May moved forward?
Yea agreed it was great to see Petty playing where he is so much more suited. It didn't work with Petty playing fwd so it may not work with May. Also our backline wasn't really stretched too much with the likes of Hogan not playing and the inclement weather. However people forget that May has played fwd before with the GCS. Also he is much stronger than Petty and would not get moved out of position as easily as Petty was at times. I just think it wouldn't hurt giving it a try. Thanks RbG.

May moved forward?
Been quite a few references to this. Since Petty has shored up our backline once again and we stopped Gws from accumulating a big score, can we move May forward? Keen to do a survey. I'd be happy to give it a go if Fritta is struggling and we need Jvr in the middle more. And off to the circus.........

Your right, I'm howling down the suggestion of moving Petty back to the fwd line again. Surely that experiment is well and truly over. And very much to no avail. I agree with bringing in Disco and yea Jvr is a better ruck option. But saying Jeffo has no intensity is interesting. Go and watch some of his tackles. They were absolutely watertight. Houdini could get out of one of those. Agreed on Spargo. I'm keen to see what he can still offer. There have been a few calls to try May forward. Given your own view on the expertise of Tmac, maybe the switch of Petty for May is worth a try. May comes back for sure but who makes way for Disco? Frittas on thin ice but it's hard to drop our leading goal kicker.

It's a fair call. Spargo and Nibbler kicked 25 goals each in 21 . With Anb gone and Kp suspended it really made a difference. Sparticus has often been played out of position . He's best keeping up in a fwd pocket to pick up the crumbs from Roo smashing the packs. Chandler has shown glimpses of super skills but he's definitely not consistent. And yes Brown jnr is definitely someone to get excited about. You were right about Jeffo so I'm sure your right about pup.

I reckon people who haven't played the great game underestimate just how taxing the opening round is. Nothing can really prepare you for that degree of pace and energy requirements. Gws were better for having a game under their collective belts and I think it was the difference in the end. The final analysis around these parts seems to be that we did very well. Most of us acknowledged pre game how good a side the giants are and that they are giants in the department of run and carry. We did so very well to match them . In some senses it was a win. I think we played better and we also had a great many young players on debut. How wonderful to see them join the elite club of first goal in first game. There were quite a few unlucky bounces and interesting calls by the umps and the usual suspects in set shots. While we both had players out of we had probably one of the closest clones of T.G. in K.P. not playing. So add all these factors up and my math makes for four points. Theres been a bit of debate re Fritta. I don't want him dropped like some but perhaps he gets a run on the wing or in the backline again. Just in the first quarters to get his mojo going. He's what I deem an 'on or off ' player and I think it may come down to confidence levels. The other changes posters have alluded to is swinging May up fwd and with Petty excelling back where he belongs, it's probably not a bad idea. Alas he's injured so not so much an issue. Maybe Jeffo will keep building and Jvr will stand tall. Or Disco show us a few moves if he's up and about. Again, going back to the overall calculations....with our three power forwards in Jvr...one goal....Fritta no goals...and Kozzie sidelined we so could have, would have, should have😀. And speaking of changes, I'm guessing by your no reply , you don't consider moving Bowser up fwd as a crumber. I will say he seemed to be more like his old self. Lastly , last season we lost five games by less than a goal, including one to Gws. Perhaps a revision of our final five min strategy is in order and I dare say a decent amount of set shot rehearsals for the captain. Bring on the thrashing of North this week and the Jeffo bandwagon. Toot toot.

I agree. Turner is no established certainty. But we definitely missed him. While Jvr and Jeffo are good prospects they are your classic run and leap and not really the type to stand in the middle of a pack and hold marks. Turner is really the only option we have that we can use. We could rob our backline again with maybe May since we did well without him there, but that's about it.

Problem is PF, we really have no suitable replacement that's capable of kicking two and a half goals a game. Fritta has been one of our leading Coleman projects for years now. Let's not forget his bag in the flag. Is Milkshake available? A fit Jake would probably be the best alternative and match up I don't dispute his form has been poor. He didn't seem to have a very good 2024. The scuttlebutt says he was injured. Last year I saw him jogging after opponents way too often. He lacked intensity and I think your mate Jeffo showed how one applies forward to pressure that cracked a few ribs. And his tackles stick like a rusty pipe wrench covered in Tarzan's grip. I don't think Fritta has that strength. I've also noticed he is mostly on or off and he needs to find more consistency. Perhaps it's a mindset where in a game of low performance, he struggles to shake it off and it becomes a fait accompli. The club has been really slack in bolstering our fwd line. I'm not sure about Jvr. He's shown glimpses of greatness but last year he didn't seem to progress. I still think he's going to be very good player but this is the year to break out. I have high hopes for Turner but he is still an unknown. Jeffo is probably the new hope. Boy do we need him to perform. Let's hope he continues to score. Also what is worrying is in 2021 we had Spargo and Nibbler backing up Kozzie to help us kick some high score....now we don't. Now all we have is Chandler and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks he's overrated Petty is back where he belongs and showed us why he should stay there. He was never a fwd. But who can we replace him with? So many of us have here have been shouting for a big bodied experienced tall fwd. But no go. Let's just keep relying on our backline to win games. Alas against a good side this just doesn't work. We did very well yesterday and had ample i50s to provide opportunities. Our known fwds produced only three majors with Jeffo accounting for two third of them😀. I would swing Milkshake in there pronto and tell Fritta to get his act together. I would also prefer young Bowey in there too as a crumber. Ps bonus points for the word ....... Pusillanimous.

Good analysis. I think Gws are serious contenders for a flag this year. I think we outplayed them with a team of quite a few young and inexperienced players that made a great account of themselves. Fritta and Jvr had very quiet games and I think together only provided one goal between them so that didn't help. It was good to see Petty back in the backline but as I've mentioned on a few of my posts our forward line is and has been a real weakness for three years now. It's no secret I hope Jeffo can change this. Is Melksham up and about?
