One of the lines I've heard trotted out by Dean Bailey (and no doubt one he sold to the MFC board in order to get a contract extension) is that we won more individual quarters in 2009 than in 2008.

That may be true but it is a bit of a furphy to point to this statistic as an indicator of improvement.

Once a team is 10 or more goals up like Hawthorn was by half time, they often drop away in intensity allowing bottom sides like Melbourne to win a few quarters in junk time.

The key indicator of how a team is faring is how they perform when the blowtoch is applied and in that respect we continue to fail dismally under Bailey.

Get a new coach before the rot sets permanently in.
