  1. THE YOUNGER BROTHER In his third season at the club, the tall defender's career began to take some serious steps in the right direction. He has the mobility needed for the role but has to work on building up his strength and working on his decision making. 3. I knew making all Demonland memberships microwave safe during the Neeld era would pay off one day.
  4. Not a trick and this is probably not the venue to ask that question which is why I will also pose the question on the Demonland Facebook page.
  5. Our even ones are better. Or were the odd ones better. I can't remember.
  6. The end of the football season is the time of year when we thank all those who have contributed to Demonland during the past season as well as all those who post here or simply visit and read without posting. We value your contributions and ongoing support - especially to Nasher who keeps us going on the technical side, to our moderators whose task is often thankless. Their job is never easy. Special thanks to our regular contributors, Whispering Jack, George on The Outer, The Oracle, JVM, KC from Casey, Grapeviney (my podcast co-host) and all others who have provided us with material and articles. Let's hope that 2018 will finally be the year that we break through and experience a taste of finals football. We also look forward to the second year of women's competition and hope a finals appearance there will be a prelude for later in the year. As always, we are on the look out for new contributors who have something to say about the mighty Demons. If you have the talent or simply want something to say about the club in article form, please contact me via PM. Cheers, thanks again and keep your eye on the red and the blue. Andy
  7. There seems to be a lot of sentiment online that a "supporter" won't buy a membership if player X is let go? In this case player X is of course Jack Watts. The Melbourne Football Club posted a post on Facebook plugging the purchasing of your 2018 membership and the majority of comments center around people claiming that they won't purchase a membership if Jack Watts is traded. Do you subscribe to this? Would you not buy a membership based on a players retention, trade or delisting?
  8. SLOWDOWN SAM Weideman showed some promise when he broke into the Melbourne team late last year but suffered from "second year blues" in 2017 and late in the season was struggling for kicks with the Casey Demons. Some hard work in the off season is prescribed. 13. Melbourne football boss Josh Mahoney has covered a range of topics on SEN Radio this morning. On signing Lever: “We're really happy Jake has made this decision. About a month ago, we knew Jake was looking to return to Victoria but it was only on Monday that we got the phone call. He's only played about 50 games but we think he plays with a lot more maturity.” On getting the deal done: “We'd expect a first and future second round draft pick would be a reasonable offer for Jake.” On Jack Watts: “That's never been about money, it's about performance. He's very clear on our expectations about him. To hear Jack speak yesterday, he's a very passionate person but we want Jack to be the player he should be.”
  14. FORWARD SURPRISE Tom McDonald was something of a revelation when out of necessity was moved out of defence and into a back up ruck and forward role. Highlight was the match winning effort up forward against the Eagles. 17. MISSED OPPORTUNITY After an injury riddled 2016, the diminutive Kennedy-Harris had to work hard to break into the Melbourne team and, while he was an often prolific ball-winner at VFL level, he was unable to replicate that form when given a chance. He missed his biggest opportunity when he was at the peak of his form at Casey and incurred the wrath of the club for drinking after a game in contravention of a team rule. 19. Jackson tried out initially at Richmond but the rover was not wanted by the club due to his size. Despite this rejection, he had a successful career with Melbourne where he became a star rover/forward pocket and was a handy goal scorer topping the Dees goal-kicking in 1988 with 43 goals. Most notably he kicked five goals in Melbourne's Preliminary Final win over Carlton that year, although he went goal-less from the forward pocket in their Grand Final loss. A Victorian interstate representative, Jackson was picked up by Footscray in the 1991 AFL Draft but did not break into their seniors. He represented Australia in the 1990 International Rules series.
