There’s worse to come.
We made it into Queensland (which means we queued last week for 1½ hours before we flew out 3 days later). Yesterday, we had to go through the same process in a long line outside a pathology lab on the Gold Coast with hundreds of others, mostly masked but minimal social distancing. The State’s resources are so stretched that the police minister said they would struggle to enforce the testing requirement and that it was virtually an honour system. There’s not only an enormous strain on resources but it places every one who goes at risk of catching it anyway and people who should be tested are missing out. It’s a bloody mess.
Yeap “we’re open for Xmas! Come and support our tourism industry….”

I'm going to spend Christmas morning by attaching a giant novelty bow to the bonnet of my car, parking in front of a random house until I hears squeals of delight then speed off around the corner to find my next victim.
Dressed as Santa I do hope!!

And once again it starts.....
No fans at this weekend's Newcastle Jets v Wanderers match in Newcastle, NSW.
I’ll be devastated if the cricket is affected. MELB City have half a dozen players test positive now as well.

NHL has shut down for around a week.
NFL allow players who have tested positive but who are double vaxed and not showing symptoms to play.

Booked in for 12:30 Sunday and my new Premiership polo and cap arrived yesterday, can’t wait.❤️💙
Was a great little experience, the staff are brilliant, friendly and excited for us Dees fans. Dropped another $100 at the AFL shop. The Drake tshirts are excellent and selling like “hot cakes” apparently.

Lol the only one talking about Tomlinson’s “readiness” is you picket. Webber is a physio and knows his game, as he said if Tomlinson comes out playing early doors then he is well ahead of the curve.

Im pretty sure I read in an extract of Maxy's book he said the week of the gf he was avoiding going out because he didn't want to put himself at risk of covid.
But I know they have to live their lives but it's a risk going out the night before a game. Not only do you have to dodge covid but food poisoning is a risk to. Anyway he will get the quickest covid test ever done.
Captain out before a crucial test and he’s out at a restaurant.. at least sit out side in an area way from the general public. Strange decision.

The NHL has been hammered by it now, almost the entire Calgary team and staff have it, multiple other teams have 5+ players/staff with it. Multiple games postponed, multiple players quarantining in cities they don’t love in as they were on road trips and very little leeway to make up games unless they decide to not go to the Olympics.

The good - home games against Essendon, Carlton & Collingwood
The bad - 7 interstate trips (incl Alice Springs)
The ugly - playing down at that [censored] in Geelong - AGAIN
Only if those 2 chit trucks Carlton and Collingwood are still in it so late in the season.

Wow, I sure copped some heat for my concern for our players' wellbeing after Jake's fainting spell. Those replying (or face planting or even vomiting) seem to miss the point of my original post entirely. My question was simply why do such an onerous session in hot weather (and direct sun) and risk the players' health when it could have been done on a cooler day? Particularly given that this was the first scheduled training session for 2021/22. The best distance runners do not do their hardest workout on the first day back after a break, they build up to it, increasing the intensity as they get fitter. Okay, so football fitness is different to running fitness? Not so much any more. Any running program should be gradual. Throwing people into hard sessions on day 1 risks various injuries such as calf and achilles strains and even stress reactions or fractures. And doing them on warm or hot days risks heat exhaustion which may cause, surprise surprise, fainting. But I never suggested that players should not do hard running on hot days. Of course they should, given that AFL venues now include Darwin, Alice Springs, Cairns etc. But not on day 1 in hot weather after a two month break unless all players have followed and adhered to strict running programs during their break, which I doubt is the case and certainly ain't for the new boys.
The thing with today is players are not really taking a break. It’s not like 10, 15 or 20+ years ago where they would go to mad Monday then off to Bali on a month long bender before doing some runs around the local oval.
The things we’ve seen over this off-season have been players taking ownership of themselves and doing sessions 3 weeks after the premiership win, Selwyn noting today the players have been doing “loads” while not at the club. The players are fine, Lever is a one off. (Unless losing the fitness guru is the start of our next 50+ year curse)- 1

Brad Sheppard has retired from WC due to concussion issues. he is 30 but still in his prime imo (AA last year).
Gun defender and big loss for WC
presser tomorrow
Imagine your career is over at 30, along with brain injury. How far, in a positive way we have come from the 90s, 00s and even 10s. The Shaun Smith’s of the world would be in a much better place today if they were protected players like today.

Come on Weids!! If he can take two steps up and clunk those marks in the contested he gets too along with kicking a higher % of shots on goal he can be a real asset and look to put pressure on Tmac and BBB for one of the tall fwd roles.
