Did anyone see footage last night on Footy Classified of DB in the coaches box? You may disagree with me but it looked like he had steam coming out of his ears. i think was not only disgusted as the coach of Melbourne but also as a supporter of football. He looked like every Melbourne Supporter present at the ground.

Well the question is "what is he going to do about it?" He has been the coach since September last year. He has been responsible for the pre season, he has had time to educate the players re the game plan. He also knew for months that he would be facing a Hawks side without 3 of their top dozen players (then Brown was to miss as well). So far after every pitiful loss (Sundays makes 5 in a row counting the pre season) all he's spoken about is how disappointing it's been and how we'll be working on it. I can't recall a more disgraceful performance from a Melbourne side in my time following the club. We have lost by similar margins in the past but at least we had the excuse of being seriously undermanned through injury etc. On Sunday Hawthorn's missing players were far more significant than ours (with the possible exception of Rivers balanced then by the injury to Croad). We never put in an effort like this under Daniher. He has overseen the selection of the most woeful leadership group in the competition - I can't imagine that Yze would get a game at any other team and Miller would be at very long odds as well. If it truly is a new era then why take a step back with the selection of this leadership group? If he wants to start a new era then dont fall for the trap of dropping Weetra and Morton this week - keep playing the young guys and put the games into them. I don't see a clear plan or vision atm and I think we need to get one quickly. Could anyone discern any sort of game plan on the weekend? All the talk about Bailey has been positive so far but I am yet to see what all the excitement is about. This club was crying out for an experienced head coach who could sell the place. Instead we have gone for an extroverted CEO. I would have gone the other way and put Stuart Fox in charge of the business and Sheedy in charge of rebuilding the club and team. If Bailey was that impressive at interview be bold and make him Sheedy's main assistant with the opportunity to move into a co-coaching role and then let him take over in a couple of years. All water under the bridge now I know and we need to just get on with it. It's hard after a performance like Sunday's though!

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
