  1. IMO Green should and I hope NEVER will be captain of Melbourne. He typifies that group of Melbourne players that are not hard-enough, and are absolute front-runners. We can't have these players our captain, it's bad enough having them run around embarass us week after week, (although I will admit he has been better of recent) but he is no where near captain material. Mclean is my preference, or James McDonald deserves it. JM is one of the hardest working underrated rovers going around. However I don't think the captaincy is as important as our next coach, our trades and picks, and our preseason...
  2. how can you say this? i can't remember the last time yze contributed to any sort of on-field success, i'm not even sure if he's still playing for us? if he's still got a couple of years left in him, we should be offering him very little to try and motivate him, e.g. 1 year performance based contract, or indeed try and pick up someone with a spine, some courage and desire to run out there and win!
  3. paul gardiner was on footy classified, 'beat the press' early in the season, not sure when.
  4. that's brilliant yze_magic! let's make it happen! i would love for nothing more than that to happen.
  5. I've been a member since 2000, I don't go to a lot of games though. Unfortunately I'm always took hungover for a Saturday game. Sundays I like to lay on the couch. I have been to at least half a dozen this year, and watched us loose all of them bar Collingwood. It is hard to go and watch such a soft, up-and-down team play. I can't remember the last time I watched them lead after the first quarter, and go on with it. If we win, we always come from behind, and it's usually the result of an 8-10 goal quarter, why we can't do that all the time? Very frustrating sometimes and maybe why I found myself missing the last couple. I am going Sat'd night...would love to watch a win.
  6. has the fact that his taken on the role as ambassador for the AFL affected his prospect of coaching next year?
  7. add adding to that, i think he should be traded for a decent CHF or CHB. maybe a ruckman? ...can you trade a small for a tall in the AFL? who's got excessive talls that needs a small?
  8. don't talk rubbish bluey, bell is an AA backman in the making that's interesting, considering we do have a lot of very simular players like him, i.e. jones, mclean, moloney, and moloney could play a pocket just as well as silvia, and hopefully after recovering from his injury will stay injury free, unlike silvia who gets injured hailing a taxi. could be an option for 2008.
  9. agreed, don't think he has the fitness but would otherwise be a good idea
  10. how can you put sylvia on the ball before Jones? Jones is much better on the ball than Sylvia. Sylvia would ONLY just slot into a forward pocket at the moment
  11. yeah we have one of the best drafters and scouts going around, let's hope he doesn't want to interfere too much in this aspect, however he has won 4 premierships (? - or is it five) in his time, and football has changed immensely in that time, do you think he is pre-empting another shift? He is a genious! How many Aboriginals did the 2000 side have in it?
  12. I've coped one too many beratings from Essendon supporters, those people think they are bigger than football. Would love their coach (the only Essendon coach in their time) to come over and help us win a flag. That would make me more happy than seeing Eddie go bankrupt, and Collingwood get eaten alive by a bunch of hungry Bigfoots.
  13. heard other club people talking about this guy, what's his story? potential?
  14. indeed we were, not sure why he's wasting freemantle's time, i'm sure he will stay in melbourne as he has stated. but i still think he'll go to richmond, he's too passionate not to, having played there, etc. would love him to come to melbourne, as he has said though, it's just a matter of him fitting in with the people there. I hope he walks in there, falls in love, and says, 'i'd love to work here for 27 years!'
  15. I like your signature Jaded, always been a fan of Bell. Is this forum for blowing smoke up our own arses?
  16. totally absurd getting rid of the above three, and as others have said, TJ needs to get back to the form of last few years if we're to be a chance next year, robbo needs to build defensively, etc. and Bruce, well he was going to be captain a little while ago. Don't you hate players that come from another club on big bucks, have a couple of good years, then milk their expensive long-winded contracts at the expense of the footy club? I'm looking at you Bizzel...
  17. settle down baz. we do have a few hot-heads on the board, as illustrated by Daniher's sacking, but in actual fact maybe that was proactive in trying to get first 'dibs' at a new coach. although it seems somehow we are not front runners, we will have to wait and see.
  18. Apart from a lot of other things, I think the greatest asset Sheedy will give the Demons, is weeding out 'soft-coc.ks' like J. White, B. Green and a few others, while turning players like Johnstone into consistent and strong performers. He doesn't accept mediocrity, nor any half-hearted attempts to play the great game. I really hope it coaches, and coaches for a number of years at this club, by-george we need something or somebody to get in there with a serious bit of passion and motivation. Oh I say, 'Go Dees'.
  19. yeah i think it can be simplistic maurie if you take it simply as 'bulking up', or putting on body mass. what i think the point is that many players in the MFC are WEAK, i.e. they get knocked off/ over/ away from contests far too easily and it looks pathetic, because it is!
  20. well said dazzle, time spent in the gym for all melbourne players under daniher was NOT good enough. players these days need to carry a bit of extra weight for reasons stated, absolute madness that our strongest guys are weaker than some of the umpires...e.g. i saw ryan ferguson get out arm-wrestled by ray chamberlin on the weekend
  21. I think you're a bit harsh on nathan brown, he should have been all-australian a couple of years back, and i think this year he has gone a long way in getting some of that old form back. Mad-Dog would be a good mentor for some of the younger guys coming through, works-hard, is hard at the ball and never gives up. I think he does a lot for our backline as well, in terms of setting up attacks. johnstone is again a dissapointment this year, after a couple of really good years achieving his much anticipated promise, he has slidden again. he should go, if we're going to change our culture of accepting mediocrity, (spelling?) we should trade those three players you mentioned baz. although again i think bizzel might be a benefit for us, if he can get fit again, he would be instrumental down back, a big agile body. and as he ages, we can bring him down forward again like he was at geelong. by that time newton will have kicked 300 goals, and bizzel could be of great assistance. this is my first post, so i want to say, daniher was awesome! the reverand had some strange affinity with the drink bottles, and a slightly 'drunk' sense of humour, but i think he was successful in some areas, and lacked in others, a broad generalisation i know...i think what stands out is the fact that he saw us to two very unsuccesful finals campaigns, the most gutting was losing to essendon in the first final, players like green, johnstone, yze, white are allowed to be soft as butter and maybe should have been tought how to toughen up, and string a couple of games together, but the fact is, we were in those finals, he coached one of the most unlikely bronlow mediallists, and he has enormous respect! a pity gardiner didn't haven't! anyway, we have got a good list of players, and bit of a [censored]-weak culture, and a definant lack of supporters going to the games. I hope next year we can get some good things happening in all these areas! go dees
