Yeah, we've really ridden our luck in executing the most important skill in the game better than pretty much every other team.

I'd suggest that a big reason for our high league average is that a significant number of our goals this year have been from getting out the back of other teams.  It's hard to miss from 1-10m out.  Watts has also contributed to the accuracy with his excellent kicking and number of goals.

... It was pure trash television.

Completely disagree.   There was self-promotion and, yes, Jacko wanted to whack Mike nationally.  Just like Mike did to Jacko, when he unnecessarily referenced personal tragedy when discussing a tribunal matter, and to footballers and coaches in general for 20 years.

Then there were valid discussion points made on the AFLs disregard for rural footballers and clubs, both financially and structurally (rule changes, athletic testing vs minor football testing). Also on the sycophantic nature of the medias relationship with The Gate-keeper, the declining accuracy in kicking shooting for goal, the declining ability to kick shoot with both feet, the sterilisation of personality and its impact on crowds / crowd involvement, etc ...

Trash TV is a show dedicated to the daily life of the family of the the daughter of the guy who successfully defended a guy who may or may not have killed a girl.

  3. It's funny, people assume an alignment that doesn't exist.  I've voted for every major party and most of the minor ones.

But, please, a promise of "never, ever, GST" that was "kept for his term" ... that is truly something I'll never understand.

  4. Eh.  Make false claims as to my first post and then ignore the thrust of the second.

Howard made PM in one election of the back of his never, ever, GST commitment only to ... GST.

Abbott made PM with his commitment to no changes to medicare only to attempt to co-opt the integrity of medicare.

Turnbull, well, he's pretty much made PM but, thankfully, is in no position to knife anything.  I wonder why that could be ...

They went to an election with the GST. It was hardly a secret!

Did I say it was a secret?  Oh, and which election are you referring to?

  6. I didn't have one major/minor party below the line and even had Hanson down at the end of the list.  Count me as one of the idiots - just like the LNP did.  I'd much rather Hanson asking questions that get slammed than having the LNP ram through anything they please.  Mediscare?  "Never, ever, GST".  "No changes to medicare".

  7. It is estimated that one billion people will die from tobacco smoking related illnesses this century.

The British and Australian governments were at the forefront of the fight against AIDS last century and used harm reduction as a very effective strategy.  Both countries continue to have one of the lowest AIDS infection rates in the world.  Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) falls squarely into the harm minimisation category.  Patches, gums, and e-cigarettes provide exponentially safer pathways to nicotine than combusting tobacco.  There are 4000 chemicals in one cigarette.  60+ carcinogens.

The Royal College of Physicians earlier this month published their 192 page paper - Nicotine without smoke: Tobacco harm reduction.which concludes with the recommendation that "..in the interests of public health it is important to promote the use of e-cigarettes, NRT and other non-tobacco nicotine products as widely as possible as a substitute for smoking in the UK"

So why would the Victorian government say today that cigarette bans and laws will apply to vaping?

Vaping has been established to be at least 95% safer than smoking.  Nicotine itself is toxic (in high concentrations, like many things) but it is not addictive without being delivered with the additional chemicals in cigarettes.

I have a stake in this 'game'.  I recently purchased a vaping device in an effort to quit smoking cigarettes for my health and the health of those around me.  After 23 years, nothing I'd previously tried had had any real effect.  Smoking to me was an all day affair and I'd easily go through 10-15 grams of rollable tobacco per day.

Eight days later and I'm down to two cigarettes a day.  By this time next week a expect to be at least a couple of days into being smoke free.

After this legislation comes into place, fewer people will consider choosing a smoke free alternative.  Vapers will be mandated to congregate with smokers and their second hand smoke, lessening their chances of staying smoke free.

I'd like to believe a thoughtful discussion could be had on the topic of tobacco harm minimisation.  What do you think?

  8. Is Jake in a position similar to where Max was at the very start of last season?  Building from injury, lacking a pre-season, but determined to make something of his best attributes and improve everywhere else.  I don't think Jake will play more than a couple of games in the heat of this year (maybe some at the tail) and believe they'll be as first ruck while we manage Max.   So perhaps this thread is a bit premature in relation to his ability to play the role now, but I do see him making his case very strongly for it next year if he gets through the entire pre-season.  Wouldn't be surprised at all if he gets the $50 (or $100 can't remember) 'most improved/determined/outstanding/etc' award at the post season camp.  It's make or break in 2017 for him.

Occasionally you see an umpire call "play on, you ducked your head" rather than a free kick being paid.

That was the call against Viney I believe during the Suns game.  (The problem was he was going in and down to get the ball and not trying to plow through players with the ball.)

I kind of understand the "btdt" attitude of those above, but he's been consistently in the Casey best all year, and apparently killed it this week playing on a HBF. Read the Plapp report, it was as glowing they come. And it just so happens, we have a HBF vacancy this weekend.

The guy has well and truly earned another shot. How about getting on board and showing some support?

    But the dream team?

    Balrick takes Darlings tunic?

    Oh.  Been there, done that.

    Grats Viv.

The reason people miss the start is that they turn up at 1.40pm for a 1.45pm start without tickets and expect to get a ticket straight away and be in their seat within 5 minutes. Just out of interest by the way Geelong have a 'home' game at Etihad this year

I've made it into that stadium on time once.  Each and every time I have arrived a minimum of 30 minutes before the bounce.  For round one 2014 myself and two friends arrived 45 minutes before the bounce ... and got in 5 minutes into the second quarter.

But apart from that, is there anything else about Foxtel that you don't like?

A long time ago on a Foxtel far far away the Rebels snuck the 'Chewy' code onto

the Foxtel remote, hiding it behind an innocuous red button.  Upon its use the

Empires loud, growling irrelevancies vanished - revealing the essence of

the Force!  Dearth Vlader was summoned by the new (s ltd) Emperor

and crippled, just for funsies, while the red button was re-coded.

Since that day the voices of Edwardo the Hut, Jar Jar Kingx,

and the little fat kid from Hey Dad drown out the Force,

echoing through time and spaaaaacee .............

Gee that was a strange coffee.

    Carn the Melbourne Demons!

Went with my grandson after he had his footy training this morning.

We arrived fairly late but he was thrilled to get a wave from Dom Tyson and James Harmes just as they were leaving.

Still cost a fair bit because I bought the young bloke a training jumper at the Demon Shop. Not cheap.

Saw a young fella down at the local shops today in a Melbourne clash jumper.  Hadn't seen that for a while.
