Most coaches do some sort of apprenticeship before coaching at AFL.
Even just going to another club to be exposed to different cultures, thinking, strategies etc is really important.
It was a very strange choice but fits in with "the love boat theme"

7 hours ago, whatwhat say what said: the biggest issue with the slow ball movement play is that it allows teams to set up defensively, and when we - inevitably - turn it over, they're able to hit us on the counter with speed and quick ball movement
the style of play we are trying to execute doesn't work with our current team make-up
i'm not sure if it's a fitness issue per se, but it's certainly a team make-up and game plan one
For sure, I was watching the huge difference in ball movement between ourselves and GC.
Turnover in our forward line meant instant running in packs into attack by GC
When we got control on our half back line through marks etc, we would always just stop, prop and then kick over the mark to a bunch of players not really moving at all.
We looked like witches hats on the few long views I could see via the TV when we had possession.
Our lack of movement and hard running in waves must have looked horrific for those at the game.

The players sure didn't show much love toward him or his grand plan. Nor to each other.
I was proud of the team in week 1, gave them a mulligan last week; today they were abysmal š.
Lube? Talking about next week's game?

Mind you, doing an interview after youāve been spanked for the second week in a row and openly admitting heās out of form with a number of other teammates, wouldnāt be wonderful.
I think he knows what might be on the line if there's another big loss.
If they truly do love their coach which they seem to , they're playing him straight towards a cliff.
It's pretty horrible for all involved I'd imagine.
I just can't see us turning things around anytime soon.

Surely next week has to be the coach killer.
Why wasn't Langford been playing from round 1?
AJ and Sharp combined well for a goal when we really needed it and then both benched.

I disagree he has lost the players. He (and the rest of this forum) is asking the players to play to a game plan they are simply not capable of at AFL level consistency.Ā
Bowey kicks through the centre to avoid down the line 'boredom'. Turnover goal.Ā Woewodin asks for a handpass through the centre to avoid down theĀ line "boredom' . Turnover goal.Ā Langdon switches to avoid down the line 'boredom" . Turnover goal.Ā Amd when we are going through the centre, Viney, Oliver and Sparrow are bombing it to Norf's spare.Ā Ā What did supporters expect. The list was built for contest and defence not skills and transition.Ā Some weeks it will work. Some weeks we will get slaughtered. Welcome to the 2025 season.Ā
I tend to agree with this.
Anyone in any job where they've implemented a new process and all it does is create mistakes, frustration and chaos most of the time, tend to throw their hands in the air and not give it their all when it's obvious it's just not working.
It's human nature.
That's what I saw after half time.
the players love Goody and that's a foundation stone for the team and that's great.
What I don't know and what most of us probably don't know completely is....
Is it the right system?
Can we execute it properly with enough practice?
Do we have the right skills to execute?
Do we have the right players to execute?
What worries me most is the first two questions.
If the system / process works, the belief, enthusiasm and effort grows amongst the playing group. When it doesn't, they drop their heads. JVR looked completely disillusioned by half time.
Playing soccer instead of drilling drop punts from 40 metres out at 45 degrees (not trick shots from the boundary in their spare time)?
The f50 entry process has been busted for three years now. Seriously, this worries me. This is not one match this is 3 seasons of failure.
Spreading hard and fast through the corridor from the contest and keeping possession? (I love Jonsey but was is he the right coach to teach this style?)
Defending the counter attack when turn overs occur?
We may not have the perfect squad but I suspect the system we're trying to transform into is well and truly broken.
That's how a club loses players.

Hard to come up with any positives from this hot mess of a game.
A few of my observations:
- Our much vaunted midfield, Max included got handed a beating.
- Our defence got handed a beating.
- Our forwards, except for Chandler, are still trying to find the ground let alone the ball.
- No teamwork or connection.
- Little evidence of any on-ground leadership.
Where to from here? the coaches do not sound like they have any answers. Giving the team a collective cuddle and making them feel loved does not look like an effective gameplan.
We could try goal kicking practice and a bit of endurance training. we missed a lot of kickable goals today and looked to run out of (interest and) puff in the last quarter.
Looking forward to less of a mess next week.
I can live in hope.
Ā
That's the thing right.
Casey blew the game against North in the VFL through really bad conversion.
It is and has been so bloody obvious for so many years.
Ultimately Goody is responsible for the coaching team he puts around him, the training and skills development and the game plan.
The players look completely lost and 5 wins from the last 17 spells a complete crisis.
It's all very sad

The competition is gong one way and we have remained stagnant with an outdated game plan and list build for said outdated game plan. Its infuriating to watch.
I really feel for our forwards, they get given no chance to play to their strengths coz Goody is so obsessed with repeat entries and stoppages inside 50 rather than finding multiple ways to score. Ā Fritsch in particular has being killed by Goody.
JVR was thoroughly dejected by half time.
Jesse Hogan V2 at this rate.
Boundary line running all day was so depressing to watch today

Why doesn't JVR ever lead? Petracca goes down there in Q3, leads and gets a free. JVR waits at the back of the pack, waiting for the big bomb, which he never marks ( he's a two-grabber). Turner leads occasionally, but JVR.....
He's really melted down today. Got the body language of a young Jessie Hogan.
He'll come good once he's elsewhereĀ

Gawny hooks on the run too haha.Ā Needs to aim for the right post every time
The selfish bugger needs to dish it off. He had a team mate off to his left with a paddock then.
Gawn is not a goal kicker and keeps fancying himself that he is. Not good leadershipĀ

CASEY: Rd 03 vs Geelong VFL
in Melbourne Demons
How was that a free kick against AJ on the wing?
I actually think he goes ok and at least competes well.
