    Things are moving with the new CEO, i don’t know any exact details, but he is definitely fully involved.

    Yes. I think Goodwin should have been terminated after losing 4 Finals on the MCG.

    The writing was on the board back then and NOTHING has changed. We are still Coached in the same manner. Multiple Forward Entries (Hack and Hope) for a low percentage scoring return.

    And that will continue through next year if Goodwin remains

    We won the Flag in ‘21 because Burgess had the entire list Super fit, and the Players believed in themselves. We won many games kicking big scores in the 2nd Half after opponents were fatigued (broken)

    Since Burgess left we have not been at that fitness level, 1-2% off, so we become fatigued.

    Last year’s game against Meth Coke told the story, there was no resistance.

    You probably saw it live.

    A comparison between Scott and Goodwin is not warranted, Jeeelong have not bottomed out anything like the MFC.

    Bad Mistake to not have a new Caching staff Round 1 2024, considering all the off field [censored] that went on during 2023.

    But Goodwin was extended before the ‘23 Finals Series

    4) As a heavy consumer of AFL games (not just MFC games) I think it would be an exciting addition to the football calendar, having 2 stand alone games with a heap at stake.

    Teams 10-18 are out of the Finals race, simply because they are not good enough for a myriad of reasons.

    It is up to those Clubs to get better in the off season (Ourselves included)

    Teams that make it to prelims have a group of extremely strong A-graders complemented by good B-graders and a group of dependable... 'role players', 'third tier' players, 'non-stars'... call them what you want who do enough. And when that dependability wanes (ideally in only a couple of players), they have solid replacements in the VFL ready to go.

    Carlton is the gold standard in the opposite of this. Weitering, Cripps, De Koning and Curnow... spines don't get much better. And they have some pretty good players on the next rung down - McKay, Walsh, Cerra, Saad, etc. But the list falls off a cliff at about 12 or 15. You might argue that all players below a certain level are balancing on the precipice of 'good enough' and it's basically all psychological for them. I'm not so sure. I think there's a huge difference in the skill and overall quality of these not-first-picked players and mental toughness is just one of many many variables. The better teams simply have better players further down their list...

    ...and, of course, as others have said, many other factors come into play. Injury, coaching, little bits of good and bad luck, game trends, etc.

    My huge concern with Melbourne is that we're not even in the also-rans category anymore because our A- and B-graders are either a little bit below their best (Petracca) or an absolute mile off it (Oliver, May, Fritsch, Lever, Rivers, Viney, Salem). And even if we were - Brisbane and Collingwood shows we're still capable of being competitive against good teams - the VFL cupboard is almost completely bare.

    I like the all-above-the-head theory because it means there's a chance we can return to finals soon. Next year, maybe. I want it to be true. I just don't think it is. I think the problem is much more structural than psychological.

    I think it’s a combination of all of the above, but i seriously think psychology is the major factor between Top Sides and also rans.

    All AFL Players are fit, some can push harder than others and then some can be pushed harder by a good coach to levels they didn’t think they could reach

    Jeeelong have been up since 2007, yep they take a dip, but bounce straight up again.

    Losing a PF is not a disasterous Season

    Jeeelong have never finished below 10th since 2007

    I don’t know all the answers mate, but the difference between the Top Clubs and the rest is mostly psychological.

    In 2021 Darren Burgess had the MFC Super fit. and you could see the players genuinely believed they were the best. We so often smashed teams in the 4th Quarter.

    That is all but gone now, although we did beat the Premier Team up there and took the Filth right to the line, but they cannot sustain it weekly, which you have to do to win Cups

    I don't like it necessarily but they'll give him the rest of this season and next to really implement the changes, which has been pretty obviously indicated. Its been noted by many that swinging larger gameplans changes especially dramatically offense wise isn't something you can suddently fix or get right in a single off season (yes yes should have happened earlier) so we've been commended by decent media heads for adapting/learning the new faster gameplan on the fly which is working in patches.

    Seems like the playing group still trusts and respects him so they're not going to blow it up for the sake of it just yet.

    Whether we like it or not he's not going anywhere anytime soon. But fine with people venting about it as the ol tradition when its not going great.

    I still feel like our fitness is the concern with us dropping off in games more then we used to with energy/effort. That was always our staple over the last four or so years.

    No it’s not fitness as such. Last week proved that. After a bye, we were served up that rubbish.

    It’s 90% above the shoulders. These guys can play at a high level, they just don’t feel like giving that extra 1-2% that the Top 4 Teams do regularly

    That has got to come back to the Coach when it is across the whole team

    Goodwin had been worked out by opposition Coaches, it has only become more obvious since then

    A new Coaching Panel could still get Maximum value out of this list (with some changes to personnel)

    The players can still play at a very high standard, but that standard is not the accepted level it is at other Clubs.

    Look at Jeeelong, after the ‘21 PF.. They were demolished that night, but they went away and got better and that is their standard

    Rivers could be a great midfielder, if he REALLY wants to be one. Personally i think the internal Party Goers of ‘22-‘23 have left a black mark on our Football Department.

    We need a Clean Slate and a Head Coach who demands Respect

    I am not blaming Coaches, because they have probably been pumping up the whole side for at least 90 minutes, but like Sunday in the first quarter, the whole 22 gave such a small response. Not 1 or 2 players, i can understand that, but when the whole side is flat. How does that occur?

    It has to be psychological, we need to improve massively in this area

    Jeeelong & the Filth have been doing it for decades, it’s expected, as it should be. But for the MFC it’s always been very sporadic.

    The Whole Club needs a line in the sand. After 2021 i thought this had been sorted, but too many went into party mode and now the Mojo has gone

    Losing Gus Brayshaw was a massive hit, but it should never have taken the whole Club down

    There has to be some serious fight shown in these last 8 weeks or else the MFC will be irrelevant once again
..
