  1. Woah. I've never seen this footage but I do remember him being a shocker in front of the cameras. If he's the successor it's going to make for some interesting weekly pressers and coach's office segments on DeeTV.
  2. They don't look too bad but I really don't see the point.
  3. I didn't say we should drop him, just that I'm not sold on him yet. He's been there for five years and aside from the match versus Carlton has frustrated me through every single one of his appearances. Like I said there is no one to come in and replace him right now but if we ever had a full list he would not be in my best 22.
  4. Was VERY impressed by Kent's game, thought he was one of the only shining lights in the first quarter! My problem at the moment is that, unless Toumpas or Trengove find some speed or Blease finds a tank, no-one can come in for Bail, that's what I meant by "I just have to suck it in until we see some depth in this shallow list of ours." Though if I have to give a name to satisfy your answer I'll say Hogan, just because I can't wait to see him play!
  5. I am prepared to cop some hate for this post, but I would have dropped Terlich regardless of his hammy. I know the bloke tries but from what I see he is the clumsiest disposal in the team. Until he starts hitting targets I will continue to see him as one of those blunders Mark Neeld made to try and even out the average age of the team (Magner, Rodan, Byrnes, etc). I would straight up swap him for Garland next week. We saw this week with Dawes what limited match fitness but on-field leadership does to a side (read: our side). Clisby if Garland is unavailable. And I know that some Demonlanders are saying he played his breakout game against the Blues, but I still have no time for Rohan Bail. Unfortunately for me I know I just have to suck it in until we see some depth in this shallow list of ours.
  6. During Saturday night's Gold Coast V Hawthorn game, Brian Taylor referred to Gary Ablett as "The Lingy Sipping Latte Man" It was a dry and completely unfunny reference to some flack they'd been giving Cameron Ling for catching up with Ablett for a coffee during the week. My television was promptly muted. Wish I'd found that button sooner.
  7. Haha heard that one! He sounded like an absolute i***t. Rookie journo I suspect which is why Malthouse let him off so lightly. Edit: Didn't realise the 'i' word was worthy of censorship.
  8. Did anyone else laugh out loud at Viney giving Warnock a smartarse smack on the bum after his report on Spencer? I love that kid.
  9. I don't think there's an AFL supporter who could forget the line in the sand match between the Hawks and the Bombers in 04. I remember Dermie being asked about it on Open Mike - he said Essendon had been walking all over Hawthorn for the better part of a few years and that day they collectively decided that enough was enough. After reading Nath Jones' thoughts on the "bruise-free" remarks made by Carlton players a few years ago, for some reason I recalled the line in the sand fights. I'm a pacifist at the best of times, but I know most of us love watching an all in scuffle on the field. Wouldn't it be great if our boys decided enough was enough this week? Who better is there to prove a point to? We can cop the fines and suspensions. We've been playing undermanned for years so what difference would another few weeks make? Hawthorn went on to build a pretty damn good team from there and won a flag four years later. I just want to see some passion! http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-04-10/demon-bruises-still-hurt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLiR4faNtAI
  10. We wouldn't have been able to trade for Vince without Sylvia's FA compo though! I honestly hate free agency. Blokes were already nominating their preferred destination during the trade period anyway and in recent memory only a couple have been unsuccessful (Ryan O'Keeffe tried to get to the Hawks for example). It's effectively the same system only the team losing the player has next to no bargaining power.
  11. Peter Jackson is also Essendon let's not forget. Maybe he's using that same persuasiveness that landed Roosy on Bomber? Do PJ and Bomber have ties? I'd imagine they would have crossed paths in Jackson's early days as CEO/Thompson's last playing days.
  12. Kudos to you, WYL. Wish I could have had the same opportunity! How did he handle the criticism?
  13. 6 N Jones 5 Tyson 4 Cross 3 Dunn 2 Toumpas 1 Kennedy-Harris
  14. PS In regards to the banner, I personally wouldn't mind seeing some faces from the Team of the Century (keep in mind I'm a newcomer so forgive me if it's been done before). Ron Barassi, Jim Stynes, Norm Smith, Robbie Flower to name a few. There are some absolute legends in that team.
  15. For now, yes. But I would love to have this chat again this time next year!
  16. If it's arguing against one Nate Jones then it will lose, hands down, every single time. I've never rated Dunn but funnily enough I do agree that he is in our top 8 most consistent performers (unfortunately I just see that as a representation of where our list is at). I also don't think he's banner-worthy just yet. Maybe it's that mo etched in my memory from the past few years (I still picture him with it) but he's just never been a marketable player in my opinion.
  17. I thought that Bennell and even Gysberts and Petterd could have played a role under the right coach with the right players around them. From memory Bennell came from a cricket background so he was a few years behind the pack anyway. Petterd was capable of kicking a few goals on his day (though I never forgave him for dropping a sitter against the Pies once and pretty much costing us the match) and Gysberts was a ball magnet when his confidence was up (see: his first three games). I have a mate who played with Gys for Vic Metro and from what I hear he was just one of the many that simply saw Neeld for who he really was and therefore just could not buy into his "mantra". I honestly don't know what happened to him at North. Maybe playing under Neeld actually robbed him of his passion? The playing group at that time had just lost a coach who they, from all accounts, absolutely loved and loved playing under. So to go from Dean Bailey's fatherly, nurturing style of coaching to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlDVXl7-kyQ, would have probably got on my nerves too.
  18. Machsy I do remember reading that he's a Hawthorn supporter last year, but are you talking about this Hawks tattoo across his chest? That one that's been written in Sharpie? Or does he have a real one that's better hidden from Google images?
  19. My thoughts exactly! The silver abomination was worn in 08, Bailey's first year in charge and the current clash strip was introduced at the beginning of Neeld's reign of terror.
  20. I'm going off old speculation but I remember hearing about the Carlton players not buying into his style last year. It's true that the players under him at the Pies loved him (see: Dale Thomas) but these days I just feel like the guy only knows how to make enemies.
  21. I think Voss prefers the media. He knocked back a few assistant gigs at the end of last year and is now committed to some awful sounding reality TV show for 12 months. I don't think he'll coach again. Funnily enough, it seems Malthouse also has this problem.
  22. Probably has the best credentials of anyone else who's name is in the ring. I think I would be more comfortable with him than Rawlings.
  23. Only if he comes for free. Definitely not worth giving anything up for him.
