On the plus side:
- Much loved champion of our club.
- Loyal, a demon forever.
- Sets off-field standards
- Works hard
- Plays tough football
On the negative side:
- Can't or won't run both ways.
- Does not chase opponent, instead goes ball chasing or 'hands-over' his opp to a team mate who has to leave his man to cover Jones' opp, leaving a free player or sometimes two if he doesn't cover Jones' opp in time.
- Defensive skills are now limited: stats this year for tackles and 1% are woeful.
- When attacking into fwd 50 he rarely hits a target.
- Poor reader of the state of game so is limited in effectiveness as an on field general.
I see someone who is aging, who is showing more 'individual' rather than 'team-first' behaviours. He may be preserving himself (purely speculation) or he may just be physically worn out from almost single handed carrying our club.
Do the negatives outweigh the positives? In the past a resounding 'No'. For the future I fear they do.
We need senior players and especially captains to set an example for expected on-field behaviours and to engender confidence in their charges that if we get into a hole during a game the captains know how to digs us out of it.
I can't see Jones overcoming the negatives so I feel it is time to hang up the boots. When? End of this year. It means he ends his wonderful career about 15 games short of 300 and without a flag. Sadly, just like a former #2.
He will always be an immortal at mfc.
I imagine Jones will have to be dragged kicking and screaming into retirement but I trust Goodwin to have the hard conversations, like Clarkson has.
2020 will be a write off let’s get him to 300

I must admit I questioned Frost coming out to confront Darcy Parish leaving him an easy pass to someone at the city end. But Frost had the last laugh as he kicked a point.
Which worked out really funny at the final siren

Until we can confirmed facts that they are being overworked, at this stage i just feel it is a cop out. These guys are paid sporting professionals and should be versatile to change in training programs.
Besides, training reports we have had on here is there hasn't been nothing out of the ordinary in terms of preparation or doing a heavy extra work load etc.
Does football track things like CTL and ATL and TSS to target macro meso and micro peaks like cycling does ?

IIRC a few posters bought up 2-way running as a gap last year also

ANB, Jones and Viney. A trio of wombats. Strong and good at rooting around the bottom of packs but slow in pace, execution and mind with limited skills. We can’t win with those three passengers the way they are playing. The others have more upside.
Gooey chewy and not hot and Spicey wombats

I think Frost stays to play on Franklin, but either way we are in all sorts.

If guys like David King and Reiwoldt are seeing this in the flesh then surely Goody is in the same boat.
Oscar just needs to go.. plain and simple. Casey, Oak Park, Frankston... anywhere!

I am srsly disappointed you couldn’t slot the early 90s Manangatang 1sts in there. Total sizzle.
Ouyen had a mean streak AND the Dees colours (their pies weren’t as good as they didn’t serve those soft flakey lake boga pies but do stuff em) and the less said about Sea Lake the better

The Petracca summed up his season thus far.
We need to win next week or it’s season over. Only 3 teams in 100+ years have won the flag from 0-3.
Please advise - were any of them Melbourne

You hope to get four goals s quarter Bloody not four goals for the whole game !
Bit unfair though
wet, surgeries, we forget how to resemble ourselves, we didn’t know when the season started, no one could get the BOM forecast etc etc

My favourite part of this season is the end of it
