"There's a strong argument," Gil McLachlan on a Priority Pick.
Redleg replied to PartyTimeJohnny's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well besides a mini draft scenario, I have another solution, which only GWS could complain about, but given their AFL help, who would care. The solution: Melbourne gets the first pick in the draft no matter where they finish and then the draft follows in normal order, with no pick for Melbourne until the next round. That way all we are given is an elevation of our first pick by one or two spots. -
On the MFC site, Craig is suggesting a couple more guys might get there chance this year and he named Davis , Taggert, Tynan and possibly Barry. I would like to see the first three get a chance this year. Barry can wait until next year, as he just doesn't look ready.

I actually think the first pick in the draft might be a bit better. What you are suggesting would be of minor help only. You are talking about getting pick 21-23. -
I wonder if Roos has said we must get a PP if he is to agree and the AFL have agreed and tried to soften the blow with Gillon's statement, recently. Then again conspiracy theories could be just that.

I am sure you are right that the rest of the year will be relevant, unless the AFL have already indicated to us that it will happen. That could be part of a Coach negotiation. Roos last week said he feels we should get a PP. Interesting!!!!!! -
Weagles players saying they want Woosher to stay on.

I keep hearing from different people, that we have Roos as Coach next year. Not sure if they are all peddling the same rumour or have knowledge. Each time I ask for the source, it is just, "that is what I have been told."

When you say right now, I think you mean at the end of the season. Lets say we beat GWS by a point and the Dogs by a point and finish above the Dogs, but get smashed and are uncompetitive in several games. Lets also say the Dogs lose their games by a goal or so, yet finish below us. What would you say our state would be then? -

The PP as stated by the AFL, will now be at the discretion of the AFL and is based on sustained poor performance on the field. While some factors can be examined, it really goes back to sustained poor performance over a period of 2 or more years. We IMO, are the only club that could qualify. The Dogs were successful in the last few years. GWS could not be considered for obvious reasons. -
Interesting times ahead.

What did he say?
-
So the Hawks match the GWS offer and then he leaves the Hawks for GWS. They give away a number 1 pick when they can get him for nothing. Remember Hawthorn has said they can't match the offer. The AFL knows this. You think this will happen.

I think Sylvia can be traded if he insists on trading and not free agency. Might be wrong on that. Anyway your point is valid. He will either stay, or just walk to the highest bidder.
-
Would walk into our side and is in carlton's best each week.
-
If he is that good and we get the chance, I agree.

Cough Gysberts cough. Cough Scully cough. Cough Tapscott cough. Cough Maric cough. Cough Strauss cough. Cough Bennell cough. Cough Jetta cough. Need I go on?

There is no doubt BANANA.
-
Yes but MM will want Watts. You could probably get Yarran and Bell for Sylvia and Jamar. Bell is clearly nowhere near their best 22. They will probably try and trade out Warnock who was hopeless against Casey.
-
Agree. You don't find quick, versatile big blokes, growing on trees. They need to be developed. I think we have now learned that.
-
Obviously I am not expecting us to beat the Swans but I think we will play better for the rest of the year. It is clear that a weight has been lifted off the player's shoulders and as many of us said, our performances were too bad to be true. the main thing I hope that happens is that Craig perserveres with the younger and new players and gives them games. That said I want Byrnes at Casey. On Rodan's game saturday he deserves another couple.
-
Yes as a ruckman forward for them. He is about 199cms. They are desperate for another ruckman. They have plenty of mids and will get more. I would still try and trade Jamar to them for Adams, who wants to come home.
-
Need I say banana?

I think our performances will be improved to the rest of the year. It will be interesting to see how the AFL reacts and which way they go as to player assistance, if any. As I have said before, money itself will not solve the onfield performance. Coaching, recruiting and development will all play their part.
