I donāt think anyone can suggest the players arenāt on a great wicket. Play the game you love, get payed very well to do it. On the downside donāt get fat, Ā Injure yourself in the off season or do drugs in public. Anyone having sympathy for these guys because the club āowns themā needs to take a look around at how most people earn a living. Sheesh!

By that afternoon he couldn't barely put any weight on it and was fairly bruised up as well. Club put him on a off legs program for a few weeks to try and relieve the tension but everytime he'd try and push through it aggravate further.
Leading up to round 0 the club and charlie were managing it well but after the Sydney game, it had a significant impact on his Achilles and from that he simply couldn't recover which resulted in surgery.Ā
There is no tip toeing around it, playing against Sydney had a significant impact on his achillies injury.
Thats plain wrong Iām afraid.Ā

Sprsgo did have surgery on his Achilles.Ā
Spargo didnāt want the surgery he was recommended before last season. Playing around 0 made no difference to his injury. He still waited months before going under the knife in the hope his Achilles would improve. It was largely his decision to try and avoid surgery. Heās now had it and the recovery is slow.Ā

Would you go after this bloke if we were able to agree trade value. We seem to have a reasonable trade negotiations with the Doggies.
Or is he destined to leave the footy capitol. Ā
Iād take him everyday of the week but heās probably going to Freo

Alternatively Johnson plays FF with JVR at CHF
Turner the 3rd tall when needed
In some ways the CHF position is more important than the FF positionĀ
JVR has done ok when previously playing CHF and Johnson's role could be to add a physical presence (from the front position)
Bringing the ball to ground for the crumbers (whilst taking the odd grab)Ā
We'll know more after the practice match and the match simulation
I think Johnson could just as easily play close to goal to help bring ball to ground from the more rushed forward entries. He could go alright with a mix of Pickett, Chandler, Spargo at his feet.

I find it odd how touchy people get about any criticism of the club on this site but since you asked.
Some examples from just last year:
Spargo round 0, returning from an achilles injury had done very little conditioning and no match fitness immediately re injured it and has still not recovered.
Oliver has basically been mishandled since he did his hammy in mid 2023. Admittedly some of this is Oliver's fault but rushing him back to play in the early part of the season last year when he'd [censored] away his entire pre-season basically set him up to fail. We then played him through a broken hand for most of the year.
People can say that Petracca coming back on on KB was ticked off all they like. Within 30 seconds of him being out there it was obvious to anyone with eyeballs he was not right and he stayed out for over 20 minutes.
Other notable examples off the top of my head:
Joel Smith getting injured in a practice match in 2019, coming back on and not playing a single game for the rest of the year.
Goodwin screaming at a Doctor over the phone about pushing a concussed Brayshaw through his comfort-zone because he had been at Chadstone a few days prior.
Fritsch coming back from a broken foot to play a meaningless game to close out the season in 2023, which he then reinjured and was affected by in the QF two weeks later.
Ā
Thats 5 examples in 5 years, so weāre averaging one mistake with an injured player per year. Now letās look at each case. Spargo was determined not to have surgery on his Achilles and play the season. In mine and the clubs eyes heās best 22 so he played. It did absolutely no further damage to his existing injury, none . So now weāre down to 4 in 5 years.Ā
To claim Oliver was mishandled without knowing what the club did with regard to his injury and state of mind is erroneous. Not to mention he was basically best on ground in round 1 so that kinda puts a hole in your theory. So weāre down to 3 in 5. Thatās so low that I canāt even be bothered explaining the rest. -

Do you think Spargo plays round 1?
I do think Sparrow will play Half forward abit.
Really hope K.Brown gets a gig round 1 in the forward pocket.
With Kozzie and ANB missing I think Spargo will be very close to getting the nod in Round 1. Ā If heās fit then what heās going to need is 10-12 matches to get his game back. For mine heās best 22. Ā love him forward of centre with ball in hand. I donāt have stats but I reckon this scenario ends up in a shot on goal in a good percentage of instances. He uses the ball well, is smart and if thereās some pace on the ball and heās kicking it to a leading target then weāre in for half a dozen score assists every week.

Fritta Ā Turner Ā Chandler
K.Brown Ā JVR Ā Trac

Johnson on benchĀ

Only Picked K.Brown as we need another small and Spargo isnāt ready and Kozzy is out and we have no one else.Ā
Mentha isnāt ready also.ĀFritsch JVR Spargo/Sparrow
Langford/Trac Turner Johnson/Chandler
I am hoping that Kynan Brown, AMW, even Laurie all get a hit out forward this year. Jefferson remains the possible wildcard. Iām assuming heāll play against North. Heās going to have to a good day out.

If Judd leaves I can see him in west coast colours more than Freos. Harley and Judd are very close I believe? Have seen them around Melbourne in the off season together a few times. If Kozzy wants out and we get a good deal and Judd wants to stay would you send some picks to the eagles for Harley or take it to the draft?
Judd, Pickett and a first round pick for Harley Reid??

Yes it's the ferociousness above all else which has been missing the last couple of years. We've seen it in bits and pieces but not consistently across the season like in '21.
Itās also when players are āin syncā with each other and the game plan. Things start to get on a roll and in that Ā finals series we were āin the grooveā

Projecting much?
But seeing as you has raised this the number of players to hit 200 games drafted at 28 or worse is high.
I donāt understand your response. Plus I was talking about guys recruited from other clubs at picks in the late 20ās re number of games. Anyway, I just donāt see this as a massive mistake by the club. We rolled the dice and lost and that happens.Ā

Do we need another inside mid right now? Can George become best 22 in the next 2-3 years? Who else is available? Where do we see our list holes and overall profile? Will Culley hold a best 22 spot for 5-10 years? Is Kentfield worth persisting with? The club will answer these questions and my hunch is George will get the spot.

Pick 28 is 2nd Round, pretty good players have been secured at 28 Ā
McAdam was in the āGive him a chance categoryā or should have beenĀ
Ā
Ridiculous, if you buy an old car with some potential and youāre a great mechanic then of course you take the punt. Our fitness people had him on the verge of fulfilling his talent. His injury is a cruel blow for a kid whoās apparently worked his backside off to give himself the best chance at success. Yes heās likely a bust in the cruel light of day but pick 28 rarely gets you a 200 game player. The club will help him recover and heāll likely be delisted and weāll move on. He wonāt be the last pick in the late 20ās to play very few games. Ranting about wasteful picks is hyperbole.Ā

Training Ground?
in Melbourne Demons
If theyāve started fundraising they must be relatively confident of getting the project the required go ahead.
