  1. Exactly right! Think it's perhaps just a fraction premature to start making a judgement call on a player yet to play a senior game!
  2. I think it's pretty important not to link the clubs "culture" with simply on field performance. Organisational culture can change as well as different people come and go from organisations, and also there may be different cultures within different departments of an organisation. However, in my opinion, a strong culture, particularly in a football club, will always remain regardless of the individuals at a club. It is a really interesting topic.......and I would love to know exactly how the club itself would descibe its culture. It's easy to sit back as supporters and say there is a weak culture at the club. I don't think there is. From my perspective, I see a board lead by Paul Gardner, who have brought stability, both management and financial, to the club. Having achieved that, they set about finding the club a new home. This too has been achieved (still work to be done though!) This doesn't indicate to me that we have a weak culture permeating throughout the management of the club. As far as the football department goes, I see the coach as the key to establishing the culture of the football department. I do find it alarming when a 21 year old player (Brock McLean) comes out and says there is something amiss with the culture of the playing group. From an outsiders point of view, how clearly different is the culture of the playing group between a team like ours and a team like the Swans? Is it the coach? Is it the players? Is it both? Also key to this is the MFC supporter culture. The team loses 3 games in a row, and the supporters show how weak our culture is by not turning up to support the club in need. With a supporter culture of going missing when things get tough, how can we ever expect or even demand success? So far, we have 1/3 areas of the club firing, and displaying the true MFC culture.......don't expect success until the other 2 areas shape up!
  3. Didn't get to todays game, but I have been impressed with Bell.........he gets better each time I see him play. Tough as nails too......you don't see him shirk too many issues out on the ground!
  4. Can't agree totally with this. The only one that in hindsight was average was Molan.....were still a few good players picked up after him at pick 9. (Dal Santo, Matt Maguire, James Kelly) but in the same draft we got a bargain with Miller very late. Rodgers was pick 26, but there are plenty of average selections from the same draft......to name a few: 11 Richard Cole Eastern Rangers Collingwood 14 Ashley Watson Bendigo Pioneers Kangaroos (who????) 15 Barry Brooks Tasmania Mariners Port Adelaide 18 Shane Harvey Northern Knights Essendon 20 Daniel Elstone Bendigo Pioneers Hawthorn West Coast picked up Ashley Sampi in the same draft at number 6, and let a heap of quality go by as well. Not that it makes it right. If I recall correctly, there was a concerted effort back then to draft KPP, in particular key forwards, so at the time, Molan was prob worth the punt. He did have a shocking run with injuries.....of that there can be no question. Nick Smith at pick 15 in 2002.....take a look at that draft, see who went after him......extremely slim pickings, Rivers is the standout who we got at 26.....so not that bad, and we got Bell at 14! Breese was pick 62 in the 2000 draft.....can't expect a miracle there. Really.......like most clubs we have had our success stories and bad luck stories from the draft....we haven't fared significantly worse than any other club, and in many cases we have done considerably better.
  5. Fair go giving Bate a serve! With the rest of the team, he is down on form. Anyone saying he isn't up to it is kidding themselves! Bate will be a ripping player for the club. Get out and cheer the bloke instead of giving him a hard time on here!
  6. A very good point...........there is a bit of luck involved! Had Molan and Smith come on, who knows where we would be. You can't blame the recruiting.....it's just one of those things.....some players have it and some don't. (Plus injuries don't help!)
  7. The key message I'd be telling my kids (and that I tell myself for that matter) is that it might hurt a bit now, but just think about how good it's going to feel when we do win a flag!!! And that's not an IF.....but simply a WHEN!
  8. I have been a long time supporter of Daniher.....I think he has done a great job as coach, and he without doubt has always served the MFC with the clubs best interests at heart.........lets face it.....he is a quality bloke! I will support Daniher as coach for as long as he is in charge, and involved with the MFC. But do I think he should be appointed as coach for next year and beyond......no. I actually feel slightly guilty for saying that.....but if I take the emotion out of it, I think that the time is right to move forward with a new coach. It's not that I think that what Danners does is completely wrong, just that I honestly feel that things can be done better, and as a result, that is what is best for the MFC going forward. It's nothing personal, it's not disloyalty, a vendetta, or even unreasonable. It's just my view.
  9. Judd may not want to come home......but clearly he hasn't decided......what player wouldn't want to sure up their future with a club should the opportunity arise? There is always a chance!
  10. Can't agree Choko......we have been rubbish for the first 3 games. We have been making the same fundamental errors since the Saints game, and our preseason was pretty lamentable as well. It isn't the losses, but the way we are losing......the football is rubbish! We have not turned up to any game this year and resembled a pumped up, switched on, game ready team prepared to fight. That's the issue! Nathan Buckley said the other day on SEN that he didn't care which 22 players ran out each week, so long as each players carried out the role they had been given by the coach. We cannot even achieve that at the minute! Have you taken a look at the Pies injuries......Buckley (Captain), Ben Johnson, Didak (All Australian), Rusling, Lonie, Clement (against Tiges) Not an excuse for injuries in sight from them after the loss to the Eagles.......just disappointment they didn't win, and a bloody good fight they put up! The Tiges have had Troy Simmonds, Kent Kingsley, Ray Hall, Trent Knobel, Nathan Brown, Mark Coughlan all injured........they have been more competitive than we have! I'll accept injuries if and when we go out and show something........until that stage.......injuries is a cop out!
  11. Nothing but a crap excuse! Read my earlier post.......other clubs have injury lists as long as ours........injuries cannot be blamed solely...........we have been uncompetitive......there is no excuse for that!
  12. May that nighmare never come back! Thankfully the draft and salary cap stop that from happening like it used to.
  13. I used to think that too, but I no longer do. If it is the players then why are they playing so poorly? No motivated? Not good enough? What is it? If they are not motivated, then we clearly have the wrong players at the club.......not good enough......then again, we have the wrong players.........who is responsible for that??? We didn't fire a shot in preseason, apart from a scratchy win over the Tiges (I think) and the rest of our play has been rubbish! If the players aren't prepared and fired up for round one, two or three, then whose fault is it? Injuries is a cop out! Sure we would love to always be full strength, but it's never going to happen. Plenty of clubs have injuries at the moment, but we seem to wallow in it the most, and we always have! Collingwood came back from a Perth road trip, had no Buckley, Didak, Ben Johnson, Rusling and Clement........and they sent Tarrant packing at the end of last year.....yet they find a way to win over the Tiges! Adelaide......no Riciutto, Hentschel, Biglands, McGregor, Johncock,.....still manage to back up from beating the Doggies by rolling the undefeated Power.....not an excuse in sight! St.Kilda.........Ball, Maguire, Hudgton, Hamill, Riewoldt (until this week) We are the experts at making excuses for injuries we really are. In each of those examples, the coach has still been able to put a team on the park that is firstly competitive, and secondly has a chance to win. We have not looked like either at all during 2007! I didn't expect us to win today, but I sure as hell expect us to be a lot more competitive! P.S. I am not for sacking Daniher mid season, but we do need a change at season end, and the way things are going, this will take care of itself.
  14. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Not that I hope it does, but that's pretty funny!
  15. Spot on! Whether you think he should be replaced as coach or not, Daniher definitely deserves supporters respect. He has never been anything but pro MFC in his whole time as coach, and if nothing else his deserves to be treated well. Booting him out mid season would be pretty poor form.
  16. Exactly.....it's a mindset / cultural thing, and it has to go!
  17. 10 turnovers coming out of defence, 6 resulting in goals to the Cats! That is just slop!
  18. Moloney on the bench with a groin problem........it just keeps getting worse!
  19. We are the worst team in the comp at the minute. Make no mistake, playing finals the last 3 years has only masked ongoing problems that are yet to be addressed. Get ready for the number 1 draft pick.......a young ruckman could go 1 this year.....just what we need!
  20. Not 48 points worth in the second qtr!
  21. Massacre coming up! Fat Lady (Rex) just sang!
  22. 1st mark inside forward 50 halfway through the 2nd quarter......scarey! 4 goals to Hawkins.....carving up Carroll.......even scarier!
  23. According to Bondy, we are just bombing into the forward line.....same as week 1 & 2!
