  1. Re Casey: I'm very happy the way it's all progressing.

Travel? Pfft. I travel for 3 hrs round trip daily for work. Our players are not so precious and unprofessional as to jeapardise their careers because of travel. Commitment 'aint conditional.

Re FC: Chuckle. Well said TheVoice, I agree.

IMO, FC in general has been big on noise but small on substance for most of this year.

Caro is the consistant standout in and under performer.

Hutchison is the shadow boxing frustrated forward who can't hit his opponents let alone the scoreboard, but still manages to KO one of his own players.

Archer is the 16 yo rookie who's too shy to venture an opinion lest he soil himself.

Gazza is the outside captain who calls new guys and veterans to task for not adhering to the running sheet in his head.

  2. One in eight want Sundays.

One in thirty three want Sunday twilight.

    ...

One in a hundred (thousand?) want Monday games. (?)

Next years block-buster: Melbourne v Port @ AAMI, 6pm Monday night, fta delayed telecast 11pm, LIVE Fox. (?)

    (sorry :D)

  3. "I think that Jones was dropped because of his lack of pace, which could have been exploited by the Dons' speedy midfield if he'd been kept in the side." - Chook

Interesting. I also think that ("copping the most attention from other clubs through the middle" - Neita3000) has lowered his effectiveness & confidence, and has done some bodily damage as well. An opportunity to determinedly work back into the tempo will to wonders. On a semi related note, I'm becoming more and more impressed with our versatility even, as it is, in its infancy. DB on target.

  4. "I don't know where the $115,000 payout figure has come from but while Spargo is filling in, if this is an honorary role (does anyone know?) then we might save about that amount till the new CEO starts."

Fair enough. A statement to that effect would have been gloriously appropriate though, given the circumstances/timing, don't you think? Hindsight I guess. With that, I agree with those praising the move. I don't think PM could have hit the next group of milestones the club was aiming for - never mind those of the AFL.

  5. 'bell was ok and left his man - tarrant at times to get to the contest.'

Saw zero vision of the match, and as noted all over the radio commentary was abysmal, so am going with youami's call on the matchup. Tarrants stats:

    11K 2HB 6M 5T 1G 3B

  6. An interesting post from THE EQUALIZER here saying that the AFL have requested that clubs detail their wishes for the 11 home games. Somewhat cat and mouse given you have to predict the thoughts of the 15 other clubs, but history shines some light about. Thoughts? I'll post an attempt after dinner :)

  7. I was interested to compare Round 2 versus Round 15, for no purpose other than curiosity.

Really this is only the very top layer of info, but it should kick things off well enough if people want to delve further.

    Food for thought!

  8. How in the world are we losing so much money?

I didn't think our debt was 3 million before this year, and i don't understand how we'll lose a further 2 million this year. It's good it's being addressed though

In conjunction with whats already been said, I imagine that the turnover of such a high number of staff has contributed a significant amount. Cant see the club having budgeted for all the costs involved there.

Probably the least of our worries at the moment, but will it be the same Demon as before. Anyone got any inside info?

No inside info, but there is a thread of designs on demonology (http://demonology.midnight.net.au/Index.PHP?Mode=Forum&SubMode=DisplayPosts&MessageThreadID=26315&BoardType=0).

I am awaiting approval from an application there a few weeks ago, so can't post my 'designs'. Frustrating.

I was going to throw them here and ask that someone with dual access shift it for me, but probably should start a seperate thread for that. We do, IMO, need to be wary of overly complex and/or busy designs.

  9. Another sterling '08 performance.

My *only*, minor, criticism of Miller today would be that he gave off a couple of times into congestion rather than owning the goal attempt.

Brad Green - a guy that could've been earning serious money in soccer - bled the r&b.

For my mind, every Melbourne player stepped up to be counted as best they could.

The young guys, the four quarter effort.. Couldn't be happier for the boys.

  10. Perhaps we'll toss a ball and check what side it lands on to see who's right ? :)

You all are. The cattle isn't there. A winning culture is required. So are four quarters. Draft picks for the win (hopefully?). We have to be smart.

As a coach, Bailey is surely (I'm convinced) on the win what you can (read - aim for), consolidate (keyword), then aim higher mindset.

That, including tactical progression, is what it's all about. Kickins? Eh, they're the cherry on top, and a key to playmaking.

But we don't need to show our hand yet. Work it the hard way til you learn before finessing.

There are further fundamentals still to be worked on and worked into the youth.

On topic: Valenti in, Jamar out. Morton unlucky. Honourable loss.

Ed: WC is 4 points clear Rogue, but it's getting tighter

  11. what does total memberships mean ?? ....artful accounting ??

Total membership includes those members who have not purchased memberships that allow Match Day access. Melbourne has such packages available. (Edit: Or.. used to.)

  12. Interesting points in the for and against columns.

Cale will be a champion and has already shown some serious ability.

One thing to note: The roof was left open during the early afternoon so the heavy falling rain could complement the damage to the ground done by the friday and saturday games.

That said, his efficiency was extremely poor for (at least) the second week in a row. I dismayed myself by repeatedly groaning in anticipation of the assured momentum killing turn-over. When the chips are down and the team rallies, turn-overs like that are the hardest to shoulder.

If we were even aiming for 8th this year I'd say drop him back for a week - but we're not.

So as long as playing Cale doesn't deprive us and 'future player(s)' of deserving promotion, the early big league experience will put a lasting polish a true demon of a player.
