  1. I watched this game today focusing on Maric and Bell

Firstly, before you have a go at me, take in to consideration that the team got belted today and the conditions did not suit Maric at all. He made countless errors with ball by hand and foot. This was not his fault though as he had nothing to kick to. His work ethic was down this week, but IMO we have to be patient with the kid and give him time.

I've always been a believer in Bell since he's been at the club. His Hunger for the footy today was something that caught my eye. He really had a red hot go and was deservedly named best for casey. Not one other player showed the hunger for the footy that Belly did. His body looked in great shape. The way he bursted into packs and got the ball out was one of the only positives i witnessed during this pathetic performance from Casey. His awareness wasn't exposed today but his disposal which has been criticized at times was in fact very good today. He set up PJ's goal and consistently made the right decision when the ball was congested. I still think he has a future at the Dees. He might be in line for a recall if he keeps up this form.

  2. After todays perfromance I can't see any changes taking place unless someone got injured. Newton IMO did enough to warrent selection next week. Scully was quiet but shouldn't be dropped. Garland was solid without being outstanding and Bartram played a very good game. If sylvia is fit for next week i'd expect one of the following players mentioned above to be omitted. It'll be a tough call for the selection panel later in the week. Go Dees!

  3. Forget about that. Despite winning a massive amount of the ball, almost every single one of his kicks tonight has been long to the forward-line, whereupon it is marked by a St. Kilda player and swept effortlessly back where it came from. If he lowers his eyes a bit, his possessions might be a little more effective.

I understand where you are coming from i'm but stressing the fact that O'brian is consistantly taking the man on the mark out of the play, allowing the collingwood player with the ball to play on and run free. it is not acceptable and should be looked at.

  4. Hi guys, i haven't posted in a while but there is one thing that is bothering me at the moment about Harry O'brian. As good a player he is, HE IS CONTINUOUSLY BLOCKING THE MAN ON THE MARK (FROM THE OPPOSITE TEAM) FROM ATTEMPTING TO RUN AT THE GUY WHO HAS THE BALL. The Foxsports commentators last week highlighted the fact that it is unacceptable act, yet O'brian continues to do what he wants. I'm watching the STK vs COLL game on tv tonight and he continues to do as he pleases. On one occasion he got penalised by the umpires but 10 minutes later he did it again!!.

  5. Jeremy Dukes was drafted to Carlton in 1999. Had a solid Pre-Season but did an ACL and got delisted the next year. He was built like Tony Lockett but injuries got the better of him.

Julian Kirzner played Played 1 AFL game for Essendon and 3 for North Melbourne before He did an ACL as well. Hereminds me of Max Bailey because after recovering from his ACL he did it two more times before eventually retiring in his early twenties. He never really got the chance to prove himself at either club. He was a very talented Full Forward.

Other than these boys, Ezra Poyas and Todd Goldstein are the other Jews to have played AFL.

P.S - Not many people know this but Chris Judd actually has a Jewish Grandparent.

  6. Matthew Panos

    Serhat Temel

    Majak Daw

    Daniel Archer

    Dylan Grimes

    Joe Dare

These are all KPP's that we should target in the Rookie Draft. Personally, i think that there is absolutely no use redrafting Meesen as we have just drafted two ruckmen in Gawn and Fitzpatrick. All these KPP's were expected to be drafted so imo the Dees should take a gamble on one of them.

  7. Its been confirmed on SEN now by Liam Pickering that he will start pre-season training with the club on monday morning.

I have a feeling we will pick up Thorp  . Hopefully the coaching staff can turn him into a good player.

  8. Bennell did a medial ligament, Martin injure his calf in the 2nd qtr and took no further part, Whelan injured his foot and Rivers also limped off at the end of the game. So all these players are possible. So most likely there will be no omitted players out of this clash even though newton was horrible.

    Ins: Buckley, Sylvia, Morton, Hughes

Outs: Bennell (Knee), Martin (Calf), Whelan (foot) Rivers?

  9. Gee...this thread makes me laugh.

I know this bloke hasn't played a game yet. But there is a chance he could debut this week. The majority of Melbourne supporters cant wait for to see him in the red and blue. His name is Liam Jurrah.

    Liam Jurrah

    Number: 48

    Height: 191

    Weight: 81

    http://www.melbournefc.com.au/players/play...78&typeid=2

Now, going by what freak says, he has a less chance of making it because he is in the "191-192cm" height range and in the "Lynden Dunn" mold. And if he was in the "194-195" category he would've been a top 5 draft pick?

Well IMHO that's absolute rubbish. The recruiting team picked Jurrah up NOT based on his height but on his football ability.

Im not going to get ahead of myself saying that Jurrah is going to be a great player but based on what we've seen so far he looks the goods.

Enforcer25 gave you a list of players in your "weird height range" that have proved to be very good players.

    Matthew Scarlett

    Nick Riewoldt

    Sam Fisher

    Chad Cornes

    Matthew Lloyd

    Ben Rutten

    Matthew Pavlich

    Jarryd Roughead

    Scott Lucas

    Nathan Bock

    Fevola (191)

    Goddard (191)

By the end of the day freak is right by saying that a lot of these players don't make it but there are plenty of players who become elite footballers. Morabito's bad kicking style can easily get fixed. As for his height....read what Dappa Dan has to say. I couldn't have put it better myself.

Your problem is that you get a big head of steam up as soon as you get an idea in your head. Usually it involves numbers, like possessions, heights, weights etc etc... And sometimes it involves what you "like" to see on the screen when a player is taking a kick.

The thing is, once you decide a layer has a fault, you write them off.

Morabito may fall into a weird non-category with his height, but you're not being realistic by calling it anything more than a "minor fault." Plenty of good players play and are around that height. Plenty of good players grow after being drafted.

I think i've justified my point.

  10. Bell basher's... God do they annoy me. Bell has twice the kicking skills, speed and awareness as someone like Bate.

Bell has earned his spot in the side and he is a great player who had a bad run of form last year.

Bell is so much better than people make out on this forum. I find it ridiculous with the amount of slagging he gets.

I really hope this week he shows people why he was picked.

Couldn't agree anymore. I'm sick and tired of people judging players and criticizing players like bell. Give him a chance!

He's had a terrible run with injuries of late so you have no right to bag and complain about him until he's played a game or two. Many of you were saying Garland was one of the worst players to put on the MelbourneFc jumper....and now look at him. I can't wait for him to play a good game this week to prove people like DemonTraveller wrong!

where should bell play, he`s not a forward or a mid and backs are holding their own, settling nicely as a unit.

You will see him probably playing as a defensive midfielder this week or he might push forward depending on the matchups.

  11. Bell signed a two year deal at the end of the year. He wont be delisted.

Dunn at this rate will should be delisted. Unless he turns his career around (by playing up forward where he looks at his best) his time will be up. Otherwise its too early to make any decisions coz its only round 7.

  12. Superb. Bennell showed yet again today that (only in his 1st season) that he will be a great player for the club. Not only did he win the ball, his kicking under pressure and the ability to have the confidence to take players on was very good. With a few more pre-season under his belt in the years to come he will be a vital player if we want to achieve success.

  13. Melbourne

B: Lynden Dunn, Matthew Warnock, Jared Rivers

HB: James Frawley, Stefan Martin, Brock McLean

C: Jamie Bennell, Aaron Davey, Clint Bartram

HF: Matthew Bate, Colin Sylvia, Cale Morton

F: Brad Miller, Ricky Petterd, Brent Moloney

Foll: Paul Johnson, Cameron Bruce, Brad Green

I/C: John Meesen, Kyle Cheney, Nathan Jones, Neville Jetta

Emg: Jake Spencer, Michael Newton, Addam Maric

    In: Meesen, Dunn

    Out: Spencer, McDonald

  14. Last year we had Whelen, Wheatley, Bell and Davey taking the kick ins and even though we were terrible as a team, THEY ACTUALLY HIT THEIR TARGETS! 95% of the time. This year we have first and second year players (Garland and Cheney) who dont have the composure just yet, and when the team is under pressure they turn the ball over. Imo i think davey should be taking all the kick ins and even warnock could be an option. I remember last year when we bombed it long it was quite effective as either Jamar or Jeff White took a pack mark and we got a goal out of it. This year all i can think of is either Garland or Cheney just chipping it to the (back) pockets and from there we were lucky to get it past the centre line.

We desperatly need a solution with our kick-ins coz in the last quarter today i was relieved when a player wearing red and blue actually got hold of the ball from the kick in.
