  1. Just to clear up a few uncertainties:

-a 59 ENTER does mean Scully beat 59% of the state, but keep in mind that about 17% of year 12 student will either not last the year or are illiterate.

-At a private school 59 would be in the bottom bracket of marks.

-ENTER and study scores are related to effort much more than natural ability since the subjects aren't overly complicated. My 2 highest study scores came in year 11 , and since I was just about assured of getting into my course of choice at that stage I dropped off in year 12 and my marks reflected that.

59 isn't a great score, but for someone in Scully's position its not a bad result.

  2. Sylvia

    Davey

    Garland

    Watts

    Grimes

    Jurrah

    Morton

    Frawley

    Bennell

    Rivers

I'd imagine after next year Blease, Strauss and pick 1 and 2 will be on that list. I'd also be shattered if we lost any of Petterd, Maric, Moloney or even Dunn on what he's shown lately. If McLean can get back to his 2006 form then he's a must keep, I just hope he's been injured this year.

Btw, Sylvia and Davey would be in most teams' top 5 players right now. Colin's quiet games these days are 20 touches, 1 goal performances. I wouldn't trade him for pick 3, 4 and 5 in this year's draft.

  3. We can still mathematically make the top 4. Here's what my prediction looks like:

    1 St Kilda 22 21 1 0 1543 1219 126.58 84

    2 Geelong 22 19 3 0 1665 1507 110.48 76

    3 Collingwood 22 14 8 0 1499 1282 116.93 56

    4 Melbourne 22 10 12 0 3252 1560 208.46 40

    5 W Bulldogs 22 10 12 0 1694 1333 127.08 40

    6 Adelaide 22 10 12 0 1373 1228 111.81 40

    7 Essendon 22 10 12 0 1448 1398 103.58 40

    8 Bris Lions 22 10 12 0 1407 1405 100.14 40

    9 Port Adel 22 10 12 0 1398 1522 91.85 40

    10 Hawthorn 22 10 12 0 1293 1451 89.11 40

    11 West Coast 22 10 12 0 1277 1443 88.50 40

    12 Carlton 22 10 12 0 1539 1766 87.15 40

    13 Sydney 22 9 13 0 1358 1705 79.65 36

    14 Fremantle 22 8 14 0 1278 1939 65.91 32

    15 Richmond 22 8 14 0 1242 1891 65.68 32

    16 Nth Melb 22 7 15 0 1109 1726 64.25 28

  4. Fevola: 191cm, one of the best full forwards in the comp

Goodes: 195cm, one of the best mids in the comp

It would be ridiculous to pass on a draftee purely because of their height when it doesn't always give an indication as to how they play.

  5. Davey had a good game, he is simply our only reliable disposer of the ball, and we need it in his hands as much as possible. The 20m chips were due to lack of options, not through any fault of Davey's. On more than a few occasions he found a creative option and was damaging.

  6. Robert Flower

    Laurie Fowler

Gary Hardeman/ Greg Wells/ Stan Alves

    David Schwartz - up 2001

    G Lyon/A Jakovich/ J Farmer up to 2000

Not that hot on Grinter who was a capable footballer but blew it with his sometimes indiscriminate white line fever thuggery.

    No Yze RR?

For me, Schwartz, Yze, what I remember of A. Jakovich, and I also liked the way Rigoni went about things.

I think Maric may join that list soon as well.

  7. I think Petterd's a good chance. Did Yze miss for Sandy because he was the 'first' emergency, or did he have an injury/illness concern?

Frawley doesn't deserve to be dropped IMO. I'd definitely want to bring Garland in, though.

Yze was listed as injured with a knee problem. If he's fit I'd bring him in for Wonna, we've all seen what he can do but he isn't impacting at all over the last month. Hope Petterd gets a go, and Garland should come in if fit. I'm not a Frawley fan at all yet, but he's shown enough to play out the year.

  8. 1. Garland

    2. Petterd

    3. Morton (although he could slot in anywhere atm)

    4. Jones

    5. Bate

    6. Wonnaeamirri

    7. Dunn

    8. Buckley

    9. Martin

    10. Valenti

    11. Newton

    12. Bartram

    13. Bode

    14. Frawley

I think Maric will be as good or better than all of them as well.

  9. White is out of contract and finished in AFL. No trade value.

Jamar is better ruckman than PJ so I would keep Jamar and I believe that PJ may attract more interest at the trade table. However its all marginal though.

I agree that PJ would attract more attention at the trade table, but that's because he is superior to Jamar in every facet of the game. Even in ruck contests, Jamar often mistimes his jump, and then becomes useless. If PJ doesn't win the tap at least he sometimes follows it up with a clearance, certainly more often than Jamar. PJ will be valuable to us in the coming years, I don't want him traded.

  10. Watch Cameron Ling play rather than listen to commentators. He occasionally limits his opponent to 10 touches at the least, and in the same game he handpasses backwards 20 or so times, at best he breaks even. A win for Ling reduces the battle to 17 vs. 17, a loss and Geelong are essentially down a player because he is useless offensively.

The best thing for Nick Stevens reputation was having a year off, everyone has forgotten the mediocrity he has dished up over the years. Even this year, he regularly gets 60ish% disposal efficiency, and his effective disposals aren't particularly damaging besides the odd goal.

  11. Overrated:

    Cameron Ling

    Dale Thomas

    Nick Maxwell

Anthony Rocca (maybe not anymore, but has never been half the footballer his brother was)

Probably Cameron Bruce, judging by friends who are opposition supporters

    Hamish McIntosh

    Campbell Brown

    Marc Murphy

    Nick Stevens

    Cameron Mooney

    Luke Ball

    Underrated:

Brendon Goddard (criticised because no 1 pick, but is a very good player)

David Hille, agree with many here

Rivers and Whelan, again, going by opposition supporters opinions

    Kade Simpson

  12. B: Warnock Martin Whelan

    HB:Rivers Garland CJ

Probably a bit too tall, so Warnock and Martin would be fighting out that 3rd tall spot against a smaller team, with Bruce or Green to fill the extra spot.

Buckley to become a permanent winger, along with Wheatley, who still takes kick ins. I'm not sure where Bartram fits, he's probably not in the best 22 for me, but is young and has a go, so deserves a spot somewhere, maybe a back up half back/mid on the bench. Bell might only be kept for depth, Carroll is miles behind the 4 talls, and Frawley has a long way to go.

  13. Neita- My Hero, Foo Fighters

Cale Morton- Skin and Bones, Foo Fighters

Juice- Learn to Fly, Foo Fighters, or Learning to Fly, Tom Petty or Pink Floyd

Davey, Flash by Queen is ideal, but maybe Life in the Fast Lane, The Eagles

Isaac Weetra- Wasted Time, The Eagles

    Jamar-The Last Resort, The Eagles

Meeson- Long, Long Way to Go, Def Leppard

Robbo- Given to Fly, Pearl Jam, followed by Broken Wings, Mr. Mister, then Fall at Your Feet, Crowded House

Garland-Now We're Getting Somewhere, Crowded House

Yze- Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again?, The Angels

Bate- I See Red, Split Enz

Dunn- I'll Stand By You, The Pretenders

  14. YM, would you still want Naitanui given we are a strong chance of getting Warnock from Freo? I'd prefer to get Watts or Rich and Warnock rather than both Naitanui and Wranock, or Naitanui and another target in the PSD. From what I've seen, Rich is the only sure thing, skills like his are as rare as Naitanui's athleticism or Watts' marking.

  15. I liked the sound of Watts, so I went to watch the Sandy Dragons vs. Gippsland Power last weekend (also because I know a few of the guys at Sandy) and I was disappointed. He had 12 touches, 5 marks, 2 goals 2 behinds. I would've expected a player touted as being in the top 3 to be in the best few almost every week. That said, he did show why he will certainly be drafted. He has an amazing vertical leap, and somewhat suprising for the TAC cup, he is extremely unselfish - often too unselfish. He passed the ball from 30m out on a few occasions, in a comp where players would at least be subconciously be playing for their own chances at getting drafted

  16. He is a gun, but what good is it for the future of a club is a stalwart holds on to play another 25-30 games? We need to build a list, not only to get members, but to survive.

Love Yze, but the future has to take place now, we do not want to repeat what carlton did, and dwell at the bottom for 6 seasons. 2-3 seasons, then bang, finals! Wont happen if we give games to the nearly departed.

Deserves a better send off than to call it quits a season early, but the club has been good to him, it is his turn to put the club first.

Fully agree, the club will ask him to retire, and I'd I think he will. Even if a club like Sydney show some interest, I get the feeling he would want to remain a one club player.

  17. I'd say the club would throw White, Jamar, Bell and Carroll on the table, but they wouldn't attract much attention from other clubs. The problem with our trading position is, given our position on the ladder, most of our players would not be rated highly by other clubs, so weare better off trying to develop them rather than offload them.

Players worth a look for the dees would include Mundy (one of the best kicking techniques for a player his size I've seen, despite a previous post), Warnock (a chance in the PSD), maybe Prismall (looks good with the footy, but I'm not convinced he will become a good player), and maybe a relatively untried tall struggling to get a game at a Hawthorn or Brisbane, where their spine is set. If we are after a good skilled, mostly outside midfielder, rather than Prismall, I'd like to get Riggio from North, however I wouldn't have a clue about his contract situation.

Also, I'm going to take the opening post as a joke, and assume it was meant that way.
