I agree, but for the life of me l can’t work out what the game plan is.

We chip it around in the backline trying to get some space but turn it over through the middle or still bomb it into the forward line

Because we are not spreading enough into space

Good teams can do it for 4 Quarters

I remember Goodwin saying he believed we have a team to challenge the very best. For me that means Top 8 to Top 4.

There would be alarm bells going.

With Langford and Lindsay coming in, the Club is expecting September action

This is not the start they wanted

    Goodwin must make changes

It's genuinely shocking that we're miles worse with Trac and Oliver back into the side. Every Melbourne supporter pinned their hopes on these two.

My expectation was 11th -14th due to our forward line on paper. So I'm not shocked we're going to miss finals. I am shocked about how bad we could potentially be this year, and how bad our talented players such as Gawn, JVR, Fritsch, May and Viney have been. If these players can lift to somewhere near their average, then we'll start winning a game or 2.

I don’t think the Players are mentally and physically fit enough to play the gameplan Goodwin wants.

Our Final Quarters have been uncompetitive

That is on the entire Football Department.

Such a shame we had to lose Burgess, i think that is a serious root cause to all this.

Selwyn needs to up his game…

To me the key problem is lack of running to create space.

Our players are always under the pump and you can't pinpoint passes in that scenario with any certainty.

Kicking a ball to a player in space is significantly easier

We also don't kick instinctively. Players stop, prop and its too late. That's confidence.

It doesn't explain the missed tackles, lack of talk and dropping of chest marks, handballing to players feet etc

Our Training methods and fitness are not good enough, the standards need to be lifted.

We do not spread and run, like top sides do automatically

And that then flows through the entire gameplan

I’ve never liked a Goodwin and I never will.

That said, he has had a few good coaching years and some bad, but the last few I’ve hated as you could see the way the game was trending and he still sat with a too tall, slow moving team and implemented a bland game of football. It’s like being forced to only eat boiled white rice for every meal because you have the constant runs.

This team, is bland, it’s boring and it favours a union rugby maul more than skill.

I pretty much never go to games anymore, it’s not worth the long drives and costs, and yeah I felt this way when we were winning, but the wins glossed over it a bit.

I’ve been a member for 30yrs and would attend 15+ games even during the Neeld years, but now I have zero care to go to a Melbourne game.

will we start winning games? Maybe. Do I think so… nope. I think 5 wins maximum this year.

Will we stay bland and boring. I reckon so.

Goodwin won’t see out the Season if this trend continues…

Yesterday the whole team fumbled and looked unsure about what to do with or without the ball. Clearly unsure about what this new game plan is.

Goal kicking aside, that's quite different that the 2023 finals series where we looked like a strong and confident team.

We were still very ordinary in the forward line.

    Nothing has changed

There is a significant % of Melbourne Fans who are going hard at the club and playing group after 3 games.

It's a long season and writing off 50% of the playing list, wanting the coach sacked, and just generally potting the club so early in the season is a no win situation.

Hawks started last year slowly, unsure about their new game style. Lions were slow starters too.

I don't think we're a contender, and probably not even a finals team this year, but I see far more to gain out of supporting the team as they navigate a change in game style, rather than the constant hand wringing and sooking.

Couldn't believe the Muppet on the DeeBreif calling for Adam Simpson to be our coach before the seasons end. Similarly the amount of people wanting Viney and TMac to retire is disgusting.

Keen to hear others thoughts on this. Surely there are still a few of us willing to support the team

This has been brewing a lot longer than 3 games in 2025

    We can’t score….

    2.9 at Halftime

All that energy expended for so little reward

Exactly the same as the 2 Finals in 2023

Adelaide looks good but defensively they will get found out in September. They score a bunch but also concede a lot.

But also... how did we let North kick 20 goals. Jfc.

We are the bottom Team right now…

  9. Watching the Croms game, it is very easy to see.

We are the worst and most dysfunctional Team in the League by a long way at the moment

Where is there at least some pride in our jumper??

  10. At halftime yesterday we were 2.9 in decent weather conditions

A score like that should be an outlier for every team, but for the MFC it happens regularly. That is the bottom line

Players work hard to get the ball into attack and then it is butchered by lazy forward craft. High energy for lousy returns

Heads will drop and opponents will go in for the kill. Since the GF we have continued to have a terrible conversion rate inside 50’s to Goals scored.

We all see it, but nothing changes

    How serious is training?

I really don’t care if players love each other or not. They are highly paid to do a tough hard job.

I think training and conditioning needs a full revamp

These players this year are not prepared for 3 hours work

This is on the Football Department, who i believe need to toughen up.

That doesn’t mean respect is lost

What we want to happen and what will actually happen are often poles apart

Richmond are a good example. For all their feral support, they were non competitive for close on 35 years

It took people like Gale, Balme, Hardwick and others to get their club going until they finally achieved success

And the success they achieved was not something their supporters even expected after decades in the wilderness

And then from nowhere, 3 flags in 4 years

So in many ways, we get what we are given

As previously stated, if things don't improve, the coach will get the flick

The flag gets Goodwin more time as does his overall W/L record along with finals participation in 2018, 2022 & 2023.

And even if he is sacked in season, I don't expect any sort of improvement with a caretaker coach.

The sport is too professional these days for someone to just come in and turn things around with a magic wand

Our issues run deep and to able to implement a totally new game will not just need the right coach, but the right types of talented, coachable players

I don’t expect things to turn around immediately, but I don’t think keeping Goodwin on as Coach for the next 20 weeks will do anything, except make things worse than what they are now. We have just been thrashed by 2 sides who we “should” have beaten

It gets tougher from now on….

The question is not about your view (or my view) on whether Goodwin stays or goes

It's out of hands and in the clubs hands

I've always felt that our opinions mean nothing to clubs ... they are going to do what they are going to do

All we can hope for is that the club can make good decisions as we are powerless to change things ourselves

All our words have no impact. They are just words

But if things don't improve, they'll sack Goodwin. But when?

Tonight would be the right thing to do

Jeeelong next Friday is not worth thinking about

  13. 12 minutes ago, Macca said:

    Haha!

As for whether Voss & Carlton is the bigger story, I'm not so sure after today

I honestly thought we'd redeem ourselves today, but a 10 goal loss?

Our ball movement is just soooooo slow

The whole squad needs to be reprogrammed but to change in such a dramatic fashion requires a total buy-in

And the plan has to make sense as well

New plan with a total buy-in probably requires a new voice but is the club going to cut ties with the coach in season?

I can't see us doing it again but we did so with Balme, Daniher, Bailey & Neeld

So we've got form in the in-season sacking dept.

I don’t think we can afford to wait another 20 weeks of our current system

    It’s completely busted

    Goodwin presser:

Goodwin still believes Melbourne can recover from a winless start to 2025, but acknowledged the Demons have to fix their fundamentals after being soundly beaten in the contest (-18), clearance (-16) and in territory, losing the inside 50 count by 25.

"We are three weeks in and we acknowledge where we sit right now isn't where we want to be. It's not the level. We need to fix it," Goodwin said.

"We've got to get to work. We acknowledge that we've got too many players at the moment that aren't in the form they need to be in.

"As coaches we need to fix that. We need to help them. We need to get them in form. That's the first step to fixing your fundamentals. You could see the basics of the game weren't to the standard required.

"We got punished by a team playing really strong footy. They look like they are full of confidence and are playing the right way. That's where we want to be. I certainly feel we have the potential to be there."

The sad part of this presser is that Goodwin really believes what he is saying. He is a genuine guy.

The main problem is he needs to be Coached

For Simon it is 100% Defensive

People on here wer saying it in ‘22 even when we we winning (ugly)

We were very good at restricting opposition scores, but we very rarely scored heavily.

It’s been a slow burn ever since

I'd question that, there are too many variables. Starting inside the club, and how much the FD and Board would hold Goodwin responsible. Also, there's the longer term to be considered: there's an argument that it's never good to bring in a new coach with a team that's bottoming out. Better the old coach stay on until things stabilise and then make the change, e.g. Clarkson/Mitchell at Hawthorn. What Yze is going through at Richmond isn't good for anyone, he came in at least one season too early.

But I don't think it'll come to that, in spite of plenty of evidence to the contrary. I think that once we get more players back and the team stabilised and used to a new way of playing, things will start to look up later in the season. I could be wrong ...

    Goodwin won’t last this situation

    He has hit the wall

    opinion or inside intel?

Surely part of the off season review would have established some key KPI's and milestones for Goody who was given another chance where one should not have been given.

we will be 0-4. If we lose to Bumbers, which is a 50/50 proposition at the moment, we will be 0-6 as Freo awaits us the week after. If that scenario does come to pass and we dont sack him, then we deserve what we get.

    My opinion at this stage

But i do know the situation has been talked about since last year…
