  1. Do you think the likes of Judd, Pendles or Ablett have ever resorted to his kind of sledging on the field? Probably not, because they have talent.

It is only the talentless hacks of the likes of McGinnity who have to use these tactics to make up for areas they lack in.

I am not sure if I would personally get that worked up about a bit mother slandering on the playing field, but I have no problem with a nuffy getting a weeks holiday for trying to get an edge because he isn't good enough, and he needs to sink that low.

Well, Judd has his "pressure-point" eye gouge as a weapon.

  2. I haven't seen the game -- no coverage in WA -- so am flying blind. But didn't the big indigenous round feature in the Herald Sun (written by Sam Edmund, maybe?) mention how hard Liam was doing it living in Melbourne? Thought it said his community needed him because of the violence in Yuendemu (sp?) lately. He could be preoccupied.

  3. State of Origin is an VFL/AFL idea. It came about as we kept taking all the good players from interstate, then we used them against their birth states to thrash those states. It all got a bit tasteless as well. So State of Origin concept was born.

The NRL copied our concept, as they have many.

Actually, was a WAFL idea. Subiaco FC came up with it for the reason you outlined.

  4. Flash did that annoying thing when a player holds the ball up to signal 'slow down play' or similar. It was three to four minutes before half time, a long time in a quarter, the Dees had the momentum & it proved the last time Melbourne had control of the game. The Foxtel commentators queried it & I heard Stan Alves question the value of the tactic, especially when there is quite a long time to go. Any views?

  5. Forgot to say that Bailey said we had a chance tomorrow because we have a couple of "elite athletes" (Bail & Watts, I think) who will be able to catch out some underdone Dockers, brought back too soon. Will coach from the bench again because, even though he sacrifices the overview of the play, he feels he needs to speak one on one with the kids. If they've mucked up he'll more often than not offer encouragement.

  6. Just got home from the Western Demons function. More than 300 supporters there, coaches & players mingled & involved the kids. Each table had a player for a while & then they rotated. Beamer was at our table first, just a great guy, then Joel Macdonald (ditto), then Bailey who was fabulous. Was great to hear him talk about coaching from the bench, the new training centre. Then he did a general question session, spoke v. highly of Jack Watts as an engaging guy, though v. competitive. Jack was quite a star tonight, a real personality, great w. the little kids. (He has a cut over one eye from training). This team is something to be proud of!

  7. Didn't see the game on TV but there was a bit of guffawing on Perth talkback about Channel 10's coverage. Apparently the commentators were v. interested in the Pavlich injury until they realised who the culprit was & then they didn't say another word. Also, seems there was a bit of a barracking for Carlton going on in the commentary box. Shouldn't be surprised, given the Dees' experience.
