  1. If my club relocated / merged / folded, I would walk away from footy in all forms, and never watch it again.

You don't support a club like ours for decades without having an emotional attachment to the club, and I'd be shattered if anything happened to the MFC.

In my mind, there is no AFL unless the MFC is in it!

I Agree and feel exactly the same way. I would go to the G for the odd game but not care who wins-Bit like the I P L Cricket i watched over the weekend!!

  2. I support The Melbourne Demons who play Home games at the M C G. Fxck North Melbourne and Fxck the Gold Coast. I will support no one if Melbourne Demons are no more. I saw Stan Alves and "Crackers" Keenan win a Flag for North in '77 with Barassi as coach and it's always [censored] me off. I could never support the Kangaroos the same way i could never support the Hawks in '96. Simple

Fine Nugget But read this Carefully. Never ask me to Barrack for anything except the M F C. I will actually barrack for each team that plays against the GC Demons ok. I was at the Dallas Brooks Hall in '96, and i willnever believe that the Melbourne members voted for that Merger. Our votes were Played with like George Bush's Campaign in Florida in 2000. QED

  3. Once again I am told we have bigger problems. You may be right. However, I would like to know he is watching the coaches pre-game to see how they are performing. He cannot do that while he is standing out on the ground. Just my opinion - at least I am not bagging young players like Frawley and Garland like some other people do here.

Conolly is with the coaches all week. To have him do a bit of spruiking on match day is fine. ime sure he goes straight up to the coaches box when its done. We have much bigger issues to concern ourselves with right now. At least we dont have a hovercraft like Hawthorn did!!

  5. Maybe we need to almost die to save the club.

We have 10 000 members from last year that have not signed up, we still have not recovered from the years of mediocrity from 65 - 87, and there remain fractures from the merger business 12 years ago.

Hawthorn came together and we just became indifferent to the problems or ignored them.

I think we need a ratcheting up of pressure to make those that are ambivalent to realise that we need them to come back to the club.

We won't die, but we won't thrive until we get everyone back.

So if it gives some a kick up the arse, keep writing them Caro.

PS. The club should email this article to every 2007 member that didn't re-sign.

i agree these things need to be said. No more hiding the true sad facts. Get 'em out there and lets work it out

  6. That's no beat up. Sadly it's the truth we haven't been told about. Not always a fan of the Wilson pen,but i am glad she wrote this one. The Band aids that have held this club together for over 40 years have given way. We will either get strong again or die...stay tuned..

  7. Noel Leary-Took over the number 29 jumper from Hassa Man......

Can't agree with the Ricky Jackson call or Stan Alves but the simon eishold '87 Prelim kick for goal still makes my head shudder!!! But i am sure he has paid for his sins over the years.

  8. I Agree with what Trav has too say. It's easy to dismiss it as sour grapes-but i don't. Our Facilities or lack of them have cost us. I mean in the "Good old days" we owned the MCG as our training base-we don't anymore. So maybe Trav's comments will be taken seriously by certain peaople.

  9. I think thats a pretty fair question.. I can see that maybe he doesnt want the chief job... but a board position I would think a natural ...perhaps.

    good question.

G Lyon is a country Boy who played Footy. He's not a chairman. Put Him and stynesy on the board along with the Football Dept. Ron Walker as Chairman. Maybe we could get some $$$ from Bernie Ecclestone! Send him a scarf Brilliant!!!

  10. Even if he never reaches the heights he promises, he will still have a very long AFL career and have some damn fine moments along the way

    If Colin stays fit -

At best, he could be as good as Michael Voss or Mark Ricciuto

At worst, he will be a Matthew Robbins/Martin Pike type player. Hardly a superstar, but a player that will carve out a niche and be an important cog in his teams side.

By the way, I think he will be a lot closer to the Voss/Ricciuto end of the spectrum

That is the most Ridiculous post i have read. At present Colin Sylvia has achieved nothing. Harsh call but true. Martin Pike has 4 Flags to his name and your are calling him a "Bad" player?? Get real. What does col Promise? Too much going out with Alan Didak for my liking

Far as i am concerned its "Put up or Shut up" this year for the Pretty Boy Colin

  11. Schwarta said he was selecting the dogs to win this week whilst adding that his heart was always with Melbourne.

I sat with schwarta's mum a few times in the early 90's His heart deep down will always be red and blue. At present he is working in the media and part time for the dogs so i say let it be. After 3 knee reco's The demons looked after the ox, he's ok.

  12. I think the boat has well and truly left port on that one. Not only has there been tension between the two entities for decades but I would imagine they would have no interest in doing so anyway. MCC members will always be MCC members regardless if the Melbourne Football Club exists or not.

But I take your point Rhino. The MFC is the MCC in its orgins but of course our ties are severed beyond repair. I often wonder what our club would be like if the MCC ran the show. We would be a powerhouse club, no doubt about it. Can you imagine $400 per person going straight to the club?

Don't give up hope just yet. Maybe our New C.E.O can have a good chat to the MCC. I would love part of my MCC money to go straight to melbourne.

I would make that priority no. 1 if Macnamee wants to market our brand.

  13. Who are we going to merge with? The Kangaroos have made it quite clear they aren't interested, and would rather die in Victoria than move interstate.

I agree Ime just stating what i heard. I would never support a diluted club. If the Kangaroos dont sort out there shareholders stakes, they may not have a choice
