Benny and The Jetts

i was at a MFC function on sunday in the Jim Stynes Room. Chris Connolly got up and spoke(funny bastard by the way), he had jack grimes and jack watts with him who got up and spoke about some of the new crop of youngsters at the club. Jack Grimes impressed me, big fella, what a well spoken young man. he described jetta and bennell as being live wires on and off the field, with great ability and great personalities, they seem to have struck up a real friendship, hence Connolly said the boys have nicknamed them Benny and The Jetts (its a elton John song for all you young ones). Jack Watts is impressive too, it is clear that he cannot wait to get year 12 out of the way and get on the park. he is a big boy. they described how Jettas mum and dad drove the whole way from western australia in a Ute packed with all their belongings to live in melbourne, only for the valet park bloke to wreck the steering column on the car at Crown Casino, funny. its clear the club are expecting big things from Jetta. and he didn't do too bad on sunday.

Cameron Schwab was impressive too, i spoke to him for a while, he is Melbourne mad. its good that the deal with the MCC is finalised at last. he seems like the right man to steer the club in the right direction financially. lets hope he does.

it was a great day, cost $60, which goes to the club, which got beer and food and top class seats. it was good to talk to some of the backroom staff and players.

also, my Mrs won a prize in the raffle, a family pass to the museum of sport, just need some kids now!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
