The player wear a blood pressure monitor and stop watch on the wrist and GPS unit in the back of the man [censored] top.

All these units are monitor so that players can get the best out of each interval.

Jakey Lever’s must have broken in the heat 😉

Why, so they can have Collingwood on Friday night? What a joke, Docklands is free on Saturday have us on Friday and move Pies/Saints to Saturday. Now we have a midweek game that will make it difficult for families and others with rigid working hours to attend. Seriously, [censored] the AFL.

Yeap in every way. Great concept but doesn’t look a great outcome. Pert, not a great one pal.

    Notes on the painting:

    From the ground up….
*One of my primary visual intentions was to have ‘blue and red’ dominate, without white particularly (Max’s half eleven excluded). As such, both Jack and Max’s boots have been ‘un-whited’, adding to the red and blue saturation.
*I grew up in the era when “Redlegs” was still a popular nickname for the Dees, and I loved the long red socks, particularly against the black ‘old-school’ boots. Thus I’ve lengthened Gus’ socks (and slightly shrunk the others to offer his even more ‘length’) and he’s wearing brand-less black boots. This, amongst other things, is a nod to legacy, as well as offering the chance to bring up the red proportion against the blue in the painting overall as there’s almost no jersey ‘yolk’ visible.
*There is no advertising/branding on clothing (boots excepted), including the AFL logo. None of it is red and blue, and although advertising is an admittedly necessary evil, it’s gone.
*The ‘fence-banner’ background speaks for itself. A desaturated tone of blue, against the deeper uniform colours. Top right is hard to make out on the photo, but it’s a pair of fuschias. Premiership years listed - right to left, past to current. (in different fonts for different eras), official logos also, with the current logo the largest and significantly at Max’s toe. Jersey numbers of “team of the century (1900-1999)” in lightest blue on right.
*I love the Jack-Max relationship here.
⁃    As our ex-captain, who despite losing the captaincy remains vice-captain, Jack is pure MFC legacy - his father was a legend and captain, he grew up supporting the club, is as hard as nails, lacks the polish, but gives his all and is essential for it (Iet’s just say I was tempted to put blood on his mouthguard!) Jack lifts his enormous captain with a look of determined joy. I raised his head off his shoulders a bit, along with an eyebrow, to ‘elevate’ his physical expression. His left bicep is bigger, and leaves an impression on Max’s jersey.
⁃    Max here is the change-bringer, the drought-breaker. Christ-allusive with arms outspread, but in the most unaffected, innocent way. And he knows it.  He fully trusts his teammates, his ‘lifters’ and with an unadulterated expression of intense victorious delight. All we see of his ‘11’ , is a ‘1’ - he is this era’s cultural progenitor.
⁃    Gus is every other team member - a pillar and a wrap-around, fully invested and enfolding this iteration of Melbourne to reinforce the union. (Can still see his blue helmet though).
*The ‘Crowd’ background is a (red-tinted) grey - to bring a ‘pop’ to the skin/uniform saturation, and as a colour representation, or lack thereof, of the media background in front of which footy plays out. Top right corner is a cap of the Tom Wills era style (also reminiscent of the velvet caps of the 70’s childhood). Max is either pointing to it, or tossing it into the past, forever. There is a name labelled on the inner cap rim ….N. Smith.
Initially I made the scarf standard length. It didn’t seem enough. The scarf is us, the supporters of the oldest football club in the country. We are long in loyalty, long in numbers, long in suffering and generations. We’ve been on a winding journey, as sport determines - subject to joy and despair. The scarf, also our journey, is both ladder and snake. It is suspended in the present - an activating force for Max and his team, as they so often made clear.
Both scarf and cap (a supporter’s essential uniform, now and ever) are de-saturated and de-sharpened in keeping with the fence banner detail.

Excuse again the less than adequate image. The painting is 48 inch x 32 inch, so can’t be helped. Any other details needing explanation, ask away.

If that doctoring stuff doesn’t work out… kudos Webber.

    Email from Gary Pert:

This Sunday we finally have the opportunity to come together as a club to celebrate the 2021 Premiership.

This event will be an incredibly special occasion and I encourage all Melbourne supporters to get along to the MCG for an experience they will never forget.

This event will be the first time our players and coaches officially come together following their post-premiership leave period and I know how excited they are by the prospect of finally celebrating this Premiership with our Victorian supporters, at our home, the MCG.

While the chance to sit back, relax and enjoy the game with a stadium full of Melbourne supporters is an exciting prospect, Sunday’s celebration is about much more than this. It is an opportunity to recreate many of the special moments we were unable to share with our Victorian supporters and to hold an event that brings together our entire club, past and present.

Club greats Neale Daniher and David Neitz will have official roles on the day, with Neale to present Simon Goodwin the Jock McHale Medal and David to present the Norm Smith Medal to Christian Petracca. These will be iconic Melbourne moments, and ones that we can’t wait to share with you all.

Those in attendance will also witness past players from the 40s onwards participate in a very special Premiership Cup procession, culminating in the 2021 Premiership Cup being held aloft in its rightful home for the first time ever, the mighty MCG.

We will finally hear from Goody who will get the chance to deliver his much-anticipated Grand Final speech to Dees fans, as well as hearing from our Captain, Max Gawn and Norm Smith medallist, Christian Petracca.

A huge highlight of the day will be a chance for supporters to farewell two greats of our club in Nathan Jones and Neville Jetta. Both players have been superstars and have made outstanding contributions to our football club. Supporters will get to hear from both players on Sunday and get the opportunity to show their appreciation for their years of loyal service.

We will hear from Russell Robertson and his band at half-time, see the players re-presented their medals on stage at the conclusion of the game and have the chance to sing the theme song with the entire red and blue family. Supporters will also have the chance to get a photograph of all Melbourne’s 13 Premiership Cups, which will be on display for the first time ever, free of charge from 8:00am to 11:00am outside Gate 3.

Food outlets, bars and cafes will be open and there will be concourse entertainment including buskers and partner giveaways.

The club is determined to put together an event that supporters will remember for the rest of their lives. An event where we can share moments we have talked about and dreamed about and now these moments have become real.

Tickets are free for all to attend however, for Covid-compliance and contact tracing purposes, all attendees will need to pre-book a reserved seat ticket to the event via Ticketek. We have already seen an amazing uptake from supporters but there are still plenty more seats available for those of you who are yet to secure your seats.

I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday and coming together to celebrate and create life-long memories.

As Mach5 has said Pert is clearly not up to it!!! Robby and his band lol!!!

Seriously besides the merch delivery issues and long running home base setup, the club seems to be hitting all the right notes, Pert included.

Surely you gave her notice before she booked

Na Satan she is one of those very organised folk and had booked prior to the finals ending. The place we booked was taking bookings in anticipation of lockdown ending as anticipated “luckily” for me.

  7. The New York Islanders have 8 players in “covid protocol” and similar to the Ottawa Senators have now had games postponed. They won’t play again until Friday, at the earliest if things go well.

Will be interesting to see how an AFL season plays out next year.

Watching his highlights i can't help but think he reminds me a lot of Corey Enright. He's not a line breaking half back like Hunt or Rivers, but when he has the footy he has so much composure and time that time just slows down around him.

Doing a bit more research on him i came across this article that states he started playing senior football at just 15 years of age and even kicked 4 goals on his debut. Seems like he had a pretty impressive under 16's year which resulted in being selected for All Australian.

Geraldton teen footballer Judd McVee in top form | The West Australian

Is it just me or does it seem like Taylor and co end up picking up players who have good U16 seasons? It pinged in my mind reading about McVee that I feel like I’ve read this before when it comes to Dees draftees in the last 3-4 seasons. Might be coincidence I’m sure.

I believe we are looking at the facility being built for the Women's World Cup, the State Government will build it and pay for it and we will take it over when the World Cup finishes in 2023.

It may well be where car park F currently is, if not very close to that.

    That's the plan.

Stealth facilities take over… I like it.

normally, but there are plenty of exceptions. e.g. i know a previous work product "WSU". we pronounced it as the initials and the yanks pronounced it as "woosoo".....just saying

anyway, ANB, ASIO  and such are not abbreviations

So his real name is ANB? Why did we extend it to include Alex etc? Strange.

Essendon just released their latest financials.

Apparently they received $7M in grants and donations to "extend and improve the hangar."

Essendon have posted a strong financial result for 2021, recording a statutory profit of $8.2 million and becoming bank-debt free again.

The Bombers’ profit for this year is made up of $1.2 million generated from operations, and $7 million derived from grants and donations which were used to expand their Hangar facility in Tullamarine.
