  1. Just because a couple of officials have come out and said their not expecting much over the next couple of years dosent mean we're mediocre,it just means we're facing truths. Do you think the players are goiing to think " Aw,crap! The board have written us off already, whats the point in even playing?" No. The players will still be giving it their all. If anything,it may spur them on a bit.

  2. I've been reading a lot of posts and it seems the majority of people don't really rate our list and believe we're at least 3 years from playing finals.

I believe our list isn't that bad. Sure, theres a few who shouldn't be there, but I'm impressed with our youngsters.

    And finals?

    I believe we're only 2 years away.

    Comments ?

  3. He is a fringe ordinary player regardless of whether he is hard or soft.

I am not sure why when we have a surplus of C grade and D grade footballers on our list why the hell we would add another one.

We should be trying to improve our list and I dont see what Houlihan gives us.

At the moment his supporters have rated him an outside receiver who is a good kick with questionable physical skills. At best he is an extremely poor man's Yze (in his latter years) and we need that sort of player like a salary cap breach.

And regardless of how bad MFC's list is, there are actually crap players at other Clubs. I dont see why they should be recognised as otherwise.

If MFC are to be successful in the future then many our current list and many of the definite NQRs being put forward are not part of that future. Houlihan definitely isn't.

I couldnt of put it better.Thank you.
  4. I love it how everyone's so quick to bag a suggestion like this one but forget to realise how crap our list is.

We're a rubbish footy club, so I think it's a bit rich for everyone to start bagging players from other clubs.

So your saying a crap player would look good on our rubbish list?
  5. My problem with all this Warnock saga is why have we said we're only interested in people who want to be Melbourne and we're still chasing this goose??? He's said he wants to be a blue,he's going to cost to much and he aint that good. If we are going to bring another dud ruckman to the club we should get Seaby. After all, Warnock was playing 2nd fiddle to him at W.Perth for the best part of half a year!

  6. can someone tell me why CJ is on the table?

was he not one of the shining lights for the year??

would it not be a waste to put five years into him - use a father son pick on him - and send him to a club for not much for him to become a real solid player over the next 3-4 years!!!

am i the only one that would be extremely unhappy if he were to be traded.....

Nah mate, im with you. Why would we give away a player whos starting to look the goods. Remember people, when he was drafted there were big wraps on him. He was tipped to go top 10.
  7. Based on my view and rumours abroad. Trades in bold compliment each other.

Aaron DAVEY and Brad GREEN to Port for PICK 4.

    or

Aaron DAVEY and PICK 19 to Port for PICK 4.

Paul WHEATLEY to Sydney for PICK 30.

PICK 30 and Daniel BELL for Adam THOMSON and Greg BENTLEY.

Jared RIVERS to Hawthorn for Mitch THORP.

    or

Brad GREEN to Hawthorn for MItch THORP.

That is 4 or 5 players traded out by us and is the maximum allowed (5).

So how did we end up?

    DRAFT PICKS 1, 4, 17, 19 (possibly keep), 35, 51, 68 FIRST 2 Selections - Watts and Vickery

Players IN - Adam Thomson, Greg Bentley and Mitch Thorp.

Players OUT - Aaron Davey, Brad Green, Paul Wheatley, Jared Rivers

If it panned out that way I would be stoked! Is realistic I think!

You really dont like Aaron Davey do you.
  8. ESSENDON has emerged as the front-runner to secure the services of out-of-contract Geelong midfielder Brent Prismall.

It is understood the Bombers are the preferred destination of the midfielder, who has asked to be traded after struggling to be a regular senior player in the Cats' side.

Wants to go there. What is it with all these money hungry little s hits who want all the best clubs. What a load of crap every club struggles at some point, who can forget Geelong three years ago. I am sick of Melbourne tryiung to trade with players who seem interested and then go cold because another club comes along.

Hey mate, dont believe evrything that comes out in the press.
  9. Why the hell does everyone seem to think any trade we do will involve a pick and a player for a higher pick????WHY!!!And Wonaeamirri???? Yeah, lets give up a good little player for nothing. And Brad Green? Sure, if he doesnt sign, shop him around for the best pick.IMO he should be the next skipper so why trade him???

  10. I'm not sure what everyone is getting all "horned up" over this guy. What i've seen of him, doesn't do much for me. Can anyone say right now 'i've seen him play, and he will be a) a champion for the club. B) a good servicable player. c) a waste of a draft pick/trade. Total dud. Help me out please.

He's a tap ruckman whos not going to rack up possesions and kick goals. Remember,he was right under our nose playing for sandy with jamar and we stuck with jamar. Whats everyone so excited about?

  11. I'm astonished that the supporters on this site have no real clue as to the gem they have on their hands.

Here Here! About time someone got off the kids back and realised what a gun he's going to be. How many 18 year olds his size and (lack of ) weight are running around in developing afl sides with no real leaders to show the way? Have you all forgotten his earlier games, especially against geelong, where his decision making and foot skills were awesome? It's a confidence thing. Get off his back!

  12. if you dont think those stats are pretty reasonable for a 21 year with 14 games to his name and a lot of development to do, then go to footywire.com and compare his career stats to the career stats of david neitz...

Seriously, you're not trying to compare him to David Neitz are you? One difference, Neitz was a gun as a junior. Second difference, I don't remember Neitz ever having short arms or going to ground as easy as Newton does!

  13. A good discussion but a few points are missing imho.

Firstly, the Olympic Park precinct base is a necessity for several reasons.

    1. MFC play home games at the G. State of the art facilities over the road would allow players to go straight from the ground for icing, ice baths, treatment and recovery straight after a game played there. This is much like Adelaide and Sydney, whom I have heard do recovery straight after a game and are known to keep players at the club for overnight for icing and treatment. I am sure a lot of other clubs based where they play would be doing the same. If the club fully located to Casey this would be impossible and leave us lagging further behind the opposition off the field.

    2. It is likely that the new stadium would have facilities to cater for US too. So just like the players we can trot off accross the road for a drink in our own club rooms after a game.

    3. The facilities could also be used for pre match and Grand Final day events among other things, that can help make the club a bit of money.

Secondly, moving to Casey COULD also have an alterior motive as well as all those mentioned above. It could quite possibly provide a location for the MFC RESERVES to play IF the AFL see fit to re-introduce them again in the future. I understand that they are currently doing an investigation into it. ie. costings, logistics etc.

Personally I like the idea of having both facilities. It gives us the luxury of being involved in an expanding market place while still being close to the home of football.

I guess the benefits to the club are this.

The facilities in the Olympic Park precinct will enable supporters and members to get and feel closer to the club enabling the club to build stronger bonds with its supporter base, whereas the facilities at Casey would enable the club to get closer to a huge number of potential members/supporters.

It seems like a win win to me.

    Go Dees

If our past board hadnt passed up the opportunity to take the glasshouse ( lexuscentre) we wouldnt be discussing this!

  14. If we dont get serious and go the major cleanout of the top end and get as many top 20 as can this year we will be in trouble given the draft concessions going to be given to Gold Coast & West Sydney in the years to come

Who says this draft is going to be a ripper? Why get rid of players for the sake of it. Every other club has the same problem with the impending concessions. All it means is recruiters are going to have to work harder.

  15. I, like every other supporter was rapt with the win, but can someone explain to me what happened? Which game plan is the one Baileys been trying to teach. The first 6 and a half games or the last 2 quarters? If the latter, isnt that very similar to Danihers plan of old?
