  1. Only when it's an insipid effort after he's ducked his head. In his 7th year.

Christian Salem played 10 games. He had a chance to vote in 9 of them, because he was injured in the first quarter of his 7th game and didn't return to the field.

    Jack Watts played 20 games.

Christian Salem finished higher in the B&F. Less than half the finished games and polled higher. In his second year.

So forget criticising fans like me, who think he's as useful as a cold pie, his own coaches reckon he's pathetic. I'm critical of the coaches for playing him in 20 games, because clearly they weren't rating his performances.

The guy won't be at the club in 12 months time.

Don't think I criticised fans at all. You have every right to whinge about him.

Was comparing Watts to Dawes as they both put in shockers consistently yet Watts every mistake is magnified.

I hope he can improve and add value, I think 3rd man up will be his thing this year. Otherwise he gets flicked, easy.

  2. Watts will play as the 3rd man up a lot this year, I expect there'll be some tinkering with the structure with the 4 man interchange and 90 rotations.

Watts will never be a forward, he cannot lead into the right space. He reads the ball much better off the boot defensively. He is also a very good decision maker when he's got the ball in space. We don't have many...

Unfortunately Jack is not a natural footballer and his development has been stunted due to the Dees debacle over last 6 years. He'd be a much better player right now at a successful club. But in saying that I think he has great scope for improvement this year with much more of the focus on the team and not individual players. Jack has shown great character to still be at AFL level after the clubs poor development of him and the constant negativity towards him from both inside and out.

He may not play every game but he must be in our 22 to start the season.

If we're having the same conversation next year though then…...

  3. Great recruit for what we paid for him

But I watched him closely this year and some games he just wasn't mentally out there. At all. That worries me.

Next season i'd like to see some better kicking and consistency as he could be an elite small forward. But credit where credits due to both club and player. Well done.

  4. Someone is going to have to take intercept marks this year off half back, Cross and Howe gone means we're a bit light in that area.

Personally I think he's OK, you know what you're going to get from him. He might only have one more year left. No other club will probably take him so give him a one year deal.

If White and Oscar Mc surpass him it's win win. Even if he ends up at Casey it's good to have blokes like that in the team for development etc.

  5. Some players need continuity, he has had none. Another fail by the MFC.

If he is used to catch a bigger fish then so be it. Not sure Port have draft picks to offer with Dixon going there.

Don't trade for another Michie, Newton, Lumumba, Riley. Better to get another Vandenberg from somewhere I reckon.

  6. Watts doesn't play tall. He never has. For someone of his height he is an awful contested mark - I dare say Jesse has taken more contested marks in his first season than JW has in his entire career. He's nothing more than an awkward sized, soft, outside mid.

Yeah I agree with you, he's not a key position tall. He might be used as a quasi ruck man this year as the sub rules gone.

  7. There's been a lot of talk of Watts leaving, even when his manager confirmed he'd be at the Dees for 2016 and he's on the memberships and calendars.

As much as i'm disappointed with Watts, you don't give away talls. Stef Martin is an example. (Except Dawes which i'd swap for a cold pie)

We just have to forget he's a former #1. He's 25 and played 100 games.

I wouldn't trade Howe for a 2nd round pick (weak draft predicted). 1st round yes or a decent player like Redden. He plays his best footy across half back. With Cross gone who's taking intercepts?

Same above with Toumpas, not sure he's been given enough continuity yet. Unless its part of a sweetener for a supposed A grader which I doubt.

Eagles didn't move in trades last year and look at them albeit with much better talent than us.

  8. Unfortunately Grimes will be 27 next year with his best years behind him. He is a great one on one defender but his decision making and execution in the modern game won't cut it in finals footy. That's what we are striving for. Trade him. No more carrying nice blokes, Watts included. I hope he can get a trade to another club as he probably has a few years left and with limited game time next year his free agency appeal may not be very strong.
