To be fair, they were impressive in juniors, and he was right about them being more x-factor picks rather than safer meat & potatoes players.
Not a great draft altogether imo.

Hell, Sydey's Kinnear Beatson has been lauded as a recruiter for years, but still picked Veszpremi.
He didn't lack talent, just the work ethic to make it work. Likewise Maric.
Both had faults, but also enough talent to be recycled by other clubs.

Drafting is largely a game of chance.

A draft with arguably the games best mid, small forward and key defender at the moment probably is a decent one.

I concur with these sentiments. I'd much rather Veszpremi and Marric at 14 and 21, as they have an X factor, than Dangerfield and Taylor.

I'd also prefer to take a low risk, guaranteed return player at pick 4, hence i'd take Palmer or Masten over Morton, and leave the X factor selections to picks 14 and 21.

Could this comment have gone any more wrong....

  3. i know. But Parish has been elite in the TAC cup for two years now. Oliver, has popped up mid year.

To be honest i'd be happy with either, just would kill me if we missed on Parish and he ends up being AFL elite.

That being said, my mate from the falcons reckons that Matheson is the smoky of the draft and could slip late. Said he is a weapon and Fyfe like. When he played as 23rd man in the VFL he was only allowed to play half a game (their ruling) and had 17 disposals and 11 centre clearances playing as a 17 year old in the guts. BEAST.

I was at the game he played Geelong vfl against box hill, was just about Geelong's best in a poor performance. Surprised he has slipped out of so many top 10s.

  4. For those that are unsure about Walker, have a look at his efforts in the final against Freo at Skilled Stadium a couple of years ago.

That game alone showed he aint AFL quality.

Late call up in his first final at the age of 20 who was a chf being forced to play on sandilands. Hardly a good example, late 2nd or a 3rd and a swap of late picks would be fair. 2nd only to Blicavs in all Geelong's time trials, great mark, competitor, probably not a natural footballer or a great kick, but will offer more than Dawes.

  5. I think they shot themselves in the foot, you cant not play a bloke in finals, essentially declaring he's not in your best 22. Then jump up and down when you get a lower form of compensation. Some suggest he wasn't played in finals because they knew he was leaving, even if this is the case its still their own fault. I also believe the contract offered to Selwood was of a high enough dollar figure for the eagles to think it would trigger band 2 compo (end of round 1), and probably would have been if we hadnt have gotten away with daylight robbery for frawley last season. Game has changed.

  6. Parish or Curnow.

Parish is more or less what our midfield needs to top it off, Curnow can help Hogan up forward and has midfield potential (likely won't ever be as rounded a mid as Parish).

Aside from injury, high chance curnow could have been talked about as a top 3 pick anyway. Also can play mulitple roles, parish is a pure mid. Versatility is important. As for a 1st year forward coming in and having an impact with hogan, seems unlikely.

  7. It's completely viable that while Connors is talking to Melbourne, that the club in inquiring about Dangerfield.

He would be absolutely crazy to accept less money to play in Geelong for a number of reasons. List quality and the fact the "go home" factor is irrelevant as you're only 1.5 hours at most away from Melbourne.

I'd be disappointed if the club isn't pushing hard. Don't you think his manager would *want* Dangerfield to take more money? Of course he does...the club would be silly not to keep pushing.

Him being at the club doesn't confirm anything other than the fact Melbourne is inquiring about players his managers. Dangerfield is part of that group.

tl;dr Dangerfield to sign with Melbourne, 12 years, 12 million.

Factor in how much costa will be paying extended family members. will go to geelong, adelaide wont match. bookmark it.

  8. hot tip for all SC players. Strongly consider crouch if you dont have him, only query on the kid was that he might get the vest... if hes named in the starting 22 this thursday.. you will have time to swap from a player like aish or ellis and save yourself some sweet sweet cash.
