Who was the guy who always had a "foreign object" in his hand?

Waldo Von Eric used to wear a protective glove on his right hand. Whenever he used his right hand to deliver a blow it always nearly ended the match.

It was always assumed he had a foreign object stuffed down there but never proven.

I had a pair of giant posters on my bedroom wall, possibly released in association with Mobil.

One was of Hassa and the other Tassie.

I can also recall saving up my pocket money to buy a 7" single record from the local Mobil servo that featured the Melbourne theme song on one side and an interview with Hassa on the other.  Wish I still had it!

I had that as well. I'm pretty sure Tony Charlton was the interviewer.

Irrelevant. If Mac was our first pick we would  have made the points somehow even if we wanted JVR. You have to look at it that we would like both not just be satisfied with one star.

Clubs are doing their homework if they want the best.

That works, if JVR was to slide to the 5th round.

Edit, I see Old55 explained this.

Exactly my point.  I did know that, my post was aiming for the facetious.  Them bleating about how unfair the advantage Victorian clubs get over interstate clubs is ridiculous when they can't see past their own noses.  That's why I'm still incredibly angry about the whole Mac Andrew farce.

If we matched the Gold Coast bid on Andrew, that would have likely came at pick 5, we would have had nothing left to pay for JVR.

I don't think we got hurt with that rule change, unless you think Mac Andrew has way more upside than JVR.

We would get the home game against Freo and the away game against Hawks.
Freo's home game would be against the Hawks.
The highest rank team always gets its home game against the second highest rank team in the pool. I think that's fairest.
(Although having the highest rank team choosing is an intriguing idea)

Yeah Im thinking if it was the other way around, Hawthorn 4th and Dockers 9th our games would be in Perth and Melbourne and both Hawthorn games would be in Melbourne.

BCFS (cool idea for a name @Demonstone) pros:

    • has 12 games versus the current 9 games and the proposed wildcard version which has 11 games.
    • If your team makes the finals you get to see them at home
    • while the system still advantages the teams that finish higher on the ladder (through pool seedings, and 2nd chance & home teams for Prelims) it provides a more realistic opportunity for any team in the Top9. This is important particularly with an uneven H&A draw.

Wildcard proposal is a pile of crop IMHO and having more teams in the finals then not in the finals,  sucks big time.

So if the Dees finish 3rd and are in the same pool as Fremantle, (who finished 4th) and Hawthorn do we get the option of selecting our home game and our away game?

  7. This cannot be compared to the wild card system the NFL apply.

To earn a wild card entry teams need to have strong win/loss ratio over the season and miss the play offs because they were part of a highly competitive Division.

This is just expanding the finals series and rewarding a team that finishes in the bottom half of the ladder with an opportunity to play finals.

8/18 is plenty. 10/18 does not make sense I think.

He's been quoted as using this same philosophy at the Swans when he had the likes of Goodes, Hall, Kirk, Micky O etc.

I'm also a big believer in this. Every player has a price and a trade capital. I think a genuine fresh start could actually benefit him similar to how Jesse Hogan is reaping those benefits.

It won't happen though, no one will touch his contract.

I cant think of an A grader he traded out during his time at Sydney, except for Barry Hall which was a Kirk led revolt regarding his on field behaviour.

    Happy to be corrected.

As Paul Roos once said, "Every player is tradable"

If the right player and offer was there for us then I have no doubt the club would look at it.

No one is going to take the lengthy contract hovering above his head but.

    He said that in 2014.

There was no Oliver, Petracca, Gawn, May, Lever or Kozzie going around then.

So, extending the "New Hope" theme I can imagine the following:

    Obi-Wan Kenobi - Peter Jackson

    Luke Skywalker - Paul Roos

Chewbacca - Max Gawn (but only if he had his beard by then?)

Darth Vader - I'm loath to say Mark Neeld as I think he was on our side, even if he wasn't a success.

    Han Solo????

    Who else???

    Who else?

I know Star Wars is the movie you are referring to but I have never seen it.

I think you will need to find someone to play the key protagonist in the Paul Roos signing.

    Someone to play Kevin Dyson.

My memory is that Walls hit the post from an easy set shot, giving a draw and Footscray held their spot and we missed out.

Was sure it was a touched ball. Happy to be corrected.

Cept for '76, when, under Skilton, we missed out on the finals by a Robert Walls after the siren goal against Geelong...

My memory here is a Robert Walls goal would have opened up 5th spot for the Dees, instead it was touched on the line by Bernie Quinlan resulting in a drawn game giving Footscray the 2 pts that kept them in 5th spot.

    Fan changed to fun

My Mum took me to the football Round 1 1965. She was a passionate Dees fan and I had no option but to be a Dees fan. Instantly fell in love growing up with, at various times, 29, 26, 24 and 19 on my back. In 69 when Greg Wells came along it was 11.

My son as well had no option other than to be a Dees fan. He has been a member since birth.

Over the journey there were times when he asked me why have you done this to me. He was up against it being the only Dees fan as a Grammar school in the North/Western suburbs. But he simply loved them and remained loyal.

As another poster pointed out 25/9/2021 has wiped away all the misery. It certainly has.

We sit together in the tridents and travel interstate together for games which is great fun. The MFC is a real part of the bond we have. We even went and got premiership tattoos. (My only tattoo).

I say to people the 21 premiership changed my life forever. Most cannot understand my sentiment.

It's probably a bit too late to ask further questions I assume?

I would just like to know what his junior footy was like growing up in Glenroy and playing for the Calder Cannons in the Under 18s TAC Cup (as it used to be called)? He was a pretty talented junior player who won the "best on ground" on the TAC Cup Grand Final actually.

Who did Jake Melksham barrack for as a kid growing up? I think it may have been Essendon.

Anyway, looking forward to listening to the interview! 🙂

Back in the 70s I used to go to every game and sit or stand in the cheer squad. Screamed my guts out and lost my voice every week. You would just roll up and join in the fun.

Now I’m old and I have seats in the Legends near the MCC with the upper class.

My teenage boys look enviously at the colour and noise coming from the cheer squad and beg me to sit there.

So at our last home game I made my way down, but all the seats were reserved and we had to sneak some seats about 20 rows behind (which was actually still a lot of fun)

So anyway, my question is… Is there some way to sit in the cheer squad these days if you don’t have a reserved cheer squad seat ?

My son and I are trident members and we sit in the Southern stand. We are also Demon Army members.

    1. Its a worthwhile donation, they play an important role on game day.

    2. It enhances the interstate experience. There is usually a pre game and you get to sit with like minded fans during the game.

Its very good value for money spent.
