  1. I asked Josh Mahoney where he was and he just said paraphrasing "back injury, pointless him training on"......I confirmed it with Dave Misson who said it was a shame, can't see us going with him for a rookie spot, but stranger things have happened......we have had quite a few with a body that just won't stay together. I asked him at the first training this year how he was feeling, he was just hoping his body would hold together, totally understood why club had delisted him, of course wasn't happy....but was more than willing to give it a shot to earn a rookie spot
  2. Yes I agree, that is why we have 46 on a list and not 23 or 24, Hunt could be anything and the others are good solid professionals On Evans, he has been juggling doing a double degree at Melbourne Uni whilst playing footy, so probably looked at the situation and decided to concentrate on that instead
  3. That sight unseen is it? They are told to take it easy in the first week, fitness staff want to get a handle on them, including filming them which was what was happening yesterday This is the group who didn't do the hill running, Hogan, Hunt, Riley, Garland, Garlett, Lumumba, Newton, Gawn, Vince, Terlich..JKH, and Tommy Mac who seemed to have a slight issue yesterday, .see the theme? Added another bit, the reason Frost was on hill run, started a week earlier so all the checks etc have been done, his first week was exactly the same, I know coz was there
  4. I asked previously, so to allay any fears with George's rather inane comments about Newton and Garland Garland is on a program, still working the conditioning back after a series of ankle issues Riley the same after his broken leg They make it slow and steady, so no string of soft tissue injuries Garlett, Newton and Lumumba are new to the club, the fitness staff need to gauge, measure etc for week or two to get their programs in place JKH is bigger, he is being frustrated by a bit of a leg issue What is it with the toilet?...go before you go, there is one down on the corner of the original oval the team used to train on
  5. Viney is genetic, you have to remember the size of his Dad, they are strictly controlling what he does though, apart from the size, he did heaps of work over the break on his running, as I said looks like he is primed for a big year. As for Watts, during the session he is doing laps with Andew Nicol, who for his size is a running machine, Watts' is looking really good at the sessions progress, Nichol had him hunched over once today, thought he was going to produce breakfast, but took a quick break and did another gut buster.....obviously Roos has laid down he needs to build his tank
  6. You disappoint me, you know I name myself after films, read the synopsis you will see why http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1560985/
  7. Yes, Viney looks like he is going to explode every drill he does, and he flew up Anderson's Hill, Grimes looks really fit, hope you can see both in pics, I posted, Toumpas was running with Nate Jones and burnt him off again Edit because what I originally typed was influenced by the rather nice young lady at the tram stop outside the café I am sitting in
  8. Another good day at training News: Tapscott has a back injury so it looks like game over for him HL had a bit of work done during the session, I asked him as he left the session early, just his body getting back into it Big Maxy did a bit of ruck work, marking and kicking, so he is on his way back again Pics will be up on my Twitter Demonpk Simon Goodwin took a session of stoppage work with a group, nice bit of Jeff Garlett and JKH having a bit of a tussle, smiles all around Squad split at the end of session and a group went to pound up Anderson's Hill, went to watch and take pics, the players that surprised me Viney, Grimes and Toumpas,
  9. Steady now I can hear your zither frame vibrating with excitement from here, you have to remember the less 'mature' on here think some of the more 'mature' posters have always been that age, I didn't get here till late 70's sadly, so missed out on Zig and Zag, wonder what the PC brigade would think of their 'act' now
  10. Believe Tapscott has at least 2 other clubs interested in him, he knew the reasons he was delisted, he is one of many players from many clubs who just couldn't get a consistent run at it for one reason of another, mainly injury, Nev Jetta is a perfect example of what can happen if that turns around
  11. Yes I reported it couple of years ago, just reiterating, the days of training then a beer and a pie are long gone
  12. I don't care what we try as long as it is legal, just watching training now, there is an added professionalism to everything, you have players checking constantly with the fitness staff as to the loads they are doing, and if you can't do a drill, eg Tyson and the boxing there is an alternative planned and ready to go, just another observation, Jade Rawlings seems to be really up, asked him about both HL and Sam Frost, really likes HL attitude to training and Sam Frost's athleticism
  13. I am sure the players each have individual diets assigned to them, everything else is tailored these days, I reckon Grimes will be on a variation, as I stated above Crossy can't bring himself to have a sausage or bacon with his egg, he was horrified when I mentioned it
  14. Yes I agree, the GPS staff is now 3 as well, one of them acknowledged that Roos loves his GPS numbers
  15. Definitely not Jack Grimes anyway, I asked Nate Jones who said it was ok and laughing said to make sure I asked Jack Grimes
  16. Just to show how professional it is now was speaking to a Demonland reader who said I should repeat these bits Each morning the players text how they are feeling, ie sore, sick, injured, fine, etc etc, at the end of a training session they are asked to rate how they found it, on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being easy, most today rated it an 8 There is also a camera situated at the freeway end of the ground, the operator has a joystick to operate it, he has a script of what the coaches want him to film, there was also a second guy with a hand held today, being instructed by Roos what to film
  17. We seem to be leaning more towards the no carbs end, I was told there are variations
  18. Yes that name was mentioned, I was asked to ask about it, most of the players said it took a bit of getting used to, but as I said I could only find the two usual suspects who didn't "like" it, most were surprised about the no carbs, just an aside, there is a certain team in Adelaide who took this up last year
  19. No Tapscott has disappeared? I asked and got nothing, only other absentees were James Harmes and Spencer
  20. Was there again, pics will be up on my Twitter Demonpk soon, including Jack Viney's guns for all the admirers. Billy Stretch is starting to feel it three days in, still excited but 'exhausted', did slightly less today. Different positions, maybe, Simon Goodwin picks difference groups to practice stoppage work with, mainly the younger guys, noticed Dean Kent included in these inn the last couple of weeks, he is a good size, so the more you can rotate through there the better. Jack Watts was put through a gruelling running session again, he is coming off exhausted. Spoke to Jimmy Toumpas, he agrees he has been told more than once he is too hard on himself, needs to learn to relax and just enjoy playing footy again, feeling really good, another full session done. Spoke to Jayden Hunt, one of the forgotten, they are taking a cautious approach with him, lost a bit of conditioning last year with his back injury, should be right in a couple of weeks, has not lost any of his speed, Terlich is two weeks away from full training. Asked quite a few players about the new diet, no carbs and good fats, they can actually have a fry up for breakfast, surprisingly NOT, Jack Grimes and Daniel Cross don 't like it, Crossy says he has a couple of eggs but can't bring himself to eat sausage or bacon, hilarious, assume Grimes is still on his banana diet. Nev Jetta is a dad again, now has a son to go with his daughter, really happy. Jeff Garlett has got a beautiful relaxed running style (mentioned above) doesn't seem to be making an effort but cruises around.
  21. A few answers. Why waste money on advertising at a training ground, cameras only there now and again, it is also a public use oval as well, always has been Toilet situation is still the same, so go before you go Other posters have already partially answered about Toump, his hardest maker is himself, he was really flat at times last year as every time he was up and going something else happened to hamper his progress, he felt he was letting everybody down (I asked) he went away this year did a lot of work over the preseason, returned injury free and is doing everything asked of him now, you can see the difference in his demeanour Tyson has been using one of the harness thingys with a trainer or another player hanging on whilst he tries to run
  22. Was there again, will be posting pics on my Twitter Demonpk, including Garlo photo bombing my picture of Jeff Garlett. Quick rundown warmup, run, kick, box, run, handball, grapple, kick, run, handball, box, run, kick, run. Asked Dom Tyson about the work he seems to be doing with the harness, his finger injury stops him from joining in the boxing drills, so is working on his explosive speed away from stoppages when the others are boxing. The whole group bar Nev Jetta was out today, Nev is about to become a father for the second time, got a phone call at the club this morning ... interestingly Tapscott was a no show again. Rehab group as such, Gawn, Spencer, Terlich and Vince, joined by Bail and JKH (who has his knee strapped). Toumpas put Nathan Jones to the sword when they were running (sprinting) in one of the drills, spoke to him afterwards, is in a really good place finally. The new boys were all there, HL, Garlett, Newton (who is slightly bigger than Michie, so quite a size for a midfielder) and Billy Stretch, his Mum and Dad (who I believe played a bit) were there as well. Another gruelling session that went for over 3 hours, Shannon Byrnes is his new role as coach was in attendance as well.
  23. Gee opened the can of worms with the chatting to players, they are human beings as well and some actually enjoy the interaction with supporters, Howie, Watts, Terlich, Salem, Vince.....others not so much, but all the players are willing to chat at the end of the session, so that is when I chat to them, there have been observers who have tried to interact during, the players usually gently remind them they are working I have been trying to gauge through talking to them whether what the posters who are at training are observing, ie whether it has gone up a notch or two again, is true and yes it has, for instance Nev Jetta knows when his 3k time trial is scheduled and he is already working on what time he wants to do As for the question on Salem and Toump, both worked solidly during the off season and came back ready to go, Toump has had a bit of gastro but is travelling fine now, they know they have a challenge ahead to get into the opening 22 but are up for it
  24. I told Howie. 750K a season was being quoted, he was shocked, all players only have one go at this, as long as a player gives his all for the team during the season I don't care if they get an offer they can't refuse and take it, it's not like any of us have never changed jobs for a better deal
  25. My Twitter is Demonpk Jack Watts spent about an hour at the Tam, came back absolutely drenched in sweat, so for somebody training on his own, didn't bludge
