  1. Hopefully he makes a full recovery. I was 95% chance of complete cure and then 4 years after that it came back. It is an insidious disease and not to be underestimated. From the sound of it he should recover well. It is a disease that impacts both physically and mentally and the timing after losing his father is tragic. Football for him is secondary, get well Jesse, enjoy life and be strong.
  2. reminds me of the day Trenners got done for sling tackle on Dangerfield he did time - Dangerfield played next week lol!
  3. Good call, except the AFL have shown how farken vindictive they can be. That's the problem... Gardiner once said to me "Can't fight city hall" unfortunately he was not far wrong....life sucks at times but we just gotta keep on doing. If the dishlickers can win a premiership then we can!
  4. Carlton are a bunch of wankers, glory days long gone glad to see them lose.My old demon scarf had the bloodstains of a blueboy on them, the day we went top in 88' beating them at Princes Park.
  5. EXactly! [censored] this soft [censored] go watch the EFL or Yarra Valley.. We were always going to get done no matter what -, Lewis has a bad record, as soon as he farted in a demon guernsey he would go - last time we were a bunch of bad boys we were playing finals year in year out - Grinter, O'Dwyer, Viney, Bailey, Yeats, Hughes, Chiron, Fidge - plenty of bad asses. Either play bruise free footy or get stuck in - we have the depth.. you cannot always have your cake and eat it..I'd rather take the suspensions and walk tall than be accused of bruise free footy and get hysterical over a keyboard how soft we were.
  6. Good luck Dunny if you do indeed move on as expected, a great servant of the club, loyal to a fault. Enjoyed the chats down at Casey over the years. All the best
  7. Fantastic news, glad he has committed , wish him and his family all the best
  8. I was rapt with Roos' appointment, felt it was needed after the disasters that preceded him as coach, felt he at least built a platform to launch from in future years, and brought in excellent line & development coaches but I cannot dispute your logic here - there is a lot of Northey at MFC 86-88 in the way Beveridge energised his team. The players send off for Roos was a 100 + point belting..
  9. Amazing game, I was dark on the dishlickers earlier in the week after the VFL GF but that was well done today- ....
  10. We need to develop talent locally not interstate, it needs to not just go back to the days of zoning but the excess of money needs to go onto funding Victorian club academies, my son is 15 years old, 6'2, 93 kg bull but because of stagnant development at his previous club he now is only beginning to develop with the right coaching.. Should have moved him earlier but they are loyal to their team mates of the time.. Don't know how far he'll get , been told he has the ability to make VFL or other state leagues given he remains injury free etc....The thing is if there was better recourse to academies and zoning, the identification of prospective talent and development gets taken out of the local leagues & TAC and into the academies. The TAC is a factory nothing less, too many kids not enough resources (Know of 3 missed by TAC gone to Melb Storm and Melb Victory in the last year) but Vic AFL clubs are denied the right to nurture and grow their own talent from within the state. So many junior clubs are now unable to field teams of differing age groups through lack of numbers- the advent of basketball, soccer and non sport activities.. AFL, cricket, tennis all suffering in our area.. Spoken to many coaches, club officials and parents over the journey and the decline is there for all to see... Time for the AFL to concern themselves with their own backyard rather than their corporate shizenhousen up in GWS and their international fantasies. Local development, zoning, for the Vic clubs should be on a higher agenda for Vic youth. This is a personal opinion,I understand others will have different view --I can only state what I have seen and heard at junior level. I'm still recovering fro surgery so I hope this is coherent enough!
  11. Yeh 88' ,what a year of highs and lows .......... lost the Granny had to put up with brown and yellow [censored] inside the G and outside it, and 2000- lucky I was in the UK, thats' all I can say.
  12. It's going to be a long week, but we just have dished up a lack of effort in the 3rd quarter.. 8 goals to none is just insipid. Never been fond of the dishlickers.
  13. Done well at Casey this year, I thought he would be a no brainer for the club to rookie list as Max King looks done.. Came thru the EFL I think to Casey originally..
  14. Given our recent history and how others in the competition and media view us, perhaps if we make finals next year it will become easier for players to contemplate us as a choice of destination club in the same vein as the Hawthorns, Geelongs and Collingwoods of this world. Mitch Clark was a "major signing" years ago to come to Melbourne, whereas Judd declined the offer. Is Peter Moore the last true A grader of some standing to come to the Red n blue? I struggle to think of any since then...Wilson was not a star when he came across. The big perceived appeal of Carlton, Richmond, Essendon is their part of the "Big 4" image from the VFL and their capacity to pull big crowds when they are up and about and the amount of blockbusters that they play in compared to us and the Dogs for instance. People are right to question this perception as still relevant in the current AFL as the recent track records of these 3 big clubs are nearly as bad as ours.
  15. I can't work it out, the goal posts change every year with the corporate suits at Docklands fudging it as they go along.
  16. Thanks! I must admit It's taken a few years to take the plunge
  17. Yeh pretty rational point of view, although I don't believe the club would be looking to pressure him to making a decision within the next few weeks in anycase, it's just not in line with what has been said by Goodwin and co recently, but now I'm speculating lol
  18. Hi fellow Demons, Just wanting to pass on a chance encounter I had at the Carlton game, it does not serve as an indicator to whichever path young Jesse chooses but it might fill gaps in for some..... I bumped into Tom Hogan , Jesse's dad at the G. A really down to earth bloke, we had a chat and I wished him the best. I did not ask him the obvious, felt it would be a betrayal of his trust as he started the conversation with me. The striking thing with Tom is he looks quite old, he had been suffering from some illness - you can tell, I should know, the last 6 years I have battled cancer (hopefully beaten it) and my body is significantly farked as a result of it..We joked about the weather, talked about Perth and there is no doubt that young Jesse loves MFC and has strong bonds. His father was also pretty happy with the club. As has already been stated, it will come down to whether he wants to be home with his Dad and family or stay with his mates at the club and that is it in a nutshell.
