Thank you for covering the costs of running the site that ads and subscriptions alone don't quite cover. Thank you for never taking a break: 365 days a year for two decades. Thank you for providing such an informative, interesting and fun space for Dees diehards to talk about the greatest football club in the world.

To the folks who clearly need reminding that there’s certain things that can’t be discussed on DL… If that’s a problem for you, perhaps you can find *another footy forum, one wherein it’s open slather, and anything goes.

What you SHOULDN’T do is create a new thread just to bemoan the censorship. Nor should you mock DL in snide remarks strewn about in other threads. Andy is the one who can and will be sued should something that “crosses the line” be published, even though it’s not him who said it.

*good luck finding another footy forum that comes anywhere near the standard of this one.

edit: I just saw the updated notice that appears above the topics list. Hopefully this time folks read it properly.

Can Kane Cornes be Sued? He spends his entire shift discussing the Current MFC issues

    Wrong.

He had already put up a couple of Million dollars to stop the club going broke.  The club had no money and it was too much to expect him to stump up more.  Without him the club would have folded.

I never said he should pay for the Facilities.
But he made no effort to create any revenue streams to make it possible.

I worked with a board member at the time, so i was given some first hand info regularly, We could have raised money for the Lexus Complex and should have. Too late now….

Would you have rathered that we merged?

For all of Gutnick's short-comings, and there were quite a few towards the end, he at least led the anti-merger campaign to victory.

This was a totally separate issue.
Gutnick made no effort to engage with Members to raise any revenue for a Training Facility. He just flatly said, we can’t afford that

And 20+ years later we are still paying for that atrocious decision

  12. That interview this morning was almost unlistenable. The amount of ads Played in each break was outrageous!! In the old days there was a limit of 6 advertisements per break, that law obviously doesn’t exist anymore

I forgot that to finish second on the ladder you must win at the NT.

I couldn't have been the 4 point loss to Port? The loss to Essendon in Adelaide? 7 points to Freo at the G? 2 goals to the Cats? 4 points to the Blues?

Nope. It was specifically the NT game. We'll ignore the fact that we won 5 on the trot following it. It's the NT game and the travel.

I for one quite like the game and what the club does around it. I'd be disappointed if they stopped.

Good for you. I would rather the Game was at The ‘G

A few passages from the article without copying the entire story.

Demons coach Simon Goodwin’s quick thinking has saved a man’s life in Bali, coming to the rescue after the man dislocated his shoulder. Goodwin was in Bali after the end of the AFL season and surfing with mates including 1993 premiership winner Rick Olarenshaw on the island of Nusa Ceningan. The Herald Sun reported that a young man jumped off a cliff into the water but dislocated his shoulder. The Demons coach rushed over to the man and dragged him onto the surfboard and took him to safety beyond the break. Goodwin then flagged down a passing jet ski and helped the man onto it to get him to safety. The father jumped in the water to help his son, and recognised Goody and started talking footy. Goody’s response was let’s save his son first then chat about footy later. Goody showed a lot less bravery when a sea snake came across his path.

    Dislocated shoulder hitting the water!!!

That would be a viscous way to go
