Changes Next Week v Western Bulldogs
Redleg replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I can't believe evryone is leaving Byrnes in their sides. Every possession he had other than his goal, thanks to Flash, was a turnover. Doesn't try and spoil if the ball is a bit high for him. Can't run. Insipid chasing. Offers nothing. If we pick him in a side, we are waving the white flag. -
If Spencer gets more weeks than Simpkin then.....
Redleg replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the only real challenges lie in a downgrading of high Impact to medium impact, in that he walked off the ground and had no broken bones or lacerations and secondly, that Spencer had no alternative as he couldn't tackle. He can also argue that he did not run at McEvoy and McEvoy fumbled, when he would have been expected to pick the ball up and stand up, McEvoy also lowered his head just before impact. Spencer could also argue clumsiness and due to his size inability to avoid contact. All that said, he would probably lose and cop the extra week. -

Challenge. Hodge said he couldn't avoid contact. Spencer due to his size and clumsiness is in the same position. I am reminded of the jawbreaker to Sylvia by Kennedy, where he got off. Broken jaw off the ball no penalty. -
I'll give it to you, from what I saw against the Bombers VFL side a few weeks ago. " The kid is very special ".

Wore the old scarf yesterday. It looked terrible.

"There's a strong argument," Gil McLachlan on a Priority Pick.
Redleg replied to PartyTimeJohnny's topic in Melbourne Demons
People need to understand, that getting a PP or other draft help, is not about deserving, previous drafting or anything else, other than recent performance. If you are crap you get help, no matter the reason. The AFL needs all teams to be at the least, competitive. Otherwise it costs the AFL and the clubs money. -
His name is on the cover, as co author with his wife.

Whoops!!!!!!!!!!

If Roos passes, Williams will jump at it, if we offer it to him.

Think I can sum it up pretty easily as follows, it is a book about a mare that won all her 25 starts and is the best sprinter, give or take Vain, that we have ever seen.

Have they been a bottom side for 7 years? Didn't they play in a Preliminary a few years ago. If they beat us twice they could be on a minimum 5 games and we possibly on 1-2. I know which side is worse. -
Just finished reading the book on Black Caviar by Gerard Whately, a very good read. Today I was in Chadstone shopping centre in the book shop and bought two books. One was the Master, the story of Bart Cummings, by the the greatest racing writer in the world, Les Carlyon. The second was a bit smaller and is called Life is Sport and Sport is Life, by Tami and Paul Roos. Thought it might be interesting.

I think we certainly deserve that.

What does pinned mean?

Pedersen is not in our best 28-30 and makes poor decisions. He is also not a very hard at it footballer. IMO he is a VFL footballer. I would never play Byrnes again. I watched him for a lot of the game. He doesn't even try and spoil if the kick is not directly to him. He is slow. He turned it over yesterday on nearly every possession he had. Reluctantly I would play him at Casey. As one of the other club's recruiters said, " he was struggling in the VFL last year".
-
Thanks Rod. PJ gives me hope. He is not about spin and tells it like it is. Imagine the courage to say none of the staff are in the top percentage of their area in the AFL. He is extremely articulate and convincing. Don't know how much he can achieve, but I don't think he will stop until he gets the maximum he can. Most importantly he has a willing partner in the AFL.

At least some good news, Jack Watts says he wants to stay a Demon and has instructed his manager to start discussions with us. Hopefully he re signs soon and then we can move on to some others we want to keep. Some other good news would be the retirement of Byrnes and maybe Pedersen.

Even better post.

Great post.

I must say that I was unaware that the Misson Foods CEO was a passionate Dees supporter, who wanted us to get the sponsorship and yet we lost it. That is very painful to read.

If Spencer gets more weeks than Simpkin then.....

It will be interesting to see how the MRP views this. Pros: No pace in incident as Spencer was nearly stationary, he is clumsy, McEvoy contributed by fumbling and then ducking his head instead of bracing, no elbow, McEvoy walked off not carried off, no alternative as couldn't tackle as McEvoy didn't have the ball, could argue accidental, no bad history. Cons: They don't like head contact, McEvoy subbed off, probably concussed. Conclusion: reckless, high contact, medium impact. 3 with a 2 for guilty plea. If really lucky 2 with a 1 for guilty plea. -

Only one way to test that. Smack BT in the ear when he isn't looking and see how he reacts. I thought it was a low, weak act and the very thing the AFL hates. We will see what he gets. It's certainly worse than a sling tackle in play and that has been getting 3 weeks lately. -

Agree. Unlike Jamar, this bloke can actually move. His 1%'s were IMO sensational. He is still learning and his effort was first class.
