  1. I get almost as much joy watching Joffa`s face during a Collingwood pasting as I do a Melbourne win!

Wasn't that Cutaway Shot of Joffa in the Last Q just pure Gold!! But i did admire the way the players gave Robert Harvey the Guard of Honour, after a loss that took some courage. Collingwood losses i do love such things!

  2. Hi all,

I'm just curious, since I missed out on the 90's having only been properly introduced to AFL around 2000 (lucky charm, I was), with all this hype about Franklin and so on, I had a look back and noticed that David Schwartz closed in on 3 goals a game, and managed 15 brownlow votes playing alongside Garry Lyon in 1994, which was also the season he played just his 50th game.

Then there were two (Three?) knee reconstructions in rapid succession, and he never got back to that level, is what I understand happened.

Anyone care to fill in some details? Some nostalgia to pass on, memories of the days when...

We were a real chance to win a Flag in '95-Make no mistake. The Ox did his Knee during Pre-Season on a Bodgy Ground near the Junction oval. I just remember being Gutted.

the Team didn't make the Finals. Carltank "won" the flag. (Their means of winning are always questionable) Neil Balme would have been so frustrated. The ox would have Rivalled Carey & Glen Jakovich, i have no doubt.

The Fact he came back after 3 Reco's Puts him into Legend Status

  3. No more Sydney home finals: Demetriou by The Great Pretender at ANZ Stadium

An angry AFL Chief Executive Andrew Demetriou has lashed out at supporters of the Sydney Swans who stayed away from their team's Elimination Final clash at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.

He told reporters after the game in which the Swans overran North Melbourne with a stunning eight-goal blitz in the third term to set up a 17.8 (110) to 11.9 (75) victory that the attendance of 19,127 was simply "not acceptable for an AFL final" and that the AFL would not play a final in Sydney again after such a "pathetic response from the Sydney football public."

"This was a crunch final for the home side and the fact that their supporters stayed away indicates they are not interested in finals football up here."

Demetriou stopped short of agreeing that future Swans finals could be played at Carrara to pomote the new no name Gold Coast team but he did indicate that the AFL might do some more homework on the future West Sydney Football Club as a result of the poor attendance figure. He discounted claims that the typical Sydney weather of three days of sleet and driving rain had anything to do with the poor attendance.

Demtrious was also angry at reports that North Melbourne had "tanked" their last three games to secure the coveted number 9 draft pick.

    - with AAAP

Nice Piece of Humour that obviously went way over most peoples heads (The best Kind) Cheers GP

  4. Essendon screwing over Collingwood. Must have been an accident... haha a whole other different form of tanking.

From memory there was a Spurs Man U game some years ago where if Man u won they would deny Arsenal the championship, Man U scored and Spurs fans cheered

I Follow the Gunners & I certainlly Hate Man U. The Collingwood of the EPL.

The Day Alex Ferguson threw a Boot at Beckham after losing to Arsenal made me feel all warm inside. Death is too good for Manchester United!!!!!

  5. Bring Back the Final Five. Team That Finishes Top gets a Rest. Three & Four get Double Chance. Four & Five are on the Knife edge. The way it should be

I am still Filthy that MFC beat adelaide week 1 of '98 by 10 Goals & then went on to win the Flag. They Should have been eliminated. Bastards!!

  6. How bout his Goal out at Waverly against Hawthorn in the Rain. 2000 i think. Ran Half the Field. I hope the Wiz visits Mellbourne again in time. Deep Down I know he is still a Demon. I always gave it to him when he played t the 'G in a shockers Jumper! only because i always wanted him to be a one Club Man. The Demon Flag on Canterbury Road was Hung in Honour of the Wiz. When he left that Family went into Mourning!!

  7. this is my reply to the email I sent today....

We appreciate your feedback regarding MELBOURNEfc's uniform. MELBOURNEfc experimented with some colours to create a uniform appearance in the early years of its existence. A distinctive white outfit was used, which led to one of the Club's earliest nicknames - 'Invincible Whites'. This made way for red and blue in the 1870s, but still has an important place in the Melbourne Football Club's earliest history and cultural background.

Clash jumpers are in place to ensure that there is clear differentiation between the teams to benefit the players, the spectators, the officials, and the broadcast and media partners amongst others. A ‘main’ playing uniform and an ‘alternate’ playing uniform are mandatory for all Clubs as stipulated by the AFL.

The other criteria enforced by the AFL surround the length of time a jumper must be used and it's colouring. Dark playing strips need a light coloured alternative, as in the case of our silver jumpers and an "alternate" jumper must also be used for a minimum of two years. Unfortunately, the AFL will not allow Red to be the predominant colour. The AFL have determined that the MELBOURNEfc home strip clashes with Brisbane, St Kilda, Essendon, Fremantle and Carlton. This clash occurs mainly due to the dark back of our jumper and those of the clubs listed.

That Response Looks Like it was Written by the AFL (Adrain Amnderson) That is Pathetic-Keep Fighting We are Red & Blue not Footscray..

As i said in another link- Isn't it Fascinating that Sydney never wear a Clash Strip or white Shorts Hmmmmmm

  8. That is the point! Red used to be ok but now it is not! Why AFL? and why does essendon or adelaide not need to come up with a white alternative???

Keep fighting the good fight belzebub!

Totally Agree-We must stand up for our colours otherwise the club will always be a Push over. Funny How the SYDNEY SWANS (AFL Love CHhild) Don't wear a clash strip or white shorts EVER Grrr.

Ime still dark that Barry Hall played in the 2005 Grand Final!!! A guilty Man...

  9. I expect a big improvement next year. I think Bails & Co will have a Huge Pre-season ready to start on October 13. Remember our coach started after the Draft last year. New Fitness People have been assigned. Cam Schwabb will certainly start the Off Field Processes. I am Concerned Mostly about a Major Sponsor & Better Stadium deals. These Must Be sorted. Sheahen told me nothing we all weren't aware of. 2008 was a Train Wreck that we had to have. It's over, good lets move on

  10. WYL,

if you're that keen to help change the MFC culture, as i believe you are, may i suggest writing to the club about our new clash design strip.

I'm not sure what you think about it, but personally i cannot see how our club can establish itself as a powerful and proud club if we so easily give into AFL requests and turn against our proud history.

Perhaps we would not win the fight, but i feel it would be worth fighting for. To help establish ourselves again as a club that stands for something and will not only respect it's own past, but be strong enough to determine our own future

You are right 45 My opinion of both those "away" strips is utter contempt! Both of them are predominantly WHITE. We are not Footscray. We as a clubmust become financially stable so as The AFL cannot just push us around. At present we are on the AFL Drip feed-It must stop. I shall be ringing the club tonight!!! ..........Grrrr

  11. This Club will not Die. This Club is actually being Re-Born. & as the Saying Goes "You Gotta go to Hell Before You Get To Heaven" After Norm Smith was Sacked this club lost its Mojo (Spirit, whatever you want to call it) & i think all that is finally coming Back. The MCG is our Home and The Demons will fill the old Girl again. Fortunes in Footy can Turn Around Quickly. We don't all Drive Range Rovers & Ski, in fact most of us obver the past 44 years have just Seethed Quietly as we have Been Pushed Around. No F!@#$%cking More. The Demon Hath Returned. We Share the Name of this City with Pride.....

  12. From the weekly VFL (reserves in this case) review...this got me excited!

    Jack Grimes

Jack had an outstanding game, collecting 30 possessions off half back and in the midfield. His ball use and decision making under pressure was really good. He showed good skills overhead, and took some good strong contested marks. He is continuing to get his game time up, and played around 85%. Jack looks just about ready to play, and he will be pushing really hard for senior selection this week.

I think this is probably the best review we get each week...great work from andy lovell

I really want Jack "Frank" Grimes to be one of the Elite Guns of the AFL in Future years-Part of the resurgence of the MFC to its true place of Power & Envy.

  13. Great afternoon, and plenty more cash raised to boot. 2 more foundation heroes unearthed, one of which was Ricky Jackson. Another round of donations was asked for and they did the last man standing thing again. Probably 2/3rds of the room gave another $250, many were still standing at $500, Bails amongst others sat down ay $1000, Schwabby dipped out at $1500 and I think Barass (could be wrong, had a few too many ales). Fantastic effort by everyone! Cheers!

That's just superb. This Debt shall be erased by next season at this rate. And Demon supporters are percieved to have no passion.....INDEED

  14. I totally agree!

Jimmy Stynes played 244 games IN A ROW for the Melbourne Demons and he is now showing the same doggedness and persistency as the President as he did as a player.

Let's hope all the hard-work pays off and instead of winning a brownlow as a player he is able to help the MFC to not only survive but thrive and finally break the drought and WIN an AFL Premiership in the next few years.

GO DEMONS AND GO JIMMY STYNES! ^_^

We have secured the right CEO for the job needed. That whole Mateship Garbage was invented by the Press. August 2008 has been a great Month for this club

  15. No surprise. Absolute crock of shite. Stynes and his mates have had this up their sleeve for months. Bloody hell I hope they know what they are doing. This bloke has been in charge of the Tigers (enough said), sent us over the cap and Fremantle are the whipping boy of the competition. Don't be fooled by the change in financial position for Freo. Anyone could turn a football club around in that economic climate. Cashed up companies looking for sponsorship and corporate entertainment.

What the Hell are you Talking about???? Freo were $8 mill in Debt when Schwabb took over 8 Mill. Now as a Business they are number 3 in the AFL. Schwabb is a very smart man, & i for one am stoked he has returned. Stynes said yesterday he had not spoken to Cameron in 10 years-I believe him. Who cares anyway-That Mateship thing was a media Beatup. Obviously Chris Conolly & Schwabb work well together-GOOD!! What we want is Business Harmony. Everybody working in the Same direction.

When our new CEO signs up new Sponsorships & Deals over the next Month I shall be reminding you of this thread & asking whether you would have done a better job. Which i doubt......

  16. Last Saturdays game totally summed up our lack of culture at present. How Much work Stynes Shwabb and all of us have in front of us. I didnt expect to win, but i did expect a bit of a fight. Yes we had half a side in, the rest being young Raw Players-but so did Port Power. And we as a club should have been on more equal terms on that oval. I was embarrassed & had to go for a walk.

That said yesterday I paid my MCC?MFC Membership for next year. I am optimistic but it truly is now or never. The days of the MFC being percieved as soft must Cease. I am very Happy to Have Cameron S back as CEO, what he has done to the Shockers off field is Remarkable.

  17. 45HG - a winning culture does not mean that a club is successful all the time. It will take its turn and run through the cycle as all clubs do. However, a club with a winning culture will always clearly understand where they are and make tough decisions to ensure that they get back to give them every opportunity to have another crack at a premiership. We have made the finals many times since 1987 and got smashed in two grand finals. Instead of coming back bigger, stronger, tougher and more determined we have faded away. A winning culture is uncompromising and only premiership success is real success. At the MFC making finals has been considered success. Half the competition make the finals - what a joke!

Take two interstate clubs - Port Adelaide and Adelaide. PA have a culture of success - no question. Their coach has said its what we do at Port Adelaide - we win grand finals. Sure they graciously took our grand final defeat record off us but they have already one won premiership after only a few years in the competition.

Adelaide on the other hand have hardly ever bottomed out during their time in the AFL and they again do not accept mediocrity.

Carlton have a winning culture. They cheated the salary cap, they tanked to get good draft picks and lied about all of it. They are the LCT's! They have bottomed out but they do all of these things because they have an unrelenting passion to be the best.

WYL referred to the Hawthorn culture. They bottomed out and relentlessly pursued a youth policy and now it is paying dividends.

The North culture is an interesting one. They have the shinboner/working man/tough as nails/backs to the wall/underdog culture. They give full value for money at that club.

Essendon is obviously a very powerful club that again demands success.

All of those clubs referred to above have won 25 of the last 37 premierships.

45HG you ask how can Melbourne establish a good culture. It can't start from the supporters. We are a bunch of un-cordinated unrepresented individuals who love the club. It must start from the president down. Every external communication that comes from the club must be passionate, direct and unrelenting in its theme that we are proud, we hate our current situation and we WILL change it. The club must repeatedly send out that message. They must show leadership in making tough decisions (eg Jeff White sacking etc). They must no longer tolerate on field "lame" performances. We can get killed on the field but every single player must fight hard and be proud in defeat. They must have a huge work ethic to compensate for lack of ability. All of this comes from the top down.

As supporters we certainly can do our bit. We need to show our passion by turning up, financially assisting the club and supporting social events. And as we start to improve lets get ugly and lets get arrogant. We need to change the Range Rover, off to the snow image. We want other supporters to hate us because we are arrogant and have no time for anyone other than our team.

Thanks Pello what you have written is EXACTLY what i mean-i was at work last night & didn't have time to write such a long answer! Cheers
