Melk is in what I call the advanced rehab group along with Smith, Brayshaw and Hannan.

They were doing multiple 100m runs along the boundary at full pace, full pace agility work, kicking and marking (not Brayshaw).

I've seen players stay in this group for 2 weeks (Tomlinson, Baker) but Smith, Melk and Hannan look ready to go to me although I'd imagine Hannan will be held back for some time given his lack of preseason to date.  My guess is Melk has had a hammy twinge and that they will nurse him for a while to get him really right but if a final was tomorrow he'd play.

Great report BB!Very concise and insightful.

The Age is reporting that Richmond and Rance have come to an agreement to pay out part of his salary that he would have otherwise been paid.

One-sixth of quite a bit: Alex Rance leaves $1.4 million on the table

The result is that Richmond now have buckets of $$$'s available under the salary cap for this year and next.

If this is allowed by the AFL, then you can be sure that Sydney and Collingwood will exploit the same avenue for their 10 and 7 year signings, when they can't make it to the end of their contracts!

Very smart business! Shame we have no million dollar babies to take advantage of it.

My countdown to the footy starts as soon as the Australian Open Tennis is done and dusted.

Once that happens, there’s nothing that stands in the way of the footy.

Unlike some Ernest I actually think we are a good chance in game 1.

    Hope you are right Ernest

Would be a better way of making a relevant statement  to the supporters than all the talk and fluff so far form the players.

Ok I won't post here again suggesting I could  be in such esteemed company.

Just give me back the regular eclectic content that made this the best thread on the site.

I have been suffering from a groin injury and had so much time on my hands that I have been on Dland more than usual. Only now starting active rehab. I have a new and greater appreciation of that injury and its  impact on activity.

Have been considering creating a comedy routine around the injury as mention of it usually results in ,"nudge, ,nudge, wink, wink," type comments and instant laughter. Of course that's only from people who have never experienced one. Any fellow sufferers immediately offer "oh that's painful, that hurts" response. I will be cutting the players a bit more slack when it's reported 4-6 knowing it could be 10-12.

I also D Pos  can attest to the  debilitating effects

Agony to put my socks on in the morning.Treatment Anti Inflammatories and injections and rest rest rest!!!

I can not imagine playing footy and changing directions  at speed with even a mild case

Let's hope Hannan can regain fitness. If Pickett gets more than a token game or 2, we're in big trouble. He couldn't impact U18 games, how is he supposed to impact at AFL level in his first year. He will probably struggle in the VFL too.

SO WE USED PICK 12 FOR A GUY WHO YOU SAY STRUGGLED AT UNDER18's

ONE WOULD ASSUME THAT HE WAS SELECTED ENTIRELY BASED ON POTENTIAL BIG Call

Surely it’s got to be Tom McDonald.

If not him, then Mitch Brown. I’m still stunned that Essendon delisted him. He’s a really decent forward - and they need him.

I find it entirely bizarre. Did he take Mrs Worsfold on a dinner date or something? It doesn’t make sense. I reckon he’ll play 25 games for us in 2020.

Totally agree Ron. Pick up of the year and will certainly pressure Weid for the spot. He is ready to go and will play most games .

On the other matter perhaps he didnt!

    Backline:
    Positives:
     - May, Lever, Jetta et al in full training
     - Harmes a fit runner with versatile ball winning ability

    Concerns:
    - ball use, after Salem and May if Hibberd's fallen away and Jetta's 15 touches most weeks then we aren't getting much quality rebound
    - Oscar
    - depth. Lockhart, Hore, J Smith and maybe Rivers the next group after the initial 7 and there's not a lot proven there

    Midfield:
    Positives:
    - Health. Especially Viney, Gus, Oliver, Gawn
    - Petracca the starting mid
    - Langdon is the hard runner we've needed
    - Vanders? Vanders?

    Concerns:
    - Is the balance of Petracca/Oliver/Viney/Gus still too inside and lacking skills and defensive work
    - 2nd/3rd wing options especially if Tomlinson remains injured or limited
    - 2nd ruck?

    Forward:
    Positives:
    - Fritsch
    - T Mc/Weid/Petty/M Brown/Jackson all competing for tall spots
    - Chandler and Pickett (and even Bedford) putting their hands up as pressure smalls

    Concerns:
     - The lack of pressure from our talls and mid sized guys, none of which are dominant enough in the air not to offer some ground ball work.
    - The inexperience of the crumbers
    - The lack of half forward/mid/wing rotation types with skills. ANB/Jones/C Wagner does not inspire confidence

    Overall
If the coaches get a game plan that works and the players execute then we've got enough in all areas to be a dangerous side with weapons.

But at this stage I still think we lack a bit on each line of the ground to be a top 4 contender. Not quite skilled enough to be a skilled based side. Not quite quick and drilled enough to play with the kind of pressure the Tigers do. And not quite big and powerful at both ends to be like the Eagles or Lions and own the air.

Still, outside of the Tigers it looks a very even competition so if we can get a few early wins and find just what our strength is we could have a very good side but at least bouncing back from last year is probably a reasonable expectation.

A very balanced and well constructed analysis Dee Spencer Great thought provoking reading Thanks!

Which ones are incorrect? The only one which you could argue is speculation would be the tanking and that would probably be because the afl didn't charge us on it. If you take your rose coloured glasses off it's pretty clear we tanked.

I don't think anyone has straight up said the club have not invited Bennell because the truth is none of us know. I think this thread has spiralled into two sides of the fence.

There are two sides to the fence Deefiant. There is no middle ground on any subject discussed on here.

It is obvious on here  on so many levels.

Because people mistakenly thought it was the start of a new millennium because it was the year 2000.

You're still making the same mistake.

I'll dumb it down for you.  The first decade is years 1 to 10.  The second decade is years 11 to 20.  The third decade is years 21 to 30.

The first century is years 1 to 100.  The second century is years 101 to 200.  And so forth.

The first millennium is years 1 to 1000.  The second millennium is years 1001 to 2000.  Etc, etc.

There is no year zero.  The first year is year one.  The hundredth year is year 100.  The thousand year is year 1000.

If you still have doubt, Google it.

Mate you dumbed that down so far even I could get it.

This country is getting dumber by the year.

    Good luck teaching idiots

I assumed he'd be sidelined for the standard 4-5 week calf injury which would have him returning just in time for when everyone breaks up for xmas.

Definitely not an ideal preparation for him.

THAT WOULD BE 4 TO 6 RIGHT??
