Last night saw the introduction of the umpire video replay in AFL.

The ball went out of bounds, the boundary umpire calls for a throw in. The local supporters near the boundary tell the field umpire the decision is wrong, so he halts play to watch the replay on the big screen, then changes the decision to a free kick for out on the full.

I've never seen an umpire go to the replay before, and I didn't think it was legal. It also clearly shows the home ground umpiring advantage that WC had. This was only one of about 12 decisions that were influenced by the crowd.

Although the final decision was correct, seemed strange to me.

    Agreed - i liked how he "stalled" for thinking time, while sneekily bascially checking the video replay - gutless and pure-Subi decision!

    same thing happened with Wonna's goal

    - and this is after the disgrace of Goodes kicking a fair goal straight through the middle, called a point by goal umpire - but as there were only 40 Sydney fans there, no "review" forthcoming!!
