But hang on. I didn't say LJ was necessarily a generational talent. Dazzle said he wasn't better than any of the draft crop this year. Who. Have. Never. Played. A. Game. Of. AFL. Football.
Luke Jackson was instrumental in the greatest burst of AFL football perhaps ever witnessed.
I suggest you re-watch it, and tell us which plays Jackson was instrumental in.
He was involved in some, but it was primarily due to our mids winning contested possession, and the Dogs players fumbling or falling over at inopportune times.
And even if he was largely instrumental, 15 minutes isn't a good measurement of a players quality. Zaine Cordy had an impactful 2016 GF, and hasn't amounted to much.

Cordy signed with Saints, could open the door for Thommo?
I actually think it closes the door on Thommo. Doubt that the Dogs will pursue him, and can't see too much interest from other clubs.
Either way, Tomlinson would be a salary dump by us, and we'd need to pay part of his salary and not expect anything in return.

Nevertheless I wouldn’t take a job without the opportunity to meet the boss. Especially if I was pretty lukewarm about the idea to begin with, which I’m guessing Harmes was (and it is just a guess).
Brad Scott has come out and said that the club intended on going through the draft rather than trading in experienced players.
I wouldn't be surprised if the meeting with Harmes was teed up by Mahoney and Dodo, but Brad Scott has overruled them.

Grundy for pick 27 would be a steal.
Much better then the original discussion of having to give up a 1st rounder which I was highly against.
Wonder if we'll package up a future 2nd also?
Agree. You had people saying that we should give up a pick in the teens because that's what Grundy is worth.

The bundling of 13 with North's F2nd ( say approx 21 ) will go a long way to getting us the first pick we want.
Then Freo's F1st plus the Lobb pick and or the Acres pick, will do the same for the second pick we want.
Or just give us all of those picks, plus the North F3rd and we will do the deals.
We could easily end up with 2 picks inside 10.
Then ask them to throw in Treacy and they have LJ.
So we would get initially 13, North F2nd and F3rd, Freo F1st, Lobb pick and Acres pick F50 something.
See how easy it is.
Did you pinch this from a Trade Radio caller?

I'm sure if Harmes chose to leave to get the most of himself and play midfield, his teammates would support him and it wouldn't damage our culture. We are clearly not pushing him out based on what Lamb said
Players are more understanding than supporters. They'll still remain friends outside of football. And as you say, it would be different if he was pushed.

Harmes' Finishes in the Bluey
- 16th in 2022
- 19th in 2021
- not in top 20 2020
- 4th in 2019
- 3rd in 2018
- 17th in 2017
- 19th in 2016
Interesting to see how the club rates him and certainly the last 3 years he has underwhelmed (for whatever reason)
When we look to the club to improve the list they have to make decisions around players like this. As much as most of us like Harmes he has points of frustration with his game. His best is clearly very good. But too often we see average performances.
No we don't know what roles the coaches have him playing but the finishes in the Bluey are pretty telling for mine.
And when all is said and done I follow the club first and the players second,
We want success and so log as Harmes has been dealt with fairly and with respect then they must do what they have to do to improve the side.
Petty finished 15th in the Bluey, so Harmes is in good company. I'd say it's all about Harmes' contract and freeing up cap space.
Harmes is replaceable, but if it's to come internally, I'm not sure who's an upgrade on Harmes.

2018 he wasn't a FT (mostly) mid fielder from memory. More a HF/mid who played occasional games mostly in the middle like the match in Alice where he did excel (surprise change up).
Angus appeared to be covering the Salem role prior to Salem's return and finding of form with JJ trying to cover the Gus role of 2021 IMV, maybe slightly more defensive. JJ vg in that more defensive role off the wing but anytime he drifted forward (which wasn't that often) he looked like a duck out of water. Gus drifting forward at least has some idea and can sometimes mark/hit the scoreboard and deliver the ball into more dangerous spots IMV. Watching JJ (delivery) coming inside 50 was terrifying in comparison.
Gus doesn't hit the scoreboard. Has only kicked 5 goals in 49 games over the past 2 years, admittedly some as a defender this year. Jordon kicked 7 this year.
I think Jordon's disposal and overall game was very good this year until he started playing with injury. He's maligned unfairly.

Apologies if this has already been brought up but, Tarryn Thomas potentially exploring options according to Sam Edmund.
Anyone have any insight on him? Pick 8 and only 22 years old still so fits well in our age bracket, have no idea what you’d give up for someone in his position given he’s had a bit of a turbulent year
TT was clearly out of sorts at North this year. The form he showed in the 2nd half of 2021 was outstanding. He's a perfect fit for us.
If Harmes has been told that he can look elsewhere, I hope that means that we have TT in our sights.

The ball moves faster than the players. I'd rather the ball in a slower player's hands with quick vision and decision making than those of Baker any day
But I too hoped TB would stay
Pace is still an asset when it comes to defensive pressure and transitioning. But I'm not fazed by TB's departure, and expect Baker to be delisted. Would be nice to have some ready made replacements who have leg speed.
Farewell Brodie Grundy
in Melbourne Demons
New coach that doesn't rate him, and took them from a bottom 4 to a top 4 team. McRae knows what he's doing.
