  1. Well, good people of Demonland, my last time this season to get up at 5am. Ya know what as [censored] as our season was, it has left me with a little bit of hope for next season. We have a mostly great squad, a couple of changes here and there, could be worse (North, Essendon) I'll look forward to chatting, abusing, agreeing and most importantly having a great group of people to chat to !!

    Enjoy your Summer, keep positive/happy

    All the best,

To be fair, 3 of those were forced due to injury.

Of the remaining 4 (Wagner, OMac, Brown, Spargo), who would you have left in the side?

I could probably make an argument for giving Brown one more shot, but that'd probably be it.

    M.Hibberd, A.vandenBerg, K.Pickett, T.Bedford, B.Preuss, J.Hunt, O.Baker

    It's the ins I'm scared of !

Lack of games ( Bedford, Hunt, Baker, Pickett )

Possible carrying injury ( Pig )

    Unpredictable ( VB, Preuss )

I think it’s more of a case of having a four day break and playing in Cairns. At least that’s what I hope. Fresh legs and all that (although, they should have fresh legs after Thursday’s non-effort).

I hope you're right. It just seems like panic at this stage. I know we were brutal/depressing last week but too many changes make me very nervous. Love the fresh legs quote

  4. I would LOVE to see another Irishman with the team. I know it is a big gamble (skill level, homesickness) There have been some great signings in recent years for other teams but also a lot of non-runners. As a rookie draft, I hope so in the near future, but for the minute I think they should concentrate on home grown and players who are, if not from Victoria, within a close proximity to home. Get the team up and running again.........THEN THE NEXT JIM STYNES

Cornes and his ilk are simply part of the footy talk industry. They are paid to provide opinions. They construct these opinion pieces on the back of a theme or a few issues. An exercise in creative writing nothing more.

Footy talk is just a microcosm of the media at large. Turn on any electronic device and news programs have become a cacophony of talking heads all voicing and shouting opinions, no different than the boys in the pub.

Their opinions are no more valid than any supporter or footy fan. And they are only contracted because they are ex-players not because they are more intelligent, or better informed or have more insight than the bloke in the pub. In most cases they are less intelligent and have less insight than the bloke in the pub.

Comments are made to create a reaction and stir up discussion. And the businesses that engages these bods demand comments and articles that provoke. And the agent provocateur usually can achieve that simple aim. It’s not hard given the insatiable appetite that the mob has for this crap. And we are part of the mob. Reacting, commenting, becoming outraged with people and issues that we should ignore.

Cornes is second rate let’s face it. And that is probably being kind.

As Ron stated earlier, the decision to recruit May and Lever were good decisions at the time. No one criticised the decisions at the time, indeed it was the opposite. We had become a destination club.  Other clubs were chasing them and presumably  were prepared to pay big coin. They were recruited for strategic reasons as part of a plan. The fact that they have spent most of the time on the sidelines does not make the decision to recruit them poor. But so much opinion is based on hindsight, which is stock in trade for Cornes and the footy scribes (never call them experts).

The Harmes deal is arguable but there is no doubt that if he has another good season other clubs would have gone after him. There is not a contract negotiated that is without risk.

My only criticism is the Frost decision and that is debatable. In short, there are differing opinions. With Frost only time will tell.

    Couldn't agree more !!!!!!!!

So much for the soft draw we were hanging our hats on. Going to be very difficult to avoid 0-2 with WC and GWS on the menu to start with.

Although you'd imagine there will be a block or 2 in the season when the fixture eases off for us.

    It's true. A 6 day turnaround........................??????????????????

You can be hard at the contest without copping suspensions or fines.

Apart from a few players, I think we have a list that is more than happy to go hard at it when it's their turn.  I don't think it's a point of concern for us at all.

I agree, last year someone forgot to tell the players

I think you mean “reckless”.  Punching someone in the face or gouging their eyes doesn’t make a player tough. Sniping behind the play isn’t tough. Getting reported isn’t tough, it’s reckless stupidity.

As for being hard, Jack V, May, Melksham and Oliver are “hard” players. Nate Jones,  Jetta and Gus are not afraid of putting their bodies on the line. That’s toughness.

HOLY GOD........at what stage did I mention eye gouging ?  Punching someone in the face ?

" reckless" ? You my man are responsible for that with a comment/presumption like that !!!!

Not sure about harder last year I-D. I think we were smarter and more controlled  when showing aggression. The ‘Unsociable Dees’ of 2017 cost us the 4 points a few times, Lewis, Jesse, Salem and Bernie all copping weeks which didn’t help our cause at all.

That is my point !!!!!!!!!!!   Where did SMARTER and more CONTROLLED get us this year ????

Second last ?...Let's be nice, let's loose with our heads high.........BOLLOX

I agree, but the hardness is /was not there last year. ..........No Mongrel !!!!

He had a good year  in 2018 played well, so he has shown he is up to it but with lever and May hopefully playing a full year he is good depth, and if they don't well there could be trouble.

I rather have all Australian midfielder or forwards then all Australian defenders, Richmond showed that,  with Rance going down, if they did not have Lynch they would not have made top 4. Which brings the point of the post too many defenders.

He had a good year in 2018 because the ball was up in the other end of the ground............I don't think I'm too far wrong

Hopefully we can get Tomlinson to play the swingman type role if need be and he can provide cover in that instance. He’s coming a fair bit cheaper than what old chicken with his head cut off is asking.

On SEN last week Frost said he was waiting to hear from Melbourne on a ‘fresh deal’. He’d been offered one earlier in the season but rejected it.

Tickets-Frost: “Based on my age (26) and the year I’ve had, I imagine there would have been a few phone calls but I don’t know how serious a lot of those phone calls are or aren’t so I’ll just leave that to (manager) Anthony (McConville).”

LOL (chicken head).........Ethan I hope I'm wrong, you say a fair bit cheaper, where/on who is the big money going ?

Oscar can become a better player as stated previously.  See a few posts above.  Whether that happens or not is up to Oscar.  And Petty might come on

But it's our forward line where the bigger problems lie.  Unless we fix that we won't progress far up the ladder

I was concerned about our forward line going into the season and was one of the few here that opened up the possibility that we might regress down to 10 wins because of that.  But 5 wins?  No one picked that.

How people can be happy with T-Mac & Weideman as our KPF's really surprises me.  I'm not sold on either.  Whether we can somehow find an alternative is a big ask too.  Maybe later on in the draft but I still reckon we might make a trade for a tall KPF from elsewhere as a 3rd option.  There's Joel Smith (maybe) but he can't get on the park.

I agree mostly with what you are saying. I just don't trust May and Lever's ability to stay injury free and when they are injured have we got the cover we WILL need. God I hope I'm wrong about O'Mac, and my injury concerns with our back-line.

I think Smith's retirement will prove to be a big loss with the forwards.

Not so sure, I hope you're right. It won't be as scary I suppose.........

We've got about another 20 players in the same category.  C & D graders dominate the list

But you'd never know it reading these threads.  I know the thread is about Frost but we get way too focused on 1 player here.

Frost really isn't the problem.  The list has gone backwards at a rate of knots and the coaching the same.  If we don't get a big influx of real talent we'll be lucky to win 8 games next year.  Forget 2018 - that ship has sailed.

Hibberd is as slow as a wet week,  Jetta is just about done,  Salem has regressed,  May is injury prone and Lever the same.  Hore looks ok.

    Looks good on paper only

Big mistake letting Frost walk, there's no back cover WHEN May and Lever are injured. O/Mac ???? I think not
